Well, here are some of the pictures from my travels in India so far, eventually I'll add more of them and write up specific entries, but I just wanted to get a few online to begin with. Many of my friends and family have been asking for pictures, and I sent out a few that a friend I was travelling with had sent me, since they were already on the computer, but as it takes a while to upload them here, (and I dislike spending time on the computer) the entries may be few and far between - we'll see. As a basic introduction, I came to India in the beginning of November and went to Rajpur, just outside Dehra Dun, Uttaranchal, where the first few pictures of the mountains are from. While I was there, ... read more

After a grueling 35 hour train ride and a terrifying 30 minute taxi ride, I am in Goa, Arambol to be exact. So far the coolest thing about arambol is the lizards, they're everywhere and considering they eat the mad mosquitos they make me happy. I got devoured on the train by mosqs, it's was awful, I am taking malaria but i couldn't take it the one day because of a bad case of motion sickness on the train. So far the one thing that i've really noticed about goa is the staring, today is a national holiday (indepenance day) and bus loads of men come to walk up and down the beach and stare at you. They're totally not coy about it either, it's rather invasive. I'm going to have to do some serious shopping, ... read more

after two and a half months of straight backpacking, we were plenty prepared to take in what India has to offer. people we have met so far during our travels have said that they either LOVE or HATE India. although it is very different from any other country we have experienced thus far... we already LOVE it! India has a warm vibe that is almost contagious. at least to us. for many travellers, the pollution, extreme poverty, constant haggling, and high risk of diarrhea deters them from seeing the true beauty of this magical country. each state in India is soooooo different with a rainbow of languages, customs, religions, food, clothing... culture when it comes down to it. this sub-continent is SO big we are overwhelmed with our short stay. so what do we do? we ... read more

We moved on to Arambol, the most northern beach in Goa and felt immediatly that it had a better vibe than Anjuna, and not a thong in site!! We got a lovely shack nearly on the beach, which was very cheap - around 80p/night. Arambol is very chilled out a stunning, it is quiet and provides lots of opportunity for relaxing. While we were here, Claire & Gill judged a sandcastle comp which was brill, they did a great job. We went to old Goa, definatly worth a visit. Still very reminscent of Portuguese colonial times, interesting buildings and catholic churches. We found some live music in the evening, which was really great, However we were all up for a party and theres no where to dance in Arambol, so when some girls we met talked ... read more

Ahhh.....I finally reached the beach and oh, so nice. On the flight from Delhi to Goa, I met up with some Israelis girls (go figure) who told me I should go to Arambol beach in the north. Since i did not have a plan, i said OK. Funny how life works out because as I stroll onto the beach with my backpack in search of a place to stay, i hear someone yell "Larry". It turns out to be Malte, my German friend I traveled with from Pushkar to Jodhpur! I spent the next few days enjoying the wonderful beach of Arambol with Malte (aka "The Dude") and a group of Israelis (98% of the people there were from Israel). I will let the photos speak for themselves here. I hope everyone at home is doing ... read more
