Heute haben wir bei der Familie nebenan eine Bootstour mit Schnorcheln gebucht. Kurz nach 10 Uhr ist unser Boot startklar, zusammen mit einem italienischen und einem chinesischem Pärchen brettern wir mit lautstarkem Außenbordmotor Richtung Blue Lagoon. Das Wetter ist heute nicht so ideal, es ist recht wolkig und die Sonne kommt kaum durch. Den Temperaturen tut das natürlich keinen Abbruch, aber der Fahrtwind in Kombination mit unseren seit mehreren Tagen nicht mehr trocknenden Klamotten kühlen recht gut. Nach 20min rasanter Fahrt sind wir an der „blauen Lagune“ angekommen. Wirklich eindrucksvoll blaues Wasser, selbst bei nicht so idealem Licht. Weiter geht es zum „Turtle Point“, dem Strand vor dem Perhentian Island Resort. Hier wird das Wasser schnell tiefer und es gibt Seegrasflächen unter Wasser. Am Vormittag schwimmen wir mit Aaron bis zur Riffkante, ab dort wird das Wasser dann schnell tiefer und 10-15m sind nach einigen Metern erreicht. In der Tiefe wachsen große Hartkorallen und man kann im sie klaren Wasser recht gut sehen. Aaron hat ziemlichen Respekt vor der Tiefe, er braucht immer einen Tag, um sich an etwas zu gewöhnen. So ist das heute die Generalprobe für das Schnorcheln in den kommenden Tagen. Am frühen Nachmittag machen wir uns auf den Weg zum „Jungletrail“. Aller Inselverkehr erfolgt auf dem Wasser und es gibt weder Straßen noch Wege. Allein zwei Pfade durch den Inselurwald verbinden die größeren Strandabschnitte im Süden der Insel mit der Westküste. So the rainforest was fun, such as boating out on my own to the hotel to use their highspeed internet. We were planning on setting up an internet relay system, beaming a signal from a router hooked up to a hard line on the mainland, picked up by a satellite dish suspended from a tree at a half-way point, in turn hooked up to a repeater router with smaller solar panel to broadcast it around the island obstruction to our resort. Blazed trails on my own through the jungle, only to find out later that the strange purring sound I heard was not a bird, as I originally thought, but an Asian tiger, which grow to about 40-50% larger than African tigers and twice my weight. After realising that I was within a two hour trip from the Perhentian islands, I felt geographically obliged to stop there. The bus from Kota Bharu cost only 6 ringgit and dropped me right outside the port; from there a return boat journey was just 60 ringgit, bringing the total cost to around 13 pounds return. I climbed into a speed boat with no more than 10 other tourists, I expected the usual calm ride…but did not get it! The driver hurtled into action and was bouncing off of waves with no regard for the condition of his boat, nor passengers. We read that boats to Perhentian Islands had questionable safety level but when we actually got on one we had no idea what that was about. It was small, new and very fast speedboat and it looked very comfortable. We were lucky that the weather was fabulous and water almost flat with no waves. After 10 minutes we understood what that comment was about. Boatmen treat them as their personal racing vehicles and the boat took such a speed at one point that we were literally ‘flying’ over small waves created by other boats. Once again not my definition of fun but Tomek had a great time!!!
