I left off after our first week of our yoga course. In the end we did a two week yoga course with am amazing yoga guru and person named Mahi. The yoga course was six hours a day, 6 days a week, starting at 7 am until 930 and in the evening from 4 pm until 7. We learned meditation, pranayama's (proper breathing techniques), the philosophy of yoga and assana's which are the yoga positions. What an amazing experience! We were all so sore and in rough shape by the end of the 2nd week, 72 hours of yoga later!! Mahi is an absolute guru. What he can do with his body is insane! he was just the right mixture of professionalism, support, encouragment, challenge, cheekyness, insparation and hilariousness. His favourite line was: " I am ... read more

hello everybody! were actually in bangkok at the moment as i didnt really fancy doing the blog over xmas and the only broadband computer in majorda was down an aisle in a very cramped shop. however ive got a load of time to do it so now you can finally hear whats been going on. well, Arambol was good. i really enjoyed it. it was so much more relaxing and laid back but with still a fair bit to do at night. i ended up having to go to the doctors for antibiotics for my poorly tummy and everything was better after only being given three days dosage! but it worked. we didnt ever meet up with adams cousin. we think that she was staying a bit of a way away from the beach as she ... read more

Happy christmas folks! Christmas eve was when we finally got a bit excited abou christmas, a few fireworks were going off on the beach and a few Indian kids and clearly Australian tourists had on christmas hats! We went to meet our friends Wendy, Ami, kate and danny at their local hangout to join them for christmas drinks and boy were they having christmas drinks indeed! they had started at 12 noon so were pretty jolly and stoned, so with a bit of convincing we managed to get one of the staff of the bar to fit 6 of us in a tiny tiny car and drive down to the surf club, down a mad bumpy road listening to goan political hindu reggae! All the floors of the club were mosaic and it had no walls ... read more

So this is all in a mishmash order as it's stuff that has happened over the last week. I'll still leave russ to tell you about our bike, but I will say we have named it Emily and it is AWESOME!!! So lets start with snakes! We went to Anjuna last night about a 30 minute drive, crazy winding roads, unmarked speed bumps and stupid crazy bikes overtaking busses without looking whats coming and cars over taking a bike thats overtaking us and then pulling in when suprisingly a car is on the other side coming towards us! The drive back was our first ride on Emily in the dark and we went at about 20 miles an hour all the way in fear of unlit bikes, cats, dogs pedestrians and... a big BIG BIIIG snake ... read more

The last day of the Mumbai-Goa coastal circuit. The plan was to drive to Terekhol, see the fort, take the ferry to cross the creek and then drive south to Goa. A Dad's friend called me in Sawantwadi and insisted that I should visit his home in Shiroda. He and his wife took some time out from his morning rush to the office to have a little chat over the tea. I dropped him at the Vengurla branch of Syndicate bank. Everyone seemed to remember my Dad even though it was about 15 years back. My bike was definitely a center of attraction as it had been all over the trip. I came back to Shiroda and headed to Terekhol fort which is now a heritage hotel. I remember staying in their premium suite 15 years ... read more

So the animal sanctuary is where we spend most of our afternoons at the moment, still chilling on the beach and eating lots and exploring Goa but this place is doing such a great thing, its nice to be part of it and help out. Before they started up, all the dogs and cats were fed loads from November until March ( tourist season ) then left to starve alone when all the tourists left, there are horrible stories and cases of horrific deaths for them, they start to scavenge once we leave and keep the locals awake howling and steal their food etc, so they often get shot, poisoned, starve to death and in the most cruel way, stoned to death. It's really sad but it's a dog eat dog world in india, so instead ... read more

So while Alicia was going through 10 hours of pain i thought i would hire a scooter and go for a leisurely ride around a few different beaches and just generally explore whats around us. Indian roads are definately not for the faint hearted, especially in the large cities, but out here in north Goa its pretty relaxed by indian terms. That doesnt mean to say that there are not loads of potholes to navigate or cows, chickens, dogs and cats that suddenly run into the road to dodge and crazy indian drivers beeping there horns, overtaking on the wrong side of the road on corners and carrying massive loads like wardrobes or other furniture on there little scooters. After a while you start to get used to it and realise that beeping of your horn ... read more

So far I have had lots of adventures in Mumbai. All very pleasant and wonderful. It all started at the airport in Heathrow where the lovely lady from the travelex told me not to get any currency as it is restricted and the rate was very poor. What I should do was buy a cash passport - put some money onto that and then draw it at the airport from an ATM at 80R to the pound as opposed to 60 in London.... what a bargain I thought... Fantastic idea! Except when you get to Mumbai at 3am and the ATM isn't working it just doesn't seem like such a good idea! Its 30 degrees in the dark and you don't have a penny to your name - you are sweating not only because you are ... read more

Monday, Oct 26th - Arambol, Goa So, today we left Anjuna to go to Arambol. The weekend was fine. We didn’t end up partying at all, but we met really nice people and hung out at the Shore Bar a lot. I finished ‘eat, pray, love’ yesterday and actually got a parcel send out today to hopefully be in Melbourne before I am. Sending a parcel in India usually includes spending 2-3 hours at the post office (not exaggerating here!). But siunce the post office in Anjuna is tiny, it only took me 20 minutes. Like everything in India, sending a parcel is quite complicated and includes various forms, copies of your passport and getting the packet stitched up in cotton sheet. I hope it’ll actually get there. Oh, and I rebooked my flights to Australia. ... read more
