Napustimo ovo mesto ... read more

Another day in our beach hut and we arose early and headed down the beach to find some better digs. Luckily Mark and Dale had found a beachfront property, with its own bathroom. Great success and we moved in and then headed out to explore some more of arambol. For those doubters among you there ARE plenty of places to hang a hammock and yes it it very nice! So nice in fact that Ollie has invested in another, even more comfortable hammock and is definitely enjoying it! Since we like this place so much we may stay for a few days so the next few blogging days might be somewhat similar. Sorry. After a massive walk up the beach and back and watching the sunset over the sea we headed to a local restaurant to ... read more

Ive just been on the craziest bus journey, they have sleeper buses that have little cabins for 2 to share, ours was over the back wheels and it was like being on a roller coaster all the way! For 10 hours ive been bumped up and down and actually feel like ive flown off the mattress,im surprised i hadnt fallen out of the bunk compleatly and spent the last 10 hours holding on for dear life, (i obviously didnt get any sleep). spent the first 5 nights in arambol in a really nice little beach hut called samsara. Met up with 2 girls hanah and karen who were staying nextdoor and had a good time here. Hanah can teach yoga so the 4 of us would be on the beach and bent into every position possible, ... read more

Namaste everybody! Ok so first, yes, we are still alive. No rape or pillage yet, though I have already managed to get my wallet stolen at Mumbai airport- typical Harriet huh? Never mind- living off my credit card for the time being (thanks mum!). So anyway- we arrived in Mumbai (dust, heat, palm trees, pollution) and were whisked away to our hotel in a rickshaw at about 1,000 mph by the insane driver who nearly managed to kill us but not quite. It's easy to forget that the chaos on the roads is just standard in India- a lot more fun than getting a taxi at home. We basically slept our first day as Virgin were pretty rubbish and allowed us neither entertainment nor sleep. The people in front of us had dreads down to their ... read more

Arambol 7th - 16th November 2007 The second leg of our journey took us to Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus (Victoria Station) the busiest train station in all of Asia. As we arrived at 6.30am we were greeted by hundreds of men, workers, filing off the trains ready to start their day's work in Mumbai. The train station itself is an amazing Gothic building and it apparently has influences from Hinduism, Islam and the Victorian Era and it is a tourist attraction in itself. After we found our platform and found where we were meant to board we had to sit and wait for our train. The time the train was due to depart came and went and we sat listening to the tanoy system, trying to decipher what they were trying to tell us about our train. ... read more

Am still here in Goa - in the tranquil and very strangely hypnotic Arambol. Billed as a very quiet town where people go to get away from the bustling crowds of Anjuna - I have found the exact opposite. I do think this is a geographical thing - Arambol is the first main coastal town in Goa as you travel south from Mumbai - and I think everyone just gets off the train here first on their way down and stays put for a while. I have been for for nearly a week and am booked into my room until the end of this week coming - before I head off to the Yoga centre for two weeks of (fairly expensive) healthy living and hopefully brush up my very rusty skills on the old mat. It ... read more

Getting to Goa was a chore worth mentioning briefly- We took a 16hr sleeper train from Jodhpur to Mumbai: so far so good. It was as good as a 16hr train journey can be... Then we spent 2hrs in the blistering heat and humidity of the hottest place in creation (i.e Mumbai) trying in vain to book a train, before relenting and buying an over-priced bus ticket leaving later that evening. So one substandard lunch later and we were preparing to board the bus...or so we thought... Ultimately, we arrived in Goa 21hrs later, having waiting 3hrs on the foot path- as the bus was delayed- and then having sat for 18hrs on the back seat (cue whiplash & slipped disks) of a non-ac, non-luxury, non-worth-the-money bus- 7hrs longer than anticipated. But we made it!!!! (It ... read more
