We played at being tourists on the sight seeing bus. Very different sights from Singapore. Fewer shopping malls than in Singapore. The locals seem to live and work alongside the newly build high rise office blocks of the commerce and banking world. The president lives in his large palace on the edge of the city and has guards on horseback and they change every 90 minutes, similar to London. China town and little India are small streets dedicated to small shops and street sellers. Hope the pictures show you the sights of the city better than i can explain. Now back to hotel for cocktails and nibbles, very relaxing.... read more

On our final day in Kuala Lumpur we had a walk around the local park. Noticed a lot of play equipment located in the park area for children but didn't see any children playing on it. Sat and watched the water fountains performing but only at night do the coloured lights enhance the dancing water perfectly. We noticed that more people shop in the evening (around 20:00 till 22:00) than during the day, it was like sales time in UK so many people in the shopping mall buying all sorts of items. Still 32 degrees and high humidity so we caught a lift back to the hotel on the local buggy. Cooled down with a cold drink on the 32nd floor of our hotel. We had our first rain fall last night but didn't last more ... read more

Arrived in Malaysia and taxied to Kuala Lumpur using four toll roads, 45 Minutes later we arrived at the Traders Hotel situated in the Aquaria and KL Convention Centre complex facing the Petronas Towers, awesome !!! Spent the afternoon having tea on the 32nd floor and then cocktails at 5.00pm, oh! and Fran got told off again for wearing her havaianas (Nete) not any old flip flops at cocktails. So she then comes back in with one shoe on and holding the other due to the swelling from mozzies, flying and her little trip. I don't know which looked worse, she cannot be posh if she tried !!! After 3 small glasses of red wine we visited the English equiverlant of the Ideal Home Exhibition in the Conference Centre. We nearly bought some land in Nova ... read more

Having spent 7 days in Maldives, turning regularly for an even sun tan the first night in Singapore was spent up to my knees in toothpaste and having bathed in bicarbonate of soda my legs are now sparkling white and nicely risen, but at least no itching from mossy bites.... read more

On our last day in Singapore we completed our final bus tour of the city. My head phones plugged in to listen to the commentary but kept switching to German, Japanese and other languages, not sure if the system was faulty or whether it was Fran sitting behind me !!! On several occasions we saw locals drinking a brown liquid from a see-through plastic (sandwich size) bag, the only place for it is hanging off a hospital bed and not for human consumption. Along the boat quay some of the restaurants were selling live fish and other items like crabs and clams. I'm sure they were thinking 'please don't pick me'. There was loud music on the corner of some buildings and this was an outdoor keep fit class with 400 to 500 people of all ... read more

Our second day in Singapore we decided to do some sight seeing. We bought a 2 day bus pass which entitled us to explore the city on 4 separate routes. We sat on the open top deck with out ear phones connected to the automated tourist information. We saw Chinatown decked out in their reds and yellows preparing for Chinese new year, (year of the goat). We went past little India which supports the migrant workers who flock to this sector I after work. There were some places of worship like temples and churches used by all faiths in Singapore. The marina and boat quay is home to a vast array of international restaurants so we headed for Harry's and had fish and chips plus Nachos, this was good food after a week of spicy al ... read more

21/1-15: Taking the airplane from BCN, with connection in Istanbul where I was reunited with the whole Thamm family, first time I got to see them in a long while. Then connecting flight to KL, 9 hours - but I managed to sleep the whole way. After that a long hot walk around KL to get to the guesthouse. In this city theres no sidewalks og roadsigns so it turned out to be quite a challenge finding the place. But we arrived at our guesthouse Travelhub which is located in China Town. At that time (10 pm) it was pretty much dead. When we went to find dinner after a quick shower the local market was closing down and we settled for a bit pricy street restaurant where the chicken had more bones than meat. After ... read more

Our journey from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur took a little under seven hours by train; a choice governed more by the fact that we were fed up with flying than perhaps practicality. Maybe alarm bells should have started ringing when we realised that all four tickets for the whole journey came to a grand total of £12. The carriage was ok if you kept your head down and ignored your surroundings. A highlight of the journey was a lovely musical interlude provided by an elderly Malaysian lady singing rather tunelessly to Abby and Freya for over an hour. Stuart then decided to join in Spike Milligan style, while I quietly died of embarrassment in the corner. We soon stopped drinking our bottles of water despite the heat to avoid having to use the toilets, however poor ... read more
