Kerry was hoping to take the tour to see the coloured sands unfortunately we arrived too late and missed it! 18/01/2010 We are due to catch the bus to Hervey Bay today so we spent the morning relaxing on the beach - with so much time we hired a surf board for 2 hours. This seemed a good idea at the time until . . . Rob returned looking rather pale! My initial reaction was OMG have you hurt yourself - he finally spoke only to tell me he had got in the water not realising he had his sunglasses on and he knew something was wrong when a family shouted ‘hey I just saw something orange go past’ - Yep Rob had lost his brand new prescription Oakley sunnies to the ocean! Can anything else ... read more

Day 68 - Tin Can Bay / Rainbow Beach So, it was agreed, we would get up at 6.30 to go and feed the dolphins in the bay. Why was it then that we were both wide awake at 4.30?! And then, just as we were dropping back off to sleep the dawn chorus struck up and that was the end of that! Morning!! We jumped on the bikes and headed in the direction of the Yacht Club to catch the morning dolphin feeding which a group of volunteers have been doing for years and years and years! We’re not quite the first ones there, the dolphins, a volunteer and a couple of other people have beaten us to it! Mystique and Harmony are today’s father and son dolphins! They think Mystique is about 17 years ... read more

Feeling tired and a bit weary this morning after our late night shenanigans yesterday. To top it off, the weather hasn’t improved which leaves us in a dilemma. We don’t know whether to continue on with our 2 day Noosa kayaking tour or not. We check the weather forecast for the next few days and it pretty much confirms it will be torrential rain and thunderstorms. Greg phones the tour guide to see what he suggests and he tells Greg rather rudely that basically we can either do it in the rain or cancel without refund. We figure as we don’t have any waterproofs and you can’t really hold an umbrella while kayaking we should cancel the tour. We got it for free anyway so we aren’t losing any money, but it’s still a shame as ... read more

After spending a nice couple of days relaxing in Agnes Water. The Oz Ex took me down the road to a quaint little place on the East Coast that goes by the name of Rainbow Beach. Home to probably more backpackers and holiday homes than actual residents, it feels fractured and un-centered. The main business in this town is four wheel drive hire for those intrepid explorers that want to gallivant along the sands of Fraser Island. Though Fraser can also be reached from Hervey Bay, it is Rainbow that is closer and more synonymous with the World's largest sand island. The town is spread out and has about as much character and charm as a lamppost, with everything closing a little after the sun has set. Still for a couple of days it shouldn't be ... read more

Thought i'd better write a blog and keep everyone up to date cos i've not been here for a bit. I flew down to Sydney from Brisbane on 7th April to meet my Dad and Elaine. We stayed in Sydney for a few nights in a nice little guest house at Potts Point which is beside Kings Cross. This place was luxury to me! I had a single room all to myself. I thought i might take bad being in a room on my own since i hadn't done that since October but it was brilliant! I was the tour guide and lets just say we pretty much covered everything and dad and elaine were shattered by the end of the first day! We then flew done to Melbourne to visit family. My uncle Ian lives ... read more

TIN CAN BAY _ DOLPHIN FEEDING We took a drive up to Tin Can bay when Jaquie was visiting us on holiday as we had heard that you can feed the wild dolphins early in the morning so off we went to do just this. we booked into the campground and had Fish and Chip shop for dinner eaten out under the sky/shelter as it started to rain on us. but it was lovely and really not that cold. We all snuggled down for the night and then got up early to wal the 100 metres to the small jetty to see and feed the dolphins. Whenwe got to the jetty, there was only a couple of people there was all chatted to the guides and slowely the family of dolphins came in to greet us. ... read more

We decided to stay in Rainbow Beach because that was the town we were going to be picked up in for our tour of Fraser Island. It was a rainy evening but that didn't stop us from going to the beach. Rainbow Beach was given that name because of it's colourful sands. There is an aboriginal legend of the rainbow serpent. On our walk we saw some surfers and finally got to swim in the ocean ourselves( now that we're further south and the water temperature is colder the box jellyfish are dying off). After our swim it started to pour and we spotted some rainbows. Which was ironic because we were in RAINBOW BEACH. ... read more
