Today we fly to Broome. It seems that the machine they use to x-ray the checked baggage at Kununurra airport isn’t working. No problem we’re told, they’ll do a visual inspection of one of our two bags instead - “a sample”. Hmmm. Terrorists and drug runners this way please. Just as well we packed all our explosives in the other bag. Most of the things in the "sample" bag they’ve picked are Issy's, so she’s shown into a back room with it by a burly security guard. She comes back out a few minutes later. She was expecting him to unpack everything and go over it with a fine tooth comb, but she says all he did was swab it like they usually do to your carry-on when they think you look a bit shifty and ... read more

Hello everyone. We hope you are all going great. The last few weeks have been a roller coaster of highs and lows…yet again, and I apologise for not writing earlier but it’s hard to write an interesting and witty blog when you are feeling down. We’ve had a run of good days so I’m in a better mood for writing…so here goes…. The last time I blogged we had finally encountered some sunshine at Kalbarri. We took this opportunity to visit Nature’s Window, Skywalk and Z-Bend trail at Kalbarri National Park. Really wonderful part of the world. We had to share our sunrise at Nature’s Window with a camera and production crew of 3 who were making this tiny slip of a girl hang off the edge of sheer cliffs while making a commercial for Japan ... read more

I have been quite slack in writing stuff down so a few things are out of order, but you'll get the gist. The drive back to Broome was moderately uneventful. Just wanted to get in and set up camp, grab some tucker and some food. Actually, I think this was the day that Amy, Suz, Jen and Phil did the camel ride on Cable Beach. By all reports it was quite scenic but there were sore butts and legs all round. Went for a drive on the (Cable) beach this morning. Wow! Great beach with the most blue water ever, but missing that darker blue channel we were looking for just off the beach that might hold something a bit fishy. From there we did a little sightseeing down to the port (closed due to a ... read more

So tonight was a first. Had to dry myself, after a shower, with my dirty clothes. Outside of the boxers for head and face and the inside of the shorts for the remainder. No, I was not out bush short of clothes, nor was there an emergency. I was simply too lazy to walk back to the camp (60m) to get the towel I forgot. No doubt Bear Grylls would have fashioned a towel out of a local crocodile and a twig (or was that McGyver) but I was too tired to bother. Suz is not amused. Or is she. I'll hear later on, no doubt. Today saw a thing we have not seen for a while - bitumen. "Oh tarmac how I love thee". After weeks of corrugations to have 70km odd of bitumen was ... read more

This is the third time I've attempted to write this post. We arrived in Port Hedland and found an Auto Electrician to check the battery. Cost me $90 , and all I got was a couple of 30amp fuses and a bit of advice. Still had the problem with the fridge so found a fridge repairer. He pulled it apart and rang the supplier in Melb. They sent out a part to repair it. So after 4 days in a very nice wayside camp we come back to pick it up only to find out that it was some other problem which would cost a whole lot more to fix. Almost as much as buying a new fridge, which we did.. Spent 3 more days at the campsite as we needed to save up some money ... read more

It was time to say good bye to Derby. I had a quick cuddle with the French Bulldog across the way. His owner is travelling by herself apparently he sits up front in his seat belt and retires to the lounge when he’s had enough. Wilko has told me that a side effect of the gray nomad boom is the Windorah Widow. A female who has been married to a fellow gray nomad finds herself widowed. Once she buries Reg in the Windorah caravan park she discovers that she doesn’t know who to couple up the caravan and is now destined to spend the rest of her life in the Windorah caravan park 500m from Reg’s grave. At least that’s one less vanner on the highway. Becs and I popped in to the Norvall gallery in ... read more

DAYS FOURTEEN AND FIFTEEN This morning we had a pickup for a tour of the town of Broome where we had started our tour. After looking at the dinosaur footprint site and other landmarks we were dropped in town. We wandered around and then had a coffee before we departed for our tour of Horizontal Falls. We were dropped at the airport for our flight on a seaplane. The flight takes 50 minutes over the Dampier Peninsula and King Sound. We land on the calm waters of Talbot Bay. When we boarded the boat we had a lunch of BBQ barramundi and salads. Then it was time for our boat tour through the falls . It was fast and bumpy and exhilarating. The falls are created by the 2nd largest tides in the world and create a ... read more

Thursday 15th September 2016 Today we revisited Kununurra. We drove to the town centre and then looked through the aboriginal art centre, the outdoor camping shops, the Argyle diamond shops, Coles, and any other that we came across. Not a lot seemed to have changed since we did the same 5 years ago. There is now a new self-serve diesel pump available for public use just out of town and we took advantage of the 15 cents/litre price difference to the town outlets. The afternoon was spent in the resort pool, where we were joined by several of the campers adjoining us. The temperature of the pool water was perfect and with the shade-cloth sails above the pool, it made for a pleasant dip in-between reading our books. Friday 16th September 2016 Today we decided to ... read more

Wow, well we have done soooo much stuff since I last blogged I have got a lot to tell you. I will do it in 2 blogs so this is part 1 last day in Broome plus I added some photos of the Sun picture house. So our last day in Broome we splashed out lots of money to do the seaplane horizontal falls tour. Basically we took a seaplane from Broome airport that flew low level up to Beagle Bay and then all across the Dampier peninsula up to the fixed jetty complex in a bay in Cyclone Creek. We flew over many humpback whales and also took a low pass over the horizontal falls before landing on the water and docking at the base. This base was a mixture of Thunderbirds Tracey island and ... read more

So this blog has no photos. I will tell you why later and then we will have a brief pause to mourn. So we arrived at Karijini earlyish and still the campground was full! This was annoying and then we found the overflow campground. This was a free for all, no layout place. It also featured an assortment of Winibago type motor homes that make me think the circus has come to town.So we found a corner and set up the swags, we had a lovely outlooks of caravans. No campfires meant a dull evening and an early night and I was lulled to sleep by generators.Everyone seemed to wake up at 5:30 to start packing up and race to the queue to get into the proper campground. Having looked at it we decided to forget it, ... read more
