Shopping all morning (had to get our bearings) then met up with Wendy at the station in the afternoon. We got her settled in the hostel (which is 5 seconds walk from the station!) Then we went for a bit of a walk in Botanic Gardens. We thought we'd found the open air cinema, but we asked about it when we got back to the hostel and apparently an open air hostel doesn't even exist. Well done Skinny! hehe! We felt like going out that night, so we got our flip flops on, did a lot of walking to find some place lively and half decent, but no where let us in with flip flops on. so we walked alllllll the way back again... read more

Kayla and I are currently in Noosa Heads. We had a small bus ride from Brisbane which wasnt too bad at all. We bought a bus pass for 200 dollars traveling with Greyhound Australia. Its really neat becuase we can make as many stops as we want inbetween Brisbane and Cairns. We had chosen to stop at Noosa , Rainbow Beach , Hervey Bay ( for Fraser Island) , then take a 12 hour bus ride all the way to Airlie Beach where we will book our sailing trip to the Whitsunday Islands. Kayla and I are most excited for this , all our fellow travelers have pumped us up and spoken about how lovely this trip is. Beautiful Scenery , scuba diving along the Barrier Reef. We are staying at the Koala Hostel in Noosa ... read more

We spent the day today down at the Reef HQ, Townsville's own aquarium which was awesome. It features a huge tank with hundreds of coral reef, fish and predators in including sharks, sting rays and green sea turtles. It was a stunning visit where I was able to take some pretty cool photos as hopefully you will agree. Mike... read more

Today we met up with Sean and Emma (from our Fraser trip) and we headed to Eumundi Markets (largest market in Queensland). Just as we arrived on the bus the heavens opened up! The first stop was the pac a mac man. I got a fetching XXL lilac rain coat to my ankles and Andy got a dashing royal blue knee length number! He ripped the first one so we said it was ripped and took it back! We had a wander around the market for a couple of hours. Lots of nice things. I got a ring and an anklet! Andy got nothing. As you can see from the photo we were still looking for funny signs. The market started to close at one, so we went over to the bus stop to catch the ... read more

Bus at 8am, straight to so called 'Rainbow Beach' named beacuse it has over 70 different colours, but all i saw was one sand colour and a strange looking grey - not pretty at all! Our bus driver, Claire, took us to the beach to tell us all about aboriginal culture. But it started to rain. So we moved. She told us about the culture and iv forgotten it already but we tried to play a didjaridoo (no idea how to spell that!) Neither me or Skinny could coz we kept laughing! We were also hungry, so we had lunch, and then had a go with a child proof boomerang! That didnt really work either. So we made our way to the Sunshine coast, the start being Noosa, were we stopped for a couple of hours. ... read more

Fruit from Rustys was my hangover cure, and I was soon in town booking up a string of activites and transportation down the east coast. At 13:00 I made my way across to the offices of my dive tour operator Explorer Ventures and met my new cabin mates: Kim, Lizette, Maddo, Jo, Magnus and Mikaela - all of whom seemed really nice. After introductions and coffee we were whisked off to Cairns airport for our transfer flight to Cooktown. We were loaded up into 7 seater Shrike Commander aircraft, and were soon flying low over the reefs and rainforests on the way up to Cooktown. It was a spectacular flight - not quite as low as dad flies, but altitude never topped 1000ft even over the mountains. The Turbulence was incredible over the rainforests, and the ... read more

Hi readers! Our next stop was Airlie beach, from here we did our trip around the Whitsundays. Airlie beach was a nice place, a few restaurants and good bars. We met up with our crew from Fraser Island on the first night and had a great time, us girls even sang karaoke! We recovered the next day and went and relaxed by the swimming area in Airlie (you can't swim in the water in the beaches up the east coast because there are box jellyfish which can kill you in a matter of minutes if you get stung!). After an early night we were all ready for our sailing trip. The sailing trip, well what can I say, its a long story... The Whitsundays are a group of over 70 islands on the east coast and ... read more

Up at 7am today, half the tent flat on my face and boiling hot. I was still dying for the toilet as i had waited all night! Once we finally got to the showers there was a huge queue, and later on we had to have one of the bossy Canadian girls come in and tell us to hurry up! wasn't our fault!! The hot water was a dollar for every 3mins, so I decided just to have a cold one instead. It was a trek to Lake Wabby. We had to walk a LONG way down hill to the Lake and dreaded the walk back(about 1.2km). The Lake itself was very green, and the sand dunes were so big it looked like desert. Nothing like Lake McKenzie, so we didnt stay there long and went ... read more
