Having met 2 HK friends Nick and Afsha at KL airport, we flew up north to the island of Langkawi for a nice relaxing Christmas! We stayed at the Berjaya resort, and spent a couple of days relaxing. One of the highlights was a walk up to the 7 wells waterfalls - a ten minute climb (and past a few monkeys) took us up to a lovely clear spot, with an outlook over the hills to the coast. The water ran down the rocks, which were so smooth that they were like slides. We went down the waterfalls like they were slides at a water park. It was great! There was a lot of nature around on the island, I saw 2 toucans, 2 different types of monkey including one with a baby, and a large ... read more

So enjoyed Thailand I went back to the place where I had the previous massage and before I even said what I wanted (neck, back & shoulder) the woman looked and me and said MAN - so that was it neither of us got a choice. It was fierce & dreamy! The last night in Ao Nang we walked around trying to work off the 4th indian dinner in a row, and bumped into the masseur - Jon was like - "THAT !!!!!! was the guy who was sitting on your arse massaging you?!" Yeah I guess I choose one of the larger guys! mmmmm The hotel staff were so sweet when we left - girlfriend (young, gay, braced top & bottom!) was cute and kissie - bug hugs all round. Aree Tara was fun - ... read more

After arriving in Langkawi and finding somewhere to stay (AB Motel - cold shower - not accustomed to these yet), we went looking for an alternative (with a warm shower) and found a resort called Langkapuri Beach Resort, with little bungalows on the beach, one of which we could have in a couple of days time (it was very busy in Langkawi due to the kids being off school - how inconvenient). After our wee mission we went and got some lunch on the beach and had a chat with a fella called Bingo, who tried to sell us a tour. That night we went to Debbie's, a little Irish bar, got drunk and ate pizza and a burger. Next day we hired a car (woo hoo!) and drove all the way to the airport to ... read more

The Wombat said to the Kangaroo "Gooday my friend, and how are you?" "I'm glad you asked" said the Kangaroo "I'm sitting here wondering what to do". "I've lost me jump and got the hump, So I can't be a Kangaroo Boo Hoo". Mick Leigh Elephants are lovely guys, They're good and true and tell no lies. They don't take more than they can eat, And always watch where they put their feet. Wayne Hepburn Imagine catching a ferry to France; you leave England with the familiar call of robins and song-thrushes, and the rustling of rabbits in hedgerows echoing in your ears. On arrival in France you are met with strange birds and small mammals exhibiting foreign colours, patterns, shapes and sizes. None of these creatures are recognisable; none of them look like the ones ... read more

Langkawi With our Thai visa about to run out, we decided to head south to the Malaysian border on a visa run. This would allow us to return to Thailand to explore some more islands for the last leg of our trip. We decided to visit the Malaysian island of Langkawi for two nights as we had missed this area on our way through Malaysia previously. It was easy organising a bus and ferry from Satun, Thailand to Langkawi and it cost us 850B and took around 6 hours in total. Langkawi is a beautiful island but very commercialised as it is a duty free zone. We stayed at AB Motel AT Cengah beach and got a very basic but clean room for 50RM. Having spent the last few weeks in Thailand, Langkawi was a bit ... read more

Arriving in Malaysia is a somewhat strange experience in that it seems like a weird combination of both Thailand/ Eastern culture and good ole Blighty! A little bit more developed than Thailand, it was bizarre to travel on roads with proper signs and traffic lights - for one minute, we closed our eyes and thought we were travelling up the A38! We stayed in the Pantai Cenang area (in line with our limited budget) and poor Geen had the pleasure of finding us somewhere to stay due to my still being out of action from the bout of food poisoning. Having worked her way along the beach checking out various dubious establishments, we checked in to the AB Motel - another Lonely Planet recommendation - for 60 ringgit a night (12 quid a room). The beach ... read more

Saa tog vi faergen til Langkawi. Her kan vi godt lide at vaere! Mega hyl at koere motorcykel! Vi koerte ud til et bjerg, hvor det var muligt at blive transporteret op via en kabelbane. Billigt og fremragende udsigt. Desvaerre skyet til den side hvor ... read more

03/10/08 Friday Day 50 24 hours of Travel Part 1 Didn’t do much else in Phangan this morning. Just checked out and sat on the beach until we got out taxi to the ferry at 4pm. The ferry was uneventful except that it took 2 and a half hours. I would have swam it faster. The ferry was a car ferry so I suppose it couldn’t really go that fast. After getting off the boat we hopped on a bus to Suratthani town to get another local taxi/converted pickup truck with all the other backpackers heading for the train station. We landed there around half 9 and our train wasn’t until 00:40 so a bit of a wait of doing nothing. More trains came and passed. At one stage I went for a walk and looked ... read more
