Today was my Day on the Great Barrier Reef. We went out to Mackay reef and there was only 5 divers on the boat so we had a small group and a superb time on the pristine reef. The coral colours were unbelievable and there was so many fish. My buddy, Helen, was so excited by it all! Had such a good day and the second dive was mind blowing. We dived at 'the Wall'. a big coral wall which seemed to glow with the colours and teemed with life. We saw another Mauri Wrasse like Elvis on the Whitsunday's. After all the excitement Helen and I decided to head out for tea...which meant we ate in the bar at the hostel! flashy! Met a random guy called Sam from Leeds with such a strong yorkshire ... read more

Have had a pretty good day today just doing some work during the day and at night I met a really nice english girl called caroline who is a cardiac nurse back home. She's travelling and working like me and will be living in melbourne for a few months as she is working in the local hospital. What is it about the Hampton sons and English nurses eh ??? I guess it must be the uniforms :)... read more

7.04.06~ Caught the bus over to Palm Beach today which is where they film Home & Away! Was really beautiful there and felt really strange to be sunbathing on the same beach we watch on telly! We sat and had an ice cream at the 'surf club' whilst keeping a good eye out for any glimpses of the stars..no such luck though! 10.04.06~Took a visit to the famous Bondi Beach this afternoon and spent a couple of hours enjoying our last little bit of sunshine before we head over to New Zealand! Met up with Wallis (from easyjet who i bumped into in Perth) at 6pm by the Opera house and then all headed over to 'Scruffy Murphys' Irish bar for a few jugs of Tooheys New! We got talking to 2 Irish guys-well more like ... read more

Carl Lynch was really good on Wednesday night, with a bit of a Jack Johnsony feel to his tunes. With another trip further north on the wonderful Premier bus awaiting us at 4:30pm the remainder of the day was spent jumping into the pool in a whole manner of various ways and styles, the best probably being a mid air high five with Matt who jumped from the opposite side of the pool slapping palms in mid air in the middle of the pool. The journey north is to a highly anticipated part of the trip to do Fraser Island from a bay called Hervey Bay. Bus journey was only a couple of hours so was nice and easy........ read more

After a caffeine charged breakfast it was time to explore Brisbane properly. First stop: The south bank's art museum. This museum had an interesting mix of historical and contemporary art both by Australians and foreigners. The real highlight though was the build your own lego model exhibit. My poor attempt to make Tower Bridge (why does everyone think its London Bridge?) really did highlight how bad my knowledge of british landmarks is but I suppose you could at least tell what it was! Next was a trip up to Fortitude Valley which houses some of the seedier (and more vibrant!) haunts of Brisbane, as well as a small but well formed Chinatown, before grabbing a ferry back to the south bank and exploring that further.... read more

I wake up every morning around 11:00 and walk into the kitchen and pour myself a bowl of Cocoa Puffs, sit down in front of the computer to catch up on e-mails and gossip, then turn on CNN to see what’s going on. Man, it is so weird being back in the western world. Being in a house in a neighborhood with all the amenities. I think I ma having some kind of reverse culture shock. But I can’t help but love it. It’s been extremely relaxing here. Not having to pack up and move on every couple days. My daily routine here in Boronia is to get up in the morning, have some breakfast, play with Sophie (Neal’s dog), surf the net, watch some TV, read a little…and wait for Neal to get off work ... read more

Spent 2 days at Uluru, Ayers Rock and had a great time. It's right out in the outback obviously and there's only one resort of hotels and hostels etc and one shopping area with one supermarket. There was a free shuttle bus that ran every 10 minutes or so and went round to all the hotels and to the shops so that was cool. We stayed in the Outback Pionner Hotel and Lodge and stayed in a 4 bed dorm. The dorm was ok, really basic (just 2 bunks) but clean. We had to trek through the resort though (which was just the outback - lots of red sand and trees) to get to the toilets and showers which was a bit scary at night! When we arrived we booked a sunset and a sunrise tour ... read more

Some things are never meant to be, like me diving a wreck in Australia. I turned up at the dive shop at obscene o'clock in the morning just to be greeted and told "im sorry, i've had to cancel the dive. Too much wind". wimps. I've dived in far worse wind than this. Theres more wind that this the morning after a chilli con carne. I suppose they know best tho... I suppose I will have to save the HMAS Brisbane for another day. I had a nice breakfast to console myself, an before long I was on a coach to Brisbane where I met up with Hanna (Han Nah), a friend I made in Ayr. We spent the afternoon wandering around Brisbane eating ice cream and enjoying the (lack of) sunshine. A lot of people ... read more

Hello all I'm here to tell you a little story about a place called Darwin. The thing you have to remember about Darwin is that it is in the tropics so that means really high humidity (80% phew!) and that they have a wet season. Now it appears that i have arrived at the end of the wet season and at a time the aborigines call the "knock-em-down" storm season. Now boy do they mean it! Its still like 35 degrees but at about 4 o'clock most days you are pretty much guaranteed a spectacular storm! Its really weird walking round in your shorts and thongs (sorry flip flops cant help but pick up the lingo) while being soaked through to your skin yet the second the rain stops you dry off! why cant the rain ... read more

Saturday. Grim. Minimal response. Finally ended at Telstra Dome where thousands of footy fans walked past and only a handful got stickers. One guy got seven. At least, at least 30,000 people saw the design. Sunday. Couldn't face streets of Melbourne again. Went to Williamstown, old port. Some local festival. Many taken. Felt better. Decided to go to Ballarat - sacred site - only one hour away. There it was oh so quiet. Found Irish pub with music, old bearded guys playing traditional music. One guy gave me twenty. Went to "Peter Lalor" pub. I know Peter Lalor from Cottesloe, direct descendant. Ballarat flew him over for the 150th anniversary two years ago. Monday. Ballarat "Courier did interview and pic at Eureka Stockade site which should be out in tomorrow's edition. (Here I must mention that ... read more
