Hi there everyone. My trips going really well so far and I'm really starting to settle in to this whole backpacking thing. Today it's exactly three weeks to the day and I must tell you it has flown by. Right now I'm sitting in a Starbuck's in downtown Kuala Lumpur enjoying a coffee and some free internet access. I'm waiting for my flight out tonight to Bangkok so I thought I'd take the chance to catch you all up on the last week.
I had a really good time in Langkawi, mostly I think because of the new friends I made there at Gecko's. Don't get me wrong Langkawi is a great little place but I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much without the people I met, it really does make all the difference. A few days ago we hired this little car for the day to do some sight seeing. It was very expensive... not! It cost us about AUD$6 each for the whole day. Anyway the five of us went off exploring around the island and checked out some of the must do's. This included the The Cable Car (which was very high up I
might add), Seven Wells, The Waterfall and awesome beach at Tanjug Rhu on the North east side of the island. The beach was like something out of a movie.
It was such a fun day and one I will remember for a long time to come. Lots of silly gags, funny photos and fond memories. We didn't get back until about 10pm at night (which is a long day I might add if you didn't get to sleep the night before) and then backed it up with some drinking games to celebrate our big day out. I think I finally made it to bed around 4am, which means I had been up for about 42 hours straight! Needless to say the next day was very quite and the only thing we really did was go to the beach which is a 4 min walk from where we were staying at Gecko's.
Yesterday we all said our good byes and three of us headed back to KL on a bus (8 hours) to catch our different flights. Tonight I head for Bangkok by myself were I'll meet up with two of the girls again from Gecko's (there going by
bus etc) . Were going to head off to one of the islands in Thailand for a week or so as we have been told it is a good place to relax (Ko Chang). Stay tuned for more.....
Also a couple more observations for everyone..
- Facebook is a must when travelling, its crazy. Everyone and I mean everyone is on Facebook. emails and phone numbers are old school now..
- 7/11 is a god send in Asia. They are everywhere and to be honest I don't know what I'd do without them... I think I would starve...
- So far I have been able to live on about AUD$ 40 a day. I could easily half this if I wanted to (ie using dorms instead of private rooms).
- Everything smells, and I mean SMELLS! I don't think I'll ever get that nasty smell out of my head... ever!
