Saturday 23 January After a long night with the Chinese Funeral music going on into the early hours, we awoke bruised and limping, so our already limited options for trekking were now a complete no go. So, struggled up showered dressed and went out to see what the day would present. Light breakfast nearby the Hotel, decided to get a Taxi to Tanah Rata, which we had been told were frequent. Half an hour later, still waiting, a Taxi Driver we had talked to on Friday recognised us and although not working, stopped for us and took us to Tanah Rata. En route, he gave us information on the Trekking routes and local gossip as to the fate of Jim Thompson, the Silk King who mysteriously vanished here whilst trekking in the 1980's ? Geo: 3.12433, 101.684This morning Lisa, Rach and I went out for brunch. Lisa has a car and it was so nice not to be catching taxis all the time. She found us a great cafe to eat at. We were spending the day sightseeing. Our next stop was the Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park. We spent about half an hour here stalking the butterflies as we took photos of them. It seemed a similar size to a butterfly enclosure at a zoo. There were many colourful butterflies to see among the tropical plants and flowers. We then drove a short distance to the Kuala Lumpur Orchid Park. This seemed a bit run down in areas – but more importantly, it was free entry. Thursday 21 January The number 1 thing to do and see is the Twin Petronas Towers. Leo had an early night, suffering from man-flu (no comment ladies) and Paula, not being able to sleep, chose to research advance ticket purchase. Finding out that advance tickets can only be purchased a minimum of 24 hours beforehand, resigned herself to the fact that in order to procure two of only 20 allocated tickets per time-slot you really should queue from 6am on the day of an intended visit, ahead of the ticket counter opening time of 8.30am. Then turn up at your allotted tour time. Unfortunately, late to sleep meant late to rise, and only reaching our restaurant for breakfast at 8.45am meant we had already reconciled ourselves to the alternative, the KL Tower. Wednesday, continued. Having finally managed to post some blogs, we reluctantly left the Irish bar and ventured forwards to klcc, near towers, close to fabulous public park/lake , where die-hard joggers pound the rubberised track, lots of yoga/exercise classes taking place, but most bodies seemed to be losing the battle ? Visited large air-conned shopping/eating centre where we had two plates of Malaysian food, recommended by the lovely English speaking lady, who we discovered was married to a Mancunian chap. Great food, washed down with iced lemon tea. Cost £5. As we prepared to leave, a young South Korean family, two cute daughters, engaged us in conversation. At first we thought they wanted our table, as we had finished eating, but NO - they wanted to be photographed with US! This made our day complete, only ... read more

Geo: 3.12433, 101.684Kualar Lumpar pretty much marked the halfway point of our honeymoon, sadly! We were only visiting for three days before heading off to Sri Lanka.We based ourselves around China town, Jalang Petaling which is full of little market stalls and plenty of accommodation. I got myself a rather cheap haircut and the cheapness and lack of English resulted in a unsatisfactory haircut. Lucky hair grows back!We also visited Jalang Alor. During the evening the whole street is transformed into outdoor eateries. This is also a popular place to base oneself. There are also plenty of massage places, the massage district!
