Tonight we had tickets to see the musician Beth Orton at the St.Kilda Palais. I'd remembered in conversations with Caroline about the type of music that we enjoyed and she said Beth Orton was one of her favourite artists. I later realised in local music magazines that she was playing a one off concert in Melbourne and as she is a UK artist this one of both fortune and lucky coincidence so I managed to get a couple of tickets for us. We weren't dissapointed either. Having never heard her music before I was pleasantly surprised. Admittidely not my usual stuff I listen to but a collection of live band fold/female guitar music which was actually really rather good. We had a few drinks and a meal before hand and settled in to be enteratained for ... read more

I was lucky to have a couple of days in Brisbane. I have a lot of family who live there so was a good chance to catch up. I had already spent the previous day relaxing and walking around the shops. It was so nice to be in a place that has decent shops and good food. I decided to go and visit my aunty in a place called Ipswitch which is about forty five minutes away. Luckily our hotel is in a great location right above the central train station. So I jumped on a train and my aunty came and met me at the station and took me back to her house where we had lunch. We spent the afternoon catching up which was really nice. We then went and dropped by my other ... read more

So armed with a monster hangover- although I was incapable to get drunk last night even with downing copius varieties of different drinks, I was in work! Didnt mind though as was looking forward to our little camping trip away!!! Rushed to the Vic Market first to purchase some Uggs and a cozy wooly hat to keep both tootsies and head toasty warm!!!! Darren's Auntie and Uncle had let us borrow their car and camping equipment for the weekend...................... The car was packed up like we were going away for 2 months!!!!! It was a 3-4 hrs drive (which is nothing in Oz) we were all tired or hungover so it was a long drive and was still having birthday wishes phone calls from home...... had a lovely long chat to all of my nieces- so ... read more

We went through the famous dog fence which is a very long fence indeed. 9700km, keeping out all the Dingos from the sheep land. We were now aiming for our little oasis in the desert...Dalhousie Springs. Scott our tour guide told us that the spring wasn't very big, but he lied...for the good that is, as it was a great suprise to see this massive hot spring where we were camping. I couldn't believe how warm the water was, it got too hot for everyone in fact! The only down side to this beautiful place was the mosquitos...I used my 50% DEET spray but still got lots of bites, especially on my feet...... read more

Päästiin jo kolmen aikaan kotiin. ;) Töissä on tosi kiva Tim (Timppa näin suomalaisittain) ja se nauro meille tai nauratti meitä siinä iltapäivästä.. Illalla käytiin ostaan eväät, ku huomenna pitäs lähtee sinne Melbourneen..... read more

Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Melbourne » Philip Island April 21st 2006

Arrival was fast and easy. Took the shuttle into town. Found my hotel ok but reservation didn't work out so I found a map and wandered downtown to tourist info and booked a REALLY great place, a historical hotel right in the heart of all the action. Sigh...it's great! So far I've wandered around town lots. Took the free circle tram around town a couple of times. Strolled down the many (really cool!) alley ways and arcades the city if famous for and stopped along the way for an espresso or two (which they are also famous for). Yesterday I joined a tour to Philip Island. This was fun! First we went to a sanctuary where I got to tickle a wombat (their feet are ticklish!), pet a wallaby, feed a kangaroo, and (no moleste but) ... read more

Well what a couple of days I've been subjected to - carl did exaggerate a wee bit on the sleeping front around sydney - it was just 2min shut-eye to repower the batteries - but unfortunately he kept catching me out !!!!!!! Anyway - 2nd day of Oakey tours started well - packed up from our gorgeous downtown sydney hotel, picked up our hire car and headed into the blue mountains - it was fab althought the sudden whiplash moments of carl trying to remember he didn't have ... read more

Hey guys I have just got into Mission Beach after my first day on the Oz Experience Bus. Seems good so far although that darned cyclone is still causing problems but is expected to clear within the next day or two so i figured i would sit it out in Mission Beach as it seems really cool and relaxed here. Staying in a little place called scottys which has an incredible pool (hey i'm wet anyway right?) So anyway i though i would just post this one quickly to show you guys the photos you missed out on last time. So sit back, relax and enjoy the show.... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Gold Coast » Surfers Paradise April 21st 2006

We arrived in Surfers Paradise this morning and, so easy to backpack Australia, the hostel shuttle picked us up. Our hostel is I reckon on my top three of hostels so far: Trekkers, a bit far from the city, 20 some minutes to the beach but breakkie is included and it all looks nice.... Tomorrow night is Pub Crawl organized by the hostel so it will be pretty intense, especially with the two clowns I'm travelling with :) What's good about being 3 is that we can actually afford to eat good food....everything divided by three is so much better and Dali has just started his trip so he's got plenty of money ....hehehe So we keep having fun,e njoying the beach...the waves are really strong here, but I'm a bit of a wuss and I ... read more
