We came back from 3 days on Fraser Island today. For those of you that don't know. Usually self drive 4x4 adventures on Fraser Island, means that you are randomly thrown together with another 10 random people, whom you have never met and have to make a series of decisions. These decisions are quite medicore really, like what to buy at the supermarket, how much meat to order, or how much alcohol to buy. But as most of you will know, living with someone at university or indeed your husband or wife, the negotiation involved in these decisions is vital if the friendship/relationship is to survive. Now imagine, a group of complete strangers trying to make these decisions- I feared that I had become the wicked witch already. Instead of having a group where people wanted ... read more

This track takes you through the Australian outback, passing through a few remote little villages/towns/suburbs whatever you want to call them... We stopped in one called Lyndhurst to say hello to this old man called Talc Alf. He uses this certain stone which when you rub it creates talcom powder to show everyone his philosophies and theories on a big black board. He's lived in this house in the middle of nowhere for 17 years and has come up with a theory that everything revolves around writing and certain words. He also had all these australian flags with the union jack part replaced by the aboriginal flag which I do actually agree with... It was so funny though when he would cough or sneeze as it would create this big cloud of talc...ahaha... Along the track ... read more

to follow up the leaving of Sydney, we visited the opera house and did a tour. the rooms are amazing, especially the orchestra room, you see 100 organ pipes, and there actually like 10,000... Later date, we went to the Ice Bar-Below 5C...just like home...tear... everything was made of ice, including the glasses we drank from. You could only stay in for 1/2 hour, but it was enough. The ice was actually imported from Canadia... Had my Birthday, tried to work a double, they wouldn't let me. Sat and had one.........after another....lol Heather had a minor Operation which she is ok. It kept us in Sydney and extra week, and gave us time to say our goodbye to co-workers and Joanne once again. Joanne bought a house. A lovely one in Balmain, and anyone who ... read more

Hey guys, After a very long and frustratingly boring flight, we finally arrived, both of us were very very tired. We thought we'd do whats best when you are tired and decided to walk for about 8 hours yesterday, going to the Aquarium and the opera house, which were both cool. Today we went to the Zoo which was awesome, and decided finally it would be a good idea to put our feet up for a bit. Weather has been hot and sunny so far. Take care Alan & Lizzy... read more

So what should have been a relaxing time in Christchurch turned into a rapid stressed affair whilst we tried to sell the car and sort things (mainly banking stuff) out for Oz. We managed to visit the Antarctica Centre but that was about all. So an uneventful flight led to Sydney arriving in the early evening - a dubious shuttle bus to Hotel 59 a nice friendly place although as we were to find out later that evening right in the middle of the red light district! At our first meal out we were greeted by "not even the Australians dare come here!. Anyway a few drinks later and a quality western meal of burger and chips sent us to bed early in anticipation of meeting Rachel and Peter the following morning. Woke to glorious sunshine ... read more

Arrived in Sydney after a steady 9 hour flight (2 hours of that unplanned for) confident in my ability to forge positive relationships with both the sheilas & Dwaynes alike. This was due to my wee chat with "stewie" the archetypal aussie who obliged by providing me with every necessary part of the oz dialect whilst sat on the tarmac. Nice & easy transfer to the hotel but obviously all that action on the flight meant The Princess had to go and suck dust for a few hours leaving me to go explore. Took me approx. 5 mins before I decided to just take a sneak at the property prices & check out the local Rugby scene. Remind me again why we live in England????? A real bonzer bloke filled me in with all the rugby ... read more

Exmouth Exposure Tour Day 1 - Perth to Kalbarri (1 night stay) Day 2 - Kalbarri to Denham in Shark Bay (6 night stay) Day 8 - Denham to Coral Bay (1 night stay) Day 9 - Coral Bay to Exmouth (3 night stay) This was one of our most favourite or maybe the most favourite experience of our travelling so far. It was excellent. We saw some amazing things, met some great people and definitely have fab memories we will never forget. On our way up to Kalbarri on the first day we visited the Pinnacles. Basically they are Limestone rocks that kinda grow from the ground. Some of them are about 4 metres high. Its a big tourist attraction here so it was worth seeing but Phil didnt seem to impressed 'They're just a ... read more

Well hello there everyone!!! Just to give you an update on what's been going on. Been pretty hectic this last week!!! Well we left New Zealand (very sad!) and rocked up in Sydney-well I think it was Sydney, or at least some part of the orient judging by all the locals!!!!! haha! It looked like life was going to be a breeze for us and that everything would fall in our lap! Erm...Hello?...Do we actually know ourselves???? Of course none of this was to be! Our dream house was about 4days of travelling out of town and no jobs were quite right. We were just feeling slightly depressed when an angel in the form of Mr Posh James (not just a clever name!)-a friend from home-managed to completely turn everything around!!! Bless him thanks to him ... read more

Hi all I know it's been a long time since I have blogged but we had the kids over to stay and had an absolute ball with them. The next week was spent recovering and then we had a break over Easter with every intention of updating the blog with lots of details and photos. Alas had a bit of a good time in Boyup Brook (find that in your atlas!) with a great bunch of square dancers and were all ready to hit the computer today. Unfortunately we got the bad news this morning that my mum, the famous Billie, was fading fast and then came the call this evening that she has finally gone to God. So we are in York about 100 kms east of Perth and have got a flight home tomorrow. ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Great Ocean Road April 18th 2006

I was picked up at 7:40 to go on a long day out along the Great ocean Road. The road was built after the first world war to link a number of seaside towns together, and was inspired by a similar road in California. Our first stopping point was world famous surf spot Bell's Beach, currently home to the Ripcurl Pro surfing tournament. The tournament wasn't running when we arrived, due to there being a lack of surf. This meant we got an unobscured view of the beach. I also came across an information sign in which a huntsman had set up home between the sign itself and the plastic covering - and somehow it still managed to move around in there! After Bell's we stopped at Anglesea for coffee before hitting the road proper. The ... read more
