well this will probably be my last Ozzie blog entry...sniff sniff. Im super excited about ASIA, but I am going to REALLY REALLY miss Australia. We will be heading to ASIA on Sunday. Thats right Sunday.... So to wrap up the last few days...We are now back in Nowra trying to sell Spanky. This might not happen, but we are not really too worried about it. I have done many tres cool things here. None of them beat scuba diving. That is by far the coolest thing I have ever done. I am super sad to leave this place and I can say that I will for sure be back here one day. There are a few memorable things about this country that need mentioning. First off, besides the wicked beaches, surfing and awesome people, there ... read more

Currently sitting in Cairns, waiting for the remnants of Cyclone Monica to go away. Day 73 - Paluma (north of Bluewater beach) about 25 miles north of Townsville. This (and tomorrow) would be my only (relatively) rain free days of this stretch). Lots of mossies on this (reef encrusted, mangrove backed) beach. Day 74 - Forrest Beach Landed on a 'splashy' beach - this is the first beach - inside the reef - that I got broached on in landing. While planning tomorrows paddle inside the passage between Hinchinbrook and the mainland, I got talking to a sailor who advised me to go on the outside of Hinch. due to crocodiles in the area (some displaced from recent high water and cyclone Larry). (on a latter day, someone else told me the same thing) I changed ... read more

Just spent an hour writing this blog and managed to somehow delete it all - I am so annoyed so I'll write down the shorter version! Fraser Island was great, had the best few days. There were 11 of us in our group, Aoibhean from Island, Katie and Andrea from the US, Louise, Dan and Claire from the UK, Martin from Switzerland and Bianca and Patricia from Denmark. The day before we left we all met eachother and went out to the supermarket to stock up on food for the next few days with the suggested shopping list they gave us. The next day we woke up to the sound of rain and looked outside and it was pouring down! We were not impressed and had to then go outside where we were given our Suziki ... read more

Most people spend Easter break at the beach but we decided to head off the beaten track of the Australian Outbackā€¦.destination - WYANDRA. Wyandra is a very small remote town South West of Queensland. It is 12 hours drive to get there so we left really early in the morning. We used to live in Wyandra (for just over a year) and finished grade 12 (senior HS) in Charleville. We then moved to Brisbane after graduation to start University studies. As we reached Miles, a town halfway Wyandra, I relieved Jamie from driving and took over the wheel. There are quite a lot of trucks on the road driving slower than expected. There was this one truck hogging the road and blocking my view, so I decided to over take him on the narrow two ... read more

Hello peeps! Well its thursday and i'm in Cairns and it looks like that ruddy cyclone wants to join me. They have upgraded it to a category 4 (thats bad). Its heading for just above Cairns but that means that we are getting the tail end which means the weather is pretty shitty right now. Still nice and warm but it won't stop raining. So lots of indoor activities i guess! I got into Cairns on Monday after 4 days on the Desert Venturer. I'm really glad i did that instead of flying as i really got to see some of the remotest places in Australia. We set off pretty early in the morning (don't we always?) and headed out of Darwin to the Adelaide River Inn where we saw Charlie the Water Buffalo. (Charlie is ... read more

Two months ago, I changed my occupation. After countless years of student status, I've been promoted to research student. As a coursework student last year, I clocked my hours alongside my companionable classmates in the computer lab. We were a chatty mob who gradually acquired a haggard appearance from excessive multi-tasking-- attempting ludicrous feats such as Multiple Regression, Statistical Computing, and Job Hunting simultaneously. Much to my delight, the world of a research student has broader horizons with many more travel destinations. I still frequent my old haunt-- the building engraved School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine-- at Sydney University, and can be spotted ferrying up and down the staircase between my desk and the staff cappuccino maker at all hours of day. It's never long, however, before I have to tuck out the back ... read more
