After spending 3 days in Mumbai, we get up really early to catch the 06.55 Mandovi Express to Goa. We get to the main CST train station at rush hour (manic!) to find our train is delayed by 5 hours! Rubbish! After wandering around for a bit trying to find an open cafe to sit and wait in (there was none!) we end up at the station food kiosk and were taken in by the lovely employees who let us sit and eat in the cool and calm of their office rather than in the crazy station (nice!). We then sit in the crowded waiting area and get told by a nice lady that there is an AC waiting room with nice bathrooms for tourists (hooray, but just a little too late as Holly had already ... read more

Hello everyone! So rather a lot of time has passed once again since my last entry! I'm not very good at this keeping in touch thing especially as now i am on the move....or stuck to a sunbed in goa! So i guess i should rewind and recap our last month at Happy Days and then move on to my current whereabouts! So our last month at Happy Days consisted of singing, dancing, painting, packing and preparing to say goodbye :( We celebrated our three month anniversary and went to see our first Bollywood movie, which unfortunately was a bit crap and all in hindi so kinda hard to follow...but we did have the whole cinema to ourselves which was kinda cool!!:P We spent some time going into the local villages to help with the community ... read more

After Chrissie's few days of sickness and the accompanying requirement to stay in the hotel room, it felt fantastic to get to Goa, with its beaches and wide open spaces. We spent 8 days in Goa, but for 6 of these we, to all intents and purposes, did exactly the same thing - relaxed at the beach. India is so hot, busy and hectic, that it was wonderful to get to a couple of beach resorts and just kick back for a while. We visited two villages, called Anjuna and Arambol, the former for 2 days and the latter for 4. During the 60's and 70's both thrived as favourite hangouts for hippies and there is still evidence today. They are, of course, much more modernised and commercial nowadays, but the relaxing and carefree vibe still ... read more

We arrive at Arambol beach and find the cheapest decent hut again. It's way down the end of the beach but its nice and should be quiet during the day. I'm really hoping to find a big parties here; Goa trance scene coem on!! Scooters are definitly the way to get around here. They are cheap and give so much freedom. The only thing is there are no helmets and apparently no road rules in India. Generally Might is right, so watch out for bigger vehicles and go around with you thumb on the horn to alert anyone who doesn't see you coming. Works for me and I get around pretty swiftly. I eventually find the first big party it's just down the beach and the word is everyone goes there. It seems there is usually ... read more

Ah so much to tell - where to start? Imbolc found me ready to break out of the Pune cocoon and ma'am began her journey coastwards with fellow mystic rose Sandrine on an overnight bus to Goa. Arambol in a nutshell: YOGA, countless opportunities to stay in the middle until in the relentless heckling on the main drag or the inevitable haggling process when attempting a purchase, unending streams of the fab and fagalicious gliding by on their motorbikes svelte and helmetless, boho threads on their bronzed bods, the constant sound of the sewing machine going at it hell for leather, buffalo grazing at the plastic bottle mountains, the quiet vastness of the mountain peoples down for the season, the beauty of the cliff walk to Keri beach, the joy of sannyasin infused Magic Park where ... read more

So. After Jodphur we drove around 5 hours south to a city called Udaipur where we stayed for one night. On the way we stopped off at the Jain temple which was a temple built with no walls, just pillars. There wasn't much to see in Udaipur except for the beautiful lake palace and a city palace. We left Udaipur the next evening to catch an overnight train to Mumbai. I wasn't sure what to expect because we had booked sleeper class, one down from AC (air conditioning) and none of us slept well, the beds were uncomfortable and it was really hot. The fans just seemed to blow the hot air on you, not very useful me thinks. We had a short stop in Ahmedabad from 4am to 8am and then back onto the train ... read more

The rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated. After a very long pause, I am once again adding to my travel blog. I've been in India for the last two weeks, Iran for the month before that, and had two more weeks in Turkey since my last post from Istanbul on December 24th. Since then, I have travelled by land from Turkey into Iran, and flew into Mumbai from Tehran, with a 4 hour stopover in Bahrain (my first opportunity to drink beer in a month! :). I have a partial excuse for my lack of blogging: While I was in Iran from January 7th until February 5th, I could not access to my blog site. The Iranian Mullahs block a lot of sites, including that one, so it wasn't possible to post a blog ... read more

Hello there! Since Agonda and our moped fun, we took a bus to Panaji, the capital of Goa and stayed in a hovel for 2 nights. We had to share a room with the biggest cockroach in S.E Asia which took great delght in waiting on the toilet to say goodnight to Katie (but for 350Rs we were happy). Panaji used to be occupied by the Portuguese and is by far the cleanest and prettiest town we have visited, with cottages and alley ways similar to those in Portugal and Spain. After nice long walks round the town we took a 'relaxing' cruise along the Mandovi river on Valentines day. As we stepped aboard we noticed disco lights, a dance floor and a man with a microphone attempting to drag unsuspecting couples onto the stage. Katie ... read more

Our last meal in China was in a small Muslim restaurant close to Shenzhen airport. We had a stopover there before getting the ferry from Shenzhen to Hong Kong. We stayed in a modern hotel and the surrounding streets were uninviting at first sight but when Sue and I ventured out in the evening we found we were greeted with hello's and smiles and soon identified a restaurant where waiters were wearing the little white hats we had become accustomed to seeing in XiAn and ordered our food by looking at other diners and pointing to whatever they were eating that looked good.. We were not disappointed with the food or the resulting bill of about £3 for both of us. After a little investigation we found we could get a ferry airport to airport from ... read more
