Hey people! So here I am, in the big city Kuala Lumpur! I arrived here really early this morning! The first plane I was on for oslo - vienna was a really tiny and shitty plane, it had two seats and TWO rows! Do I need to tell you guys that it was really little space there? But it got better when I got to vienna (after running everywhere,30 minutes late) to find the next entry! It was a huge plane, I sat next to three nice girls the whole trip (11 hours) and they were going to Sidney! I arrived Kuala Lumpur 6am and the first thing I noticed after getting lost in custom-baggage-people kaos: it was like breathing fire outside. I didn't even feel the smoke.. Got a taxi after much "taxiii?taaaxiiii?u want taxxxiii?" ... read more

So there I was... an East Coaster in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia... sitting at the airport after being in transit for almost 20 hours. I would have passed out had I just sat there, so I did what I told Trevor I would do, I journeyed to the Petronas Towers. Now, that comes across as nothing big, but in a city that size, with two huge carry-on bags, and 3 hours sleep - it was a challenge. FYI - most Malaysians speak English. First I took the KLI Ekspres (super fast train) through the country side... that place is wonderful, palm trees as far as the eyes can see, all kinds of exotic birds, and I even spotted some kind of water buffalo grazing across a stream. I can't be sure if that's what it was, we ... read more

Hi all - We'll I guess your wondering what I mean by twin peaks and shopping. Well we visited the twin towers (in otherwords "Petronas towers") yesterday and this morning we went to spend some cash at Chinatown...you'll find it easy to get to by the monorail. Thought I'd put together a few Q's & A's. Twins towers - free!! Just go pick up tickets in advance. Taxis - always bargin (otherwise go metered). We paid 7-8rm for travelling around city from one end to other. Good spot to eat - Hawkers food court behind Lot 10(a shopping mall). Two meals under 12rm (very tasty). BB Plaza - 6 levels of shopping heaven (for some). Everything - jewelry, dvd's, clothes, shoes and phones phones phones. Good bargins to be had .. always ask for "best price". ... read more

Last night (Jan 10) Dust and I wrote a really good travel blog but the computer said no. Then we tried to add pictures, but each computer we tried defeated us. However we are not ones who give up easily. President Richard Nixon once said, "Defeat doesn't finish a man--quit does. A man is not finished when he's defeated. He's finished when he quits. So we will see if we can overcome the computer, and give some what of a summary of the fun we have been having. So here it goes... The contrast between Melaka and Kuala Lumpur is night and day. Melaka is the definition of a chill town, the people are friendly, the weather is warm, and it has a historical feel about it. In Melaka we walked through grave yards that dated ... read more

Arrived in KL yesterday (very early after very minimal sleep) - met up with Rob and Tracey and decided we should go to Genting - like a large indoor and outdoor entertainment complex, with casino's, many rides outdoors and indoors, shopping, cable car etc you get the point. Thought we'd have a fun day enjoying the ride etc, and then we arrived at the top of the hill (after many frustrating attempts at getting a taxi driver!!!!! - that doesn't want to rip you off). While we'er on the subject note about taxis: get one that has a meter, or you will have to haggle for a decent price. City trip 10 rm (max absolute max), trip to Genting - 150rm, getting back 80rm. Back to Genting when we arrived at the top of the mountain ... read more

After New Year’s in Seoul, we flew to Singapore for one night before catching a bus to Kuala Lumpur (about 4 hours away). In KL we stayed with our friend from Michigan and the Bay Area, Mike. Lindsay’s friend, Megan, also met us in KL. She came up on a break from her assignment with the Peace Corps in East Timor. It also turned out that another friend of ours, Vishen, who we knew from AIESEC and college was in town along with his wife and a few of her friends from Estonia. While in KL, we went out for dinner and drinks in the evenings and went shopping during the day. We went to the KL Bird Park which had a variety of birds from Indonesia and Malaysia (including the Hornbill, I’d never seen anything ... read more

I decided to fly up to Kuala Lumpur on Christmas day as my parents were flying in from Australia. So after waking up with a hangover from Christmas Eve clubbing, I went to the Singapore Airlines office. They told me I should just go to the airport and go on standby for a flight to KL. It was no problem getting a ticket at the airport, and I got to KL in the early evening. I arrived without booking a hotel room, and being Christmas eve, every hotel I called was booked. So finally I got a place after trying for ages, and arrived there to be greeted with a very angry man telling me that there are no more rooms available. After a few words were exchanged, he agreed to give me the room. Lets ... read more

Well am here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 7.5 hours of flight from syd to sing and then 3 hours wait at a completely huge deserted airport - well it took an hour to walk to the terminal, through tunnels, carparks and lifts with the air shuttle out of hours. Then a short hours flight to KL whereupon i met a chap who had been on the same flight from oz, infact i hadnt really met him - more of sat in his seat. Turns out hes a lawyer on his way to see his family in KL and then to Bombay for Newyears. Got his card as a useful contact- incase i didnt meet up with group! Well arrived at KL and got rushed into a taxi - checked prices which seemed quite expensive, but apparently KL is over an ... read more

Hey guys! well am getting a little too much abuse for the lack of writing on the web logs so with wrists slapped i promise to try harder in the future, sorry mum. :) As always marcs comprehensive account has informed you of the last few days of relaxing on the beach but we are most certainly back to the big city now in KL. The room mates have taken a better turn, the almost naked and definately irrated man that 'greeted' us on our arrival to the room by demanding the door to be shut turns out to be a very willing to help deaf korean guy, lucky for him as he escapes our snoring! One of the main highlights of today was....i'll decribe it first.....amazing fantastic unsurpassable wonderful 20 minutes of pure joy......my first ... read more
