We arrived in Kuala Lumpar or KL as the locals call it on the 11th December. First impressions on arriving in KL was that it was organised chaos for a change. The traffic moved in lanes and all seemed to be well mannered between drivers (i even think they may have had licenses there!) ALthough staying awake whilst driving was not high on the list of priorites of our driver from the airport - thank god the motorways have about twenty lanes each way as we seemed to veer in and out of them all! Our hostel was really great again and was bang in the middle of the 'Golden Triangle" of KL. Lots of hustle and bustle, clean and really central was the description and it was exactly that. We wandered into china town which ... read more

Hello People, sorry for my lack of blogging of late, i forget the last time i braced the super interweb, so much so that i've forgotten to type and certainly forgotten what on earth we've been up to in the recent past. I Believe the last entry i made was up in Pai before we braved the horrendous non a/c sleeper train back down to bangkok where i got super hot and amazing paranoid (justified) that without the power of a/c to protect me i was being eaten alive by all the mozzies about. Somehow we managed to survive although i'd say to anyone travelling to Thailand that paying the bit extra is an excellent idea. Anywho, back in Bangkok i managed to meet up with ex-boss Graham from RMP job in leeds (by the way ... read more

Hey Guy's and Girl's, I'm writing this out again as I just deleted the last lot like the muppet I am. Speaking of muppets did you hear about the English guy that did a swan dive in KL sentral (yes thats how you spell it around here) and won the gold with 9.75 - that was me!! Well where have I been, following my layup I managed to get out for something to eat yesterday. Have you ever been to a fair or show where there where loads of food and hot dog stands? Well the road next to me must have about 50 of them serving Malay, Chinese and Indian. I opt for what I think is a chinese and and order chilly chicken at least thats what I think it is!! If you where ... read more

Made it to the station in time for the train despite a small hangover. I've gone 2nd class but there is plenty of room and the train has air con. We arrive bang on time not bad for a 6.30hrs trip maybe the rail providers in the uk could learn something from them! Well it's singapore all over again, Do I get a taxi or do I get the monorail. Well I'm feeling brave (or stupid) again and head for the monorail. Just as I get there it starts to rain and boy do i mean rain. It's coming down in sheets of the stuff rather than drops. I get into central KL and it's a short work to my hostel. However on the way I slip and this time I do twist my ankle. It ... read more

My only stay in Malaysia was in KL. Already very near to Port Klang I wanted to investigate about traveling by container ship. Besides walking in China Town I spend a lot of my time with taking pictures of Petrona Towers, the well-known landmark of KL. You cannot go to the top floor but the visit to the so-called sky bridge is for free. This visit also includes a pretty technology-admiring introduction to the construction of the Petrona Towers. The whole building is basically a big showing-off of Malaysias biggest petrol company. Still the photo opportunities are quite fascinating. Since I could not find any shiping agancy willing to let me board one of their ships I finally left for Sumatra with the speed ferry from Port Klang.... read more

Russell - So here we are in KL, described as the city of the future. Not only is it the home of the world's tallest building, it also has a modern monorail, subway system and a total dedication to brands, Even the monorail stations are sponsored. As you come to the main stations in town the sponsoring brand is mentioned before the destination. "Now arriving at Coca-Cola, alight here for Bukit Bintang" Anyone who has read "Cloud Atlas" will recognise this view of the future. I have to admit to having a liking for KL simply for it's integrated culture, but I suspect that goes for Malaysia as a whole. There are three major cultures here, the majority Malay, Chinese and Indian. The best outcome of this is of course the food! Every street has a ... read more

Russell - Well we have arrived in Kuala Lumpur or KL as it commonly known. For those trivia buffs amongst you it means "Muddy Confluence" in English - go figure. Lindsay - confluence of the two rivers where it is based. Russell - OK. We arrived at the airport and cleared the usual paperwork quite easily then we had to get to centre of town. The guide book suggests using a taxi by buying a coupon from the airport. First we need some money. The first ATM I go to asks me a string of questions. Language, PIN, what type of account I have, what amount of money do I want etc etc. Finally I come to the last screen. "This machine has no money would you like another service?" Like what? I go the next ... read more

Sitting our luxurious VIP bus with seats like you'd get on a business class flight, we spot another westerner wearing a T-shirt saying To The Pub, we get into conversation at the Singapore/Malaysia Border......... HE’S AN ESSEX BOY!!!! Down the A12, Chelmsford boy - mind you quite posh! David was with us from that moment until we went our separate ways as we entered Thailand after a week in Malaysia. The bus from SNG to KL took 6hrs, so we arrive in KL just after 10pm. We got dropped off on the side of a main road by a building site, traffic jam in front of us, not really knowing where we were. A cab driver spots us and what he thinks will be an easy fare, we get charged 20SGD to be driven around the ... read more

Yesterday I left my friends in Ko Phi Phi and headed down to Kuala Lumpur. I got here at 5 in the morning and checked into a guesthouse in the centre of town. We had a couple of fabulous days up in Phi Phi. On the first day we Dan, James and I rented a kajak and went out snorkeling amongst trillions of fish. In the nights there was plenty of drinks, most memorable ones in Reggae bar, where they have a Muay Thai Boxing stage to showcase fights between Thai fighters as well as tourists. The other day we gathered a group of 20 people and rented a speed boat to go on a tour around the small islands around, including Bamboo and Ko Phi Phi Leh, where they filmed THE BEACH a couple of ... read more
