Hello, After the whitsundays tour we made our way up to Mission Beach which was where we took part in the white water rafting. We were picked up around 7.30 in the morning and driven to the main base where we grabbed some breakfast and got our briefing. Within about half an hour we were on a coach being driven through the mountains to the top of the course. The sites were once again amazing and we were told that the course we were rafting through was actually surrounded by the oldest, untouched rainforest in world! The coach journey was long but when we arrived we spared no time in getting our life jackets on and getting in the water. There were seven of us and we all managed to get in the same raft together ... read more

We booked a tour to The Great Barrier Reef from Cairns and got a complimentary day on a 'coral cay' called Green Island. We actually stopped off at Green Island on the way out to the reef on the first day. It was probably one of the worst days to do the trip as the sea was very choppy and lots of the other tourists on the boat were throwing up (lovely!). It was also choppy at Green Island so we decided not to snorkel as the visibility wasn't very good. However as we were on the beach the lifeguard set off his siren and orders everyone out the water. Jason ran over to be nosey and saw a young crocodile was swimming to the beach. This apparently has never happened before at the island and ... read more

Well today saw us pass the 14,000km barrier on our ozzie road trip. Quite something in just over 3 months! We set of from Townsville this morning to begin the trip up to Cardwell, our overnight stop on route to Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef! On route we drove 28km up a winding mountain side to a village on the summit called Paluma. During this treck we stopped off at Little Crystal Creek falls and then travelled further up to the rock slides, a large stream of water which has eroded away at the surrounding rocks creating a natural water slide. To be honest it looked a little dangerous to me, but Oli went in and had a go while i just took a splash in the pool area which was refreshing and well worth ... read more

I caught the bus up to the huge Botanical Gardens out of the city in Mt Coot-tha reserve. The gardens seemed a little dry but then Queensland is having drought problems....a number of the fountains in the city have been temporarily deactivated. The planetarium was closed but the fern hous, Japanese garden adn highly comical Bonzai house were entertainment and relaxation enough after all my action in Byron. Mt Coot-tha provided stunning panoramas of the whole city and valley, looking back towards Byron and on towards the gold coast. The evening held more intrigue as i used my day pass from the bus on the City Cat boat that runs along the river. I caught it in the south bank parklands and cruised along to the Riverside Centre from which i meandred up to china town ... read more

Luksus til mutti her. ... read more

We were up bright and early, excited at our next adventure, we were going to spend the night in a bush camp followed by 3 days and 2 nights camping in the bush. The Everglades. One of only 2 in the world. Sean and Emma poped by to say their goodbyes which was nice. Then the rush started! As we were both so tired last night we still had to go and get our 4 days supplies from the supermarket, so it was all systems go! We got the free bus into Noosa Heads, then got the free courtesy bus to our new home. You should have seen it! Our first reactions were COOL! (We get criticised for using this word too often but stuff it) This was a REAL bush camp! and it immediately gave ... read more

sharky, the boats hostess, woke us at 6:30 am ready for the 7:00 dive - 100km out to sea! The sea was pretty rough and I was glad to get under the water and actually start diving. I buddied up with Kim, who had at that point only dived 4 times and had gained her open water certification, and Lizette who had logged a similar number of dives to me. We saw a few big fish including some massive potato cod and 3 or more reef sharks. The second dive of the day was to the same site - but this time we took down a box with cut up pilchards in it to feed the cod. They would come up to the box, and then dart forwards with their huge mouths wide open to gulp ... read more

Brisbane is great, I spent today wandering round the place exploring the botanical gardens and the south bank parklands....a big green blur on the south side of the river with a man made lagoon and sandy beach thronging with locals and tourists on this glorious sunday afternoon....baking hot. Took some respite from the sun and explored the markets at Stanley street. I crossed back over the river in to the city and back to the hostel, which is nice a clean, friendly and welcoming...the mixed shower facilities are a little unorthodox but hey no complaints...they're clean! Having glimpsed Brisbane at night i decided to take a proper look and headed out, camera in hand and found the Riverside Centre with its posh restaurants and glittering lights affording beautiful views of Story Bridge...lit along its length and ... read more

12.03.06~ Well we were up bright and early this morning ready for our day out at Australia Zoo...home of the crocodile hunter-Steve Irwin! Before we left we said a very quick goodbye to Mel & Andy as they were heading up north today! It took about an hour on the coach to get to the zoo, where we got to watch Steve Irwins life story. The Zoo was much bigger than we expected and we got to see loads of animals including Kangaroos, Dingoes, the tasmanian devil and even Koalas...which i finally got to hold-so cute!! 15.03.06~We arrived in Brisbane a couple of days ago, and as Sean had been here before he got in touch with the friends he'd stayed with (Phil & Nan) and they invited us over. We caught the bus into logan ... read more
