Congratulations Queenie! Apparently it was the Queens official birthday on 8th June 2008. How do i know this? Because the good old Australian Nation has a day off for the Queens Birthday so it was off to Rainbow Beach for the long weekend. We left Brisbane, along with everyone else, on Friday evening and had the usual snarl of traffic for the first 30km out of the City then nothing! Everybody seems to dissipate into the infinate surroundings when you reach the city limits and all everything goes silent, apart from the voice behind the Satalite Navigation that we were stupidly placing our trust in! I say stupidly, as what do Sat Nav's ensure they achieve? They get you from A to B via the shortest possible route in the fastest possible time! So to give ... read more

Waheyyy....the weather is starting to clear up! AT LAST.....it really is about blooming time!!hehe There's not really much to report from here as yet......back in Noosa we never got as far as going to the Zoo as the weather was truely awful and it's mostly outside which is rather sad...still another reason to return to Oz! :P hehe To be honest I didn't really see that much of Noosa at all (other than the main town) as it was pointless going outside unless you wanted a shower that lasted longer then 4mins (water restrictions on showers suck over here!!) I did like Noosa however, and would love to go back there in more welcoming weather someday!!hehe So far here in Rainbow we have walked up and down the street that is this place!!lol It's quite cute, ... read more

Cattle Ranch Afte hours and hours of passing vast lands of nothing but trees and grass we arrived in a small cattle ranch in the middle of no where. The ranch itself was surrounded by dusty sandy fields of goats and obviously cattle. There were several wooden lodges for sleeping, eating and there was even a small shack which was the bar. The bar had an injured parrot that couldnt fly and it would walk up and down climbing on the beer taps and squarking. We were also introduced to the cattle ranch owner who cooked us up goat, soup, mash and beef for dinner. We were then taught how to break the speed of sound with a whip; this was extremely funny as everyone kept accidently whipping themselves or others. Nick couldn't do it and became ... read more

Unfortunately, we only got the chance to spend one night here, as we had already made our booking for Noosa (the next place on our trip), but if we had had a little more time, we definitely would have spent more time here. On our arrival, we were showed to our hostel by a friendly rep, and we immediately took a liking to the place! That evening we headed up to the Carlo Sandblow to see the sun set over the dunes - it was pretty spectacular I have to say, although it got cold really quickly once the sun had gone down! In the morning, we decided to do some dolphin feeding, so we got up at some unearthly hour and sailed from Rainbow Beach to Tin Can Bay, where they feed dolphins every morning. ... read more

Didn't think it rained much in Oz, but it does, and it's bigger and wetter rain here, and it seems to come without any warning. We've been chilling in our orange van, here at the lovely Rainbow Beach, sitting out the rain... '...Day 19 in the Big Brother Stupid Van: Captain Airwofl is rolling fags and now has a tidy store of 346 emergency smokes under his pillow. Pikey Pat's winning so far in the 'Grow A Hunchback' game, but Wofl's got a lead in the 'Cover Up The Holes On The Van Ceiling & Walls' sticker game as he eats more fruit...' ...We've seen a few 'Hippy Campers' around Rainbow and they look like newer vans with definitely better conversions inside - fridge, 240v hook up, kettle... and not that much dearer looking at the ... read more

Hi everyone! So, I arrived safely in Rainbow beach. I was a bit dissapointed cos the beach has been ruined from all the bad weather they have had here, so we didn't get to see the multi coloured sand :o( Its a really nice place here, very quiet but nice. On Tuesday morning we got up very early 6.15am!!!! It was worth it though cos we got a boat over to Tin Can Bay and hand fed wild Dolphins!!! It was amazing! There was a little family of them. They just come over for some food and attention. The ones who came over were called Mystique and Harmony. They were beautiful! It has been really rainy here since we got here, but still warm. Yesterday raind for a bit in the morning, but then it was ... read more

After settling in we went to explore the small but very pretty town! We came across a camel tour and decided to see what that was like! We went on a camel trek along Rainbow beach which was great fun. I was on the leader camel called Galieth and Neil was behind on Gobie. The trip was very cheap as it was only the second trip for the camels on the beach (as the owner and camels had moved location) so as we were on our tour high up on the camels the owner mentioned that we were the guinea pigs!! But it was all ok as the camels behaved and it was a very funny experience!! The next day after spending the morning on what seemed like our own private beach as there was noone ... read more

The most spectacular thing about Rainbow Beach was not the beach itself, but an incredible sand dune we walked to. I've never seen anything like it; it's like walking into a desert that meets the sea yet engulfs the forest. It was quite spectacular.... read more
