Mmmmm. Potem pa sta pocasi prisla Moon in tisti Francoz Alex in skupaj smo se nekaj po pol deveti odpravili Pulau Langkawiju naproti. Roadtrip begins! Na krovu so bili po moji laicni oceni sami ... read more

We caught the ferry from Penang to Langkawi at 8.30am, the journey was a bit rough and the boat seemed to have been overloaded on one side and tilted to the left for the whole two and a half hours! lots of sick bags were used, although thankfully not by us! Grateful to be back on dry land we got our map out and started to plan our route, I had thought the island was pretty small and so we should walk from Kuah, the ferry port town, to Pantai Cenang, the beach area where our hostel was. Paul asked how much a teksi would be and at 24 ringgitts we realised it was quite a long journey, about 17km later I was very thankful we hadn't walked especially as it was at least 30 degrees ... read more

So we arrived on Pulau Langkawi and took a cab to our hotel at Pantai Cenang. We chose one from our guidebooks that promised nothing fancy but that was clean, comfortable and feet from the beach. Checked in for 2 nights and were glad the hotel lived up to its rep. We unloaded our bags and started strolling the main street to see what our little town had to offer and then made our way to the beach and walked back to our hotel. We spent two days lazing around and then decided it was time to move on. The beach and town were nice but nothing remarkable and we had some ground to cover. So we take a taxi back to the ferry, and that's when things got interesting. So we knew that we were ... read more

... read more

Hi there everyone. My trips going really well so far and I'm really starting to settle in to this whole backpacking thing. Today it's exactly three weeks to the day and I must tell you it has flown by. Right now I'm sitting in a Starbuck's in downtown Kuala Lumpur enjoying a coffee and some free internet access. I'm waiting for my flight out tonight to Bangkok so I thought I'd take the chance to catch you all up on the last week. I had a really good time in Langkawi, mostly I think because of the new friends I made there at Gecko's. Don't get me wrong Langkawi is a great little place but I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much without the people I met, it really does make all the ... read more

After 90 minutes on the ferry we arrive at Langkawi Port. A taxi man finds us and agrees a reasonable fee to take us to our hotel. First impressions are it is very nice - once we get our room we grab a couple of beach towels and head to the beach for the afternoon. The water is clean and flat and we are both in a very chilled mood. We decide to stay at the hotel tonight and relax and watch the sunset - unfortunately there is a big island in the way they did't mention that in the brochure. Anyway a couple of Tiger beers later and we are off to eat in the hotel restaurant - the food was nice but it was virtually empty - looks like everyone eats out. After the ... read more

It's an interesting thing, backpacking. Just when you get settled in and start to like a new place your also ready to move on to the next one. It's almost like once you've figured out where to go, what to do and where to eat, it all becomes too easy, so you challenge yourself and move on once again.. I left Batu Ferringhi seven days ago after a great week and I remember thinking when I was on the ferry heading across that I hope Langkawi is going to be better. There would be nothing worse than leaving a great place only to find a bad one ( I guess thats the curse of a backpacker hey!). A first I was a little disappointed with Langkawi (nothings really ever like how it is in your head ... read more

Langkawi We had an other ferry journey to from Penang to Langkawi that was a pretty boring, loud and uncomfy time - however, what greeted us was paradise! After our taxi ride we got to Zackry's guesthouse, one of the few backpacker orientated on the upper class island which is mostly home to classy holiday resorts. Zackry's is now run by an English guy and an American who make it a great place to stay. It is also a duty free island so the beer (which is heavily taxed throughout the rest of Malaysia, as it's a Muslim country) is rather cheap, just over 25 pence a can from the supermarket! The first afternoon we arrived and rented a motorbike to explore a little, it's was a stupidly hot day and not the comfiest we ... read more
