Its 2010 and a lot has happened since my last entry, First off Happy New Year, I wish anyone who may be reading a healthy and safe one. Well we ended up staying over Christmas and New Years thanks to the kindness of some new and now dear friends but I will get to that in a minute. The massive, promised waves were delivered in spectacular fashion, I know nothing about surf but it was obvious they were huge, Somewhat proven on the first day when we watched an unlucky surfer emerge from the waves with a piece of his surf board in each hand, poor lad. Just watching these lads and lassies was amazing, again the break was so close to the beach and the full moon made for massive tides that came right up ... read more

Found a house on the beach, its part of a larger wooden beach house which has been separated into units, it has a really pretty garden with BBQ area and a long narrow lap pool niiicccceeeee. There are so many birds in the Garden, beautiful little yellow canaries and noisy Jays, John spotted a desert fox early the other morning. Taking advantage of the beach and walking a lot, not smoking has affected my metabolism and I have to make an effort, still at times really want a ciggie. Found a little diner type place owned by a wonderful Floridian couple called Jeff and Kathleen or locally known as Papa Mo and Kika, their son is back in the U.S.and Mom and Pop are taking care of business and doing it well, The restaurant is called ... read more

After all the border formalities between Ecuador and Peru we arrived on Peru soil at 5pm on Saturday evening. We could already feel the change in weather and could see the mosquitos looking for my blood!!! Once through the border our bus was bound for Tumbes where we had to change for a combi bus to Mancora. In tumbes we had to get a Tuk Tuk to the combi which then took around 2 hours to reach Mancora. When we arrived at Mancora it was dark so it was hard to judge what the place was like. The only thing we could tell is that we had not really arrived in Peru but some little gringo filled surfers home. One bad point is that we arrived at election time and for some reason that meant most ... read more

I have quit smoking after over 20 years of being a hopeless ciggie addict, Its bloody hard, I want a cigarette, right now I would sell my granny for 1 puff but I am determined, I am no longer a smoker. Finding out a little more about Mancora and Peru in General, We moved to another hostal called Casablanca in the main village though it is quiet, the internet is really fast which is great and the people are very nice, its cheaper but we are very comfortable. Taking long walks on the beach, its an interesting little town, when you head North along the beach, there is about 4kms of nothing but highend hotels and very grand private houses which we have been informed are mostly owned by well heeled limians, without a doubt very ... read more

That is the question I´ve been considering all night and morning. I woke up around 8 to start figuring out my route north. Every bus and bus driver I saw I asked if they were going to Tumbes, all said No Passe, No passe. So I headed to the internet cafe to call Aunt B for a credit card number to book a flight somewhere...I have no plastic on me and she´s my go-to person while my mom is indisposed. I checked the flights from Piura to Tumbes and they are 500-600 bucks...REDICULES! I also checked into a bus to Lima and then a flight from Lima to Guayaquil and that was 350 bucks...CRAZY. So before I booked anything I headed to the bus place to see if the busses were going again and the woman ... read more

What a beautiful last day! I checked out of my room at 11 and dropped my stuff behind the front desk of the hostel. After, I grabbed lunch from the birdhouse, the bacon, turkey, guacamole sandwich with potato salad...I´m kinda getting bored with American food! After lunch I laid out on the beach for a couple hours until it was kitesurfing time. Around 2 I met up with Rein and he gave me a kite, harness, and bar and said he would supervise me today...along with the other kid (Matias) who was also a beginner and needed supervision. We set everything up and launched our kites then headed down to the beach. I felt like I was riding into the wind, but apparently I was just riding FAST downwind. My main objective today is to ride ... read more

Chuchaki is Ecuadorean for Hangover! I´m not feeling too great today. I woke up around 830, chugged some gatorade, had some water and then went back to sleep til about 11. I got up and went to the beach to get some sun...it´s sooo hot here. I grabbed lunch at the Birdhouse, NC bbq and potatoe salad...very good. After lunch I headed to the beach. I was sweating my but off. I waited around til 2 then went to find Rein for some more kitesurfing today. He was doing a lesson already and the boys were in Lobidos practicing for the kite surfing competition this weekend, so there was nobody available to supervise me...it´s all good since I´m still hurting from last night and my muscles are pretty sore for riding all day yesterday. Around 330 ... read more
