Well, my intermediate class was cancelled yet again. I decided that I needed some pictures to prove to you guys that I'm actually going out there so I 'HIRED' a surfboard today and went out with mark and mike. THe surfing was choppy as hell and really difficult. I was also on a shorter board to make it more difficult; but it was fun as always! We then went out for a 'gourmet burger' afterwards at Burgerman and I was going to take a picture of the burger when it got there but then I took a bite instead. And then it was gone... but I got a picture of the plate. Tonight Marks cooking a nice Italian meal, I vow to not put on weight but its been difficult. They eat so damn well. I ... read more

Australia, it’s hard to write about, the people, the humour, the food, the climate, the buildings and even the traffic laws are so like home it’s almost like being back. I can see why so many ex-pats live here; it must be such an easy transition, sort of like moving to slightly odd part of the UK with better weather. Nowhere was this more true than Melbourne which reminded me of a modern European city where I was expecting a cityscape more akin to New York. Throughout my stay in Melbourne I was staying with my godmother, having a home cooked meal and a decent bed did me wonders. On my first day I went to an animal sanctuary called Healesville where I saw (and in some cases stroked) Koalas, Kangaroos, Wombats, Spotted Quolls and even ... read more

We came up to Cape Tribulation yesterday, after a long drive we came to the Wildlife Sanctuary- we fed the Roo's and the Ducks, saw a few crocs, got a picture stroking a Koala, held a Python... that was only the beginning of the day! Unfortunately we only have pictures of the Koala's as I accidently deleted everything else! (Soo Sorry Kay) We went for a walk through the rainforest near Mossman Gauge, and got absolutely drenched with rain! Then went back dried of( just a little) as it continued to rain all night, Today we went diving on the Rumrunner (www.rumrunner.com.au), to dive and snorkel on the GBF. It was amazing- only 2 boats have the permit to go in these waters and we were privileged to be on one of them. If you want ... read more

Brisbane was where Lorna's parents joined us for a couple of weeks. We spent two days in the city, eating nice meals (only afforded when we are not picking up the bill ourselves) and sightseeing. The boat trip along the river through the city was cool, Brisbane was much nicer than we had imagined. On leaving Brisbane we took a boat over to Tangalooma Wild Dolphin resort, a beautiful beach resort where we fed wild dolphins. It was amazing, each night a group of dolphins, adults and babies, swam into the bay for their meal of fish and for a chance to show off to the spectators. The experience was great. Whilst at the resort we also went quad biking in the sand dunes and we did some snorkelling until it was cut short by a ... read more

Hello from oz! We got off to an early start today, and went downtown airlie beach to the Saturday market. Not really a lot there, but I did find a jewelery stand where I bought a couple of necklaces and some earings. Paulina got one as well. We’re traveling today up to Townsville, closer to where we’re flying out of Australia. There is a Sunday market in Townsville that is supposed to be really nice, as long as we can get there tonight. We spent most of the day traveling, after leaving airlie beach. There has been a tremendous amount of rain here, a lot of roads are flooded, and I think if the water was any deeper we may have had to wait. We did make it to Townsville by around 4 oclock, and grabbed ... read more

Australia is great. We’ve been having a ball since we arrived. It’s really funny because we feel like we’re just on holiday for a couple of weeks, not scummy travelers. It has been amazing having Stu's friend Scott’s apartment to ourselves while he’s off doing his traveler thing too in South America - thanks a lot mate! I think we have been getting into the creature comforts a bit much though. We almost feel like we live here now. American hostels might be a bit of a shock after all this comparative luxury. (Stu’s been to Australia before but I didn’t come to Sydney with any expectations or plans really and have been very pleasantly surprised! - I was thinking it would just be like England, but with better weather, but it really isn’t. There is ... read more

Well I made a docs appointment for when I get back to Cairns tonight and my mission for today was to keep it CLEAN! So in that it hurt to walk and I couldnt really go in the pool with an open wound I sat and talked to Sam for a few hours! Nice boy but I upset him by tellin him I was going to Leeds Festival and he isnt!! tehe Brad, the tour guide for our return to Cairns, arrived to collect us with the news that the Ferry back across the Daintree River was stuck and there was a new plan for the day. This involved pretending the bus was 4WD and driving it down the seriously dodgy road to then lead us all through knee deep stagnant rainforest water! I demanded a ... read more

Day 5 - April 06 (636 km) From Streaky Bay SA to Eucla WA We are halfway over the Nullabor and have just entered WA country. We had to hand in all our vegies and fruit at the border. A lady went through all the back of the car and the caravan to ensure we had nothing hidden. 9 and ½ hours travelled today. We ate most of the fruit before we got there but not the salad so tonight needless to say we had sausages, steak and baked beans. Interesting!!! We found a Maisy on our travels check the photo out. Her name is Rosie and she is 7 years old. The kids were patting her all the time. We have to travel approx. 600 km’s tomorrow to our next stop otherwise we won’t make ... read more

As you can see, despite having only been in Oz for 4 days, I am already picking up the lingo. Well here we are in Darwin. Having been told by a couple of guys in Singapore that people only go to Darwin when they're on the run from the police or want to disappear, we are pleasantly surprised to find that Darwin is quite small and dull, and doesn't appear to be particularly infested with dangerous escapees... The main danger appears to be to out piggy banks - Australia is seriously expensive. We have been spoilt recently I guess with food being ridiculously cheap everywhere we've been, but the prospect of daily living costs here is plain scary!!! Our flight from Singapore was slightly more exciting than we might have liked, with a combination of us ... read more

Yes thats right guys it is Saturday and i am still in Darwin. Confused? Yep threw me a little too but hey ho. Remember that darned rain i told you about, well its only gone and flooded Katherine and most of the roads out of Darwin so my coach trip has been postponed until next week. One more week in darwin - oh ok i'll force myself then. Especially since all the rain is just in the surrounding areas and not in the city so its beautiful and sunny out right now. ho hum what will i do?? Went to the Northern Territory Museum and Art Gallery yesterday and really enjoyed it (and to think i would have missed it if it hadn't rained). Was also left a little freaked out though by the Cyclone Tracey ... read more
