Arrived late ish in the evening to absolute torrential rain. I was staying in the Islander Backpackers, which was $30 a night for a 4 dorm share.  Maybe it was the rain, I dunno, but I just wasn't feeling this place at all.  Byron was so different in comparison, Surfers was like a mini Vegas and due to the weather you couldn't really do much. After a rather restless sleep, it was pretty humid and there was lots of noise coming from outside all throughout the night, I went out about 9am to go and pick up my iPad.  After getting back soaked, I met up with Debs and Caz at Pacific Fair, which I am reliably informed is the biggest shopping centre in the southern hemisphere. The place was just over the top. I was ... read more

So it's been 4 days since i left Byron Bay (didn't do the bike ride in the end Dean!!!) and I still want to go back! Surfers Paradise was cool but a bit too much like Benidorm, don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with Benidorm and Sticky Vicky but you dont expect to come across that sort of resort all the way over here! Thought the Aussies were a bit more sophisticated!!! Went to Movie World, Wet n Wild and Sea World in Surfers and didnt have a single drop of alcohol, still letting my liver recover after the bashing it took after my 16 hour session the other day! Arrived in Brisbane last night, thought it would look a bit battered after the floods but it doesn't at all (in case anyone wanted to ... read more

We got up at a silly time of the morning and took Dad to work before carrying on to the highway and down to Surfers Paradise. We got to Seaworld at roughly 09:40 and it took us about 10 minutes to get in as the queues were quite long. We first went into the penguin house and there was a really friendly inquisitive penguin who came right up to the glass to see us. A lot of people came in just after us and it got too crowded so we left and went to see the other penguins who were outside as they are native to Australia. Then we went to see the polar bear who was wandering around above the water. There were a lot of people there to, so we went to the underwater ... read more

Nu har vi antligen kommit in i Queensland, rattare sagt Surfers Paradise. Har ar det varmare an nagon annanstans i Australien. Just nu rinner svetten ganska bra.

A lot of people I met were missing Surfer's Paradise out and I can see why as the place is aimed for the Australian holiday makers. The beach was nice and the waves were big for the people that wanted to surf. Again didn't do all that much. Sun bathed the first day and walked around and eventually going out with some peeps from the hostel. Next day the usual happened, it rained. Therefore didn't do that much, read, watched tv. I think my cooking is getting better and I cooked myself a chicken curry (not very spicey or many ingredients).... read more

Hello Greetings from Surfers Paradise. When leaving Sydney on Monday the sky was overcast. But when the aeroplane was starting it's descent into Coolangatta airport it was clear that the weather was much better here than in Sydney. Welcome to Australia's Gold Coast. Arrival procedures went smooth and so after having picked up my new suitase I hopped on bus 702. On the way to Surfers Paradise we passed by some really nice beaches. But thé place to be at Australia's Gold Coast is Surfers Paradise. Surfers Paradise (http://www.surfersparadise.com/) is not only a great place to surf, but it has everything to please the tourists : beaches, lots of shopping malls, lots of entertainment possibilities and of course lots and lots of possibilities to indulge yourself with delicious food. Hello Everybody This update is being written on Jetstar's JS 410 flight from Sydney to the Gold Coast. And it is being written on Valentine's day. The Ipod plays the soundtrack of Glee and the flight is progressing smoothly. Excellent choice of airline if I may say so myself. After having travelled around for a bit over a week, it is time now to relax a bit. I have chosen to spend 3 nights in Surfers Paradise at the Goldcoast, in the state of Queensland. 3 days to relax, hit the beach and read a book. It is Valentine's Day : can one be in love with a city?! Yesterday's return to Sydney was unbelievable. The feelings inside are hard to describe but I think they come very close to being in love :o) When Kevin ... read more

We woke up bright and early as we were excited about going to the water park. They market themselves as the biggest and best in Auz so even though the kids were still of school we couldn’t miss it. We had a quick breakfast and left early so that we could be first in line. When we arrive it looked like a lot of people had the same idea as us - the queue was massive. They let people in early and the queue soon died down. We threw our stuff into the locker and went in search of the first slide of the day. On our way round we noticed that many of the rides slides we closed for maintenance. The rides that were open were the tame slides and because around a third of ... read more

Soon after the last blog the sun came out in full force so we set off walking along the beach. We walked 4km from Broadbeach to the centre of Surfers Paradise. There were signs on the beach which said there were marine stingers in the water, so we had a one person in the sea at any one time policy in case one of us was stung and the other had to run for help. We headed for My Oliver’s Kitchen, as this was rated number 1 of the 91 restaurants in Surfers on Trip Advisor. I got fish and chips for under 7 dollars (around £4 which is cheap for Australia!), and Oli got the seafood basket for $15. This was more much our kind of food and price than what we found in restaurants ... read more

Hey all! Just a quick update to let you know that we are safe just stuck in Surfers Paradise due to the flooding north and south of us. There is no flooding here though and we figure there are worse places to be stranded! it does look like we will now be going to NZ a little earlier and missing out on Fraser Island but at least we are not under water! Hope you are all well and we will update properly soon. Take care love Sam and James xxx... read more
