The trip to Peru yesterday was long and boring, although the border crossing wasn't as bad as we had been anticipating. There was a 5-hour bus to the Ecuadorian Immingration office, then a short bus to the border, which exists in the middle of the border town Huaquillas. We opted to get a private mini-van for $4 each to get us to Mancora in 2.5 hours - half the time that the other option of 3 buses would have taken! The Peruvian landscape is very different to Ecuador - whilst Ecuador is green and full of life, Peru is dry and arid. Most of the journey here was like driving through the desert. Mancora itself is one main road which stretches along the length of the beach - the sandy beach that has warm water, by ... read more

So we spent 4 days in the beautiful, relaxed and super-bohemian beachside town of Mancora. It was our first stop in Peru after spending a gruelling entire day on a bus to cross the border. We arrived late at night and racked up to a not so great hostal called Hostel Sol y Mar. The guidebooks rate it as value for money and a good place to stay. I disagree. It sounded like we were right next to a nightclub with boom boom boom coming through the walls until 1am and drunkards playing ping pong outside of our door until the small hours too. Although it would be a great place if you're wasted and can crash after partying all night, but I prefer somewhere a little quieter. Needless to say we moved on the very ... read more

Sharon and I arrived in Mancora at 4am so needless to say we were tired and just wanted a bed. We jumped into a tuk tuk type car and headed to the Loki Hostel however the second time of trying to stay at a Loki was no more successful than the first and the security guard turned us away without a bat of an eyelid. After trying a few more places without success we were pointed in the direction of the Laguna Surf Hostel and boy did it transpire we lucked out with this place!! We were swiftly shown into a small cabin where we both swiftly collapsed into bed. The next morning we got up and headed into the town with our washing. The washing dropped off it was time to get an ice-cream and ... read more

Still in Peru at this stage (our final stop in fact before crossing the border to Ecuador). We had intended to spend a few days here enjoying the sunshine and beach and possibly even some surfing but Mancora hostels were fully booked and we struggled to find a room! In any event we did get to stay a couple of days and enjoyed lazying in hammocks, eating ice cream and paddling in the ocean :) More text in next weeks.... read more

Co-written by Gali & Seth: It is best to describe Mancora in one word paradise. Blue skies, sandy beaches, warm breeze, the breathtaking pacific sunset as well as the freshly caught daily tuna made this destination a perfect place for Gali and I to end our South American adventure. Our accommodation was magnificent!!!! Casa Del Playa (in English this means castle by the beach - you can say that again). The staff were attentive, accommodating and pleasant. The rooms can be described as clean & basic, no tv's, phone, or anything electronic for that matter making it more of a getaway... not to mention great showers and a balcony outfitted with a hammock and an AMAZING view of the ocean!!!!!!! We would recommend this place to everyone!!!!! We spent our days relaxing on the beach whether ... read more

First of all a huge apology to all of you that have been waiting to hear from us, I hope you´ll be glad to know that we are in fact safe and just been really bad at keeping up to date with the blog. Once we had conquered Machu Picchu we hung around in Cuzco for a couple of days, once again enjoying the beautiful mix of colonial architecture and Inca ruins while we waited for Dave, Ollie and the three guys they were travelling with to finish their trek. A big night out later to say goodbye to Cuzco and we were all on our way straight to Lima where we checked into a hostel with three tier bunk beds for a couple of days. I have to admit that we didn't see much of ... read more

Well... It´s been a while since I last logged on to this blog and I was surprised to learn that I still actually have an account and that my profile hadn´t become obsolete! I just assumed that with the increasing preponderance of new online social networks, I´d have to subscribe to the latest electronic medium to share and document my travel experiences... But this makes it much easier. And obviously, please don´t feel obligated to read any of this stuff - it just helps me to keep an ongoing documentation of my travels and a good way to go back and appreciate the stories, anectdotes and overall experiences. So here I am, 3 1/2 years later, still as obsessed with traveling as ever, and though I can´t say that I know exactly where I belong, geographically ... read more

Heres a little easy going chillaxing blog to fill in the bits since the Galapagos. The next one should be a big one again cos we are on our way to Cusco and the Inca Trail. So we flew back to Guayaguil in the south of Ecuadr after the Galapagos. Its a bigger city than Quito, the capital. And once upon a time a pretty dangerous place I believe being a big port. But loads of money has been pumped into it. It has a beautiful waterside promenande now that is gorgeous and crawling with cops so completely crime free. We only had one nigt here so visited it and buzzed about the city during the day. We taught we had our fill of wildlife too until we ventured into a local park and found Iguanaus ... read more

Mancora was a place that provoked thought. One night after returning from dinner and listening to the waves break on the beach I wrote this... The relics of time passed through the glimmer of a Star, glistening softly off the currents of time. An ocean is all the same as the tide comes in and retreats to safer grounds. In Mancora, can life continue to be this simple? The sand perfectly lines the feet from a soccer game played through a sunset. Passer-byers lend a foot as stray balls make there way to the ocean. What is a two week pay check? What is living off of mommies and daddies bank accounts? The night bus strikes pot holes consistently as it rumbles to a halt along a town only described in books. Need a taxi is ... read more
