I arrived in Salvador yesterday, after my flight from Manaus, with a connection in Sao Paulo (which is like going from Haifa to Jerusalem through Beer Sheva). Of course, my luggage did not arrive to Salvador (or actually the cover did, the backpack did not). I did not lose anything too important, so I am perfectly fine with it. Salvador itself is a very nice place. Everyone here is black, so it really is like a piece of Africa, and of course there is lots of capoeira stuff around. Mostly it is just tourist souvenirs, but there are some academies and classes, which I plan to go to. There are also lots of nice churches and old buildings, because Salvador was the first capital of the Brazilian territory (before Rio). I plan to stay here (luggage ... read more

Salvador has been a great place to spend a few days. We have stayed in the upper town in the Nega Maluca hostel which has been great. Being back amongst fellow travellers has enabled us to share a few war stories and to hear of other people's experiences too. Breakfast on the terrace has been great and you can't beat chilling out in a hammock for the afternoon. The city itself has your head turning with every step you take. There's artwork, dancing, music and, of course, churches, everywhere. It's easy to fill a day or two just browsing. If you are lucky you will catch an impromptu display of capoeira music or dancing. The dance comes from an Angolan marshall art and the music is very heavy on the drums but it ensures you feel ... read more

I was just passing through Salvador for one of the biggist parties so I figured I had to stop in and check it out. I Spent 7 nights in Salvador and had a chance to really experience Carnival. The only problem was it was to dangerious to take your camera out with you, so I have very little photos. I did buy a disposible one but I need to finish the roll then add them. Carnival in Salvador is broken up into three sections, The Pello, Campo Grande and Barra. I spent a few days in each and stayed in the pello the more traditonal music and dancing. I only wish I had some photos to show what it was really like.. ... read more

So from Olinda I headed back once again to Salvador. Although the journey was not without some trauma. My flight from Recife was due to leave at 9,50 am. Having been told I needed just 30 mins in the taxi to get there I went to check out of the hotel at 8,00 am, thinking that would be plenty of time. My valuables were in the safe but the receptionist informed me that the owner had the key and would be along in a few minutes. Twenty minutes later he still hadnt arrived and I was starting to get nervous so the receptionist went to hunt him down. I was told he was in the shower and he would be along. Twenty minutes later the owner finally arrived to declare that he´d left the key at ... read more

Hey all!!!... First and foremost CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! to Linda and Tony who are now proud parents to a beautiful baby boy!!! Cant wait to see pics of the little gremlin :) Wow its been a while since i did my last entry huh?.. All i can say was i LOVED Salvador and im sooooooo glad i chose to go there for the Carnival instead of Rio which is where i am at the moment and im really trying hard to like it but before i start bitching about Rio let me enchant you all with Pelourinho in Salvador. This place simply inspired me and what a bonus it was to be there during Carnival. The place is full of charm, beautiful old colonial buildings, narrow cobble streets surrounded by colourful art, musicians, locals in their traditional attire, ... read more

Each day a struggle. So it is my fourth and final week here in Brazil and I just wanted to make a short and not completely thorough entry. I dont really know how many people are actually reading this anyway! So um, yes, saturday I had my wallet stolen. It sucked. I was going to go to an island that day and obviously taht was thwarted and then i was so depressed about it sunday that i stayed in bed all day and watched movies (i still got a tan though ha!) No huge worries about the whole thing, my passport wasnt in there so basically everything can be replaced. Its been a real struggle out here learning portuguese and not really having many people to speak english to. I also have trouble talking to people ... read more

Tours Gone Wild - Carnival Trip!!!! Day 1 (Jan. 31, 2008): After a 5 months of waiting after I purchased my trip, the day is finally here. The dream trip to Carnival in Brazil and all of the beautiful Brazilian hotties!!!! Everything is set. I have my visa, passport, my bags are packed and I got to the airport in Miami 3 hours before my flight. Let’s see if the $3,000 I spent for my one in a lifetime trip was worth it. My friends went on the Tours Gone Wild trip last year and they still can’t stop talking about it. I was able to get my friend Sergio to go with me and he is as excited as me. Day 2 (Feb. 1, 2008): After a long flight (8 hrs from Miami to Sao ... read more

Vi tuslet rundt i gatene i gammelbyen ... read more

Well lets start with the arrival. jeez. its so hard to figure out how to do this. whats my style...shall i be long winded and detailed or use short simple sentences because i want to get out the events that happened (not every event mind you, some of what happens in rio has to stay in ... read more
