Happy new year ! I arrived in Bombay very early in the morning and began to search for someone who wanted to go to Colaba (the cheap place in town), so we could share the taxi fare. I finaly found a friendly couple from Finland. Most people I talked to were going to Goa for the new year so I decided to give it a go as well. After spending two weeks in a deserted area (Sinai) I felt like seeing more people. I bought a ticket in a 'sleeping bus' to Goa (14h), that sounds nice, doesn't it ? The bus has two levels with beds that are quite small but it's much better than a seat. All was good, until my 'bed-mate' arrived... Yes, we were supposed share a per (tiny) bed. Anyway, the ... read more

After a frantic two days in Mumbai, we have escaped to Goa and to the beach1 We have travelled north to Arambol which is about an hour away from central Goa. Arambol so far seems to have escaped the tourist trail and is a small resort full of ageing hippies and crustys (who are all lovely and friendly) . We have a room overlooking the beach which is clean and spacious and more importantly only coast us one pound eighty a night each. The only downside is the mosquito activity and the ratty looking squirrel thing that lives in the roof and rains down shit all over our room. Since leaving mumbai the price of everything has gone down and i am comfortably managing on my budget of a tenner a day. Goa is beautiful and ... read more

O.M.G We finally arrived in Mumbai after an amusing flight. Cat (who Im travelling with) started to black out on the flight. I've never seen the colour drain from someones face so quickly. Luckly we had Rob sat next to us, a paramedic from London-who helped out loads even though he was completly pissed on red wine. Mumbai is full on in ya face chaos. A big shit hole full of smelly slums, run down buildings and wild dogs everywhere. We decided to roll with it, and embrace. This is a city in India after all. We got a taxi to Colarba. the unoffical tourist hub of mumbai. And found our budget hotel. After a quick kip and change, we headed out to check out this hectic place. In hindsight 5.30pm on a friday was probably ... read more

A hangover!! I'm at the cyber cafe and the poor guy is back at the hotel with an awful headache. Yesterday was his birthday. We got an Ayurvedic couples massage, then I had our hotel set up a candle light dinner in the garden and serve us Punjabi food, wine and birthday cake. Two glasses of Chianti and he's on his deathbed. I find it strange that he can drink 3 pegs of whisky and be fine, but 2 glasses of wine killed him.I can do two glasses of wine, but one sip of whisky kills me, I think I'm allergic. There were some girls in Alaska who were so tuff, they could drink a shot of whisky and not even flinch, I'll admit it, I thought they were pretty cool. So if you're wondering ... read more

Mornings the church bell tolls slowly at 06h30, then rapidly at 06h50 like some priest-driven alarm clock with snooze control. I waken to an incredible avian cacophony. Some I recognize, others are new sounds. Birds calm down as the sun begins to heat the day, but they’re never entirely silent, particularly the crows. Rented a motorcycle about a week ... read more

Green and red seem to me to be the predominant colours here within the natural world. Green vegetation and red earth (there must be a lot of iron in the soil), which gives rise to a fair bit of red dust. But when it comes to human-made things, they use the entire spectrum, whether it's for clothing or houses. Visually, this place is Disney on drugs. As if they’ve ripped the rainbow from the sky and used it for a paintbrush. I'm in a seaside village called Arambol, in the state of Goa on the west coast of India. It's a tourist place because of the great beaches here, so it reminds me a little of Bodrum in Turkey. Sure, it's part of India, but just like Bodrum it's different as well: a bit unreal, a ... read more

Leaving Bombay turned out to be a bit like trying to enter the Pentagon with a turban on... We headed to the beautiful VT Terminal, 2nd flr, Booth #54, where we were assured to be able to book the "tourist quota" tickets that the Indian Govt. leaves open for impressional foreigners like ourselves - but after waiting in line for over 45 minutes we came to the window to be informed that the trains were full (of tourists like us) for the next week - But gloriously, they reassured us, 16 hour sleeper buses were available. Arranging one of these turned out to be more of a nightmare than the train (hard to believe), but through a miracle and a tug we got out at last. 2 hours of sleep and 14 hours of rhoccus roller ... read more

After settling in at Arambol and loving our new shack on the beach we decided that this was definitely the place to stay! The weather was perfect, the views were great and the beer was very cheap! We have spent the previous 4 days lazing around on the beach, eating good food and finding new places to string up our hammocks! (well ollie did anyway!) Not much else to note except Ollie decided to have his hair dreaded and Dale was sporting a new buzz cut and beard!... read more
