Day 3 Leave woodstocky Byron and move on to Surfers Paradise. Our hostel here is much better! I laughed when w first arrived because here we are in Australia's version of Miami; a sizzling hot ity on the beach and our hostel fit right in. This bright pink building with an attitude and "Islander Backpackers" tattooed down the side of the building. It was also conveniently located next to a liquor store or as they say here "bottle shop." We check in, go to our room, and lo and be hold we meet Dennis the Menice: our hostel mate! Imagine this awkward, plump, German guy in tighty whites and an over sized t-shirt that hardly speaks any English. Elizabeth ad I realize right away that he's going to bee a nuisance so we immediately diverge a ... read more

The truth is officially dead. not, the actual truth of course, that all depends which way you look at it. i mean 'the truth', our campervan. (we didnt name it by the way, it came with that name and refused to change it.) i will explain more later, right now il get back to the last couple days. one day in brisbane was enough for us, lovely city, although damn expensive, but really hectic, and we're in beach bum mode, citys are frightening to us at the moment...... We got back on the road and headed for the signs which read'gold coast'. This is what we've all been looking forward to for a while now, and surfers paradise, our first stop on the gold coast did not dissapoint. the beach is just endless, and the skyscrapers ... read more

13th December, DF make it to Brisbane or if you are called Luke, Scott or Mikey 'Brissie' :) A lovely City, and we were blessd with sunshine. One day was enough for us however as the place was extremely expensive (I mean $11 dollars for 1/2 an hours parking. For my English friends this is around 8 pounds for 1/2 an hour!) The expense still didn't stop us on the food fronts - we invested in a lovely Subway and hit the road .... Can I just confess, this keyboard is ultra s*%t - so sorry for the spelling errors! 16:00 and we got back on the road and headed for the signs which read the 'gold coast'. This is what we've all been looking forward to for a while now, and surfers paradise, our first ... read more

Paradise was a little bit of a disappointment to be honest. We had so many expectations but they didn’t fully materialise. We did have the most amazing accommodation though. We booked ourselves into a one bedroom apartment which turned out to be a jewel! From our grand balcony, we were looking onto the main road before hitting the ocean. It was great to finally spend some days putting our clothes into a cupboard and not living out of our bags. It felt even better having the freedom to cook in our own kitchen what we liked and in peace! I really cannot fault the accommodation in anyway. The complex had their own pool, spa and mini gym so was a great holiday home. Surfers Paradise is like the Costa’s of Spain – theme parks, shopping malls ... read more

Well, its been a long time since I've updated (mainly due to the remote places I've been in the last little while!). Had a great time in Cairns again. I went on another reef tour with the Contiki group which was actually a lot better than the first one. It was more what I was expecting to see: big coral reef shelves with big drop offs and TONS of fish swimming around. We saw a neat one called a Mauri Wrasse and I got a great professional underwater picture taken with one. It is really neat looking. It was about a meter long and really fat with giant lips and a bulbous head. I'll try to upload it later. From Cairns we went to the Whitsundays islands. We stayed on an island called Daydream island and ... read more

4/11/10 - Surfers Paradise Off to some themes parks today. We paid for a pass for Dream World and White Water World. It started raining while we were on the bus heading to the parks. We started in Dream World and were like kids in a sweet shop with the choice of rides to go on. I suggested we try the first ride we came to which was called The Claw and was like a giant swing that spun around, it was amazing and I felt my stomach being left behind with each swing. Bobby started the ride giggling like a child then went deathly quiet, it turned out that it unsettled his stomach a bit too much, maybe we shouldn't have gone out last night, mwah ha ha ha! After a couple of roller coasters, ... read more

Having lots of fun with Jamie still in Surfer's Paradise! Unfortunately this is my last day here with him. Yesterday was beautiful so we spent the day at the beach. We swam in the waves and played on a boogie board for the whole morning. While we were swimming there was a big lifeguarding competition going on around us and they had helicopters flying really low filming the race. Pretty neat! Saw the televised version on TV today, but we didn't manage to get 15 minutes of fame haha! Today Jamie and I went for a hike through the rainforest up Mount Warning which was in New South Wales. It was absolutely beautiful! The rainforest was amazing... full of giant trees called Booyang trees as well as tons of giant fig trees and palms. Oh and ... read more

Made it to Australia safe and sound and have already filled my time with new and exciting things! The plane ride was a long one (26 hours in total) but it actually seemed to go by pretty quickly. I watch 2 full movies and half of two others. It was difficult to read on the plane because they kept it dark and most people tried to sleep. I had about 5 hours of sleep in total which I thought was pretty good. Then we were getting close to Australia (we were about 2 hours out of Brisbane) and then the captain came on and told us we did not have the legal amount of fuel to reach the destination. Huh? So we actually had to land at a french island called "Noumea" where we fuelled up. ... read more

1st November - Hostel: Couple O' Days Price: $64 per night Room: Double, fan, wardrobe, mirror Review: 6/10 - A bit run down, wouldn't want to cook in the kitchen and rooms smelt a bit funky. Pros: Cheapest double you will probably find in Surfers Paradise. The free meal was a roast dinner, wasn’t too bad but you only got one roast potato?! We were still hungry after (as per) so we got a chicken satay box from Noodle Box - was really nice but a little spicy. Anyway, that night we went down to the Halloween partyat the hostel and had a drink and played some pool with the others. Everyone else staying in the hostel was dressed up som people looked really good - someone even dressed up as Optimus Prime from Transformers lol he ... read more
