Hi all! I think the last I worte was about Noosa, that seems like a lifetime ago! I went to Rainbow Beach from there as I'd heard it was a really nice place and I had 2 days to chill before going to Fraser Island. Unfortunately the weather was pretty rubbish and other than a beach there is literally NOTHING to do in Rainbow! The days seemed to last forever, I read 5 trashy magazines that the cleaner gave me out of sympathy, watched films that the pitying hostel put on and generally waited, it was painful! However, then there was Fraser Island!!! I was quite worried about what my group would be like but they were great! There was a lovely fellow yorkshire lass who was my age, 2 irsish guys a similar age ... read more

Hello Everybody, Still having an amazing time travelling up the coast... When I last emailed you I was in an Internet cafe which was also a backpacker travel agent. We then ended up booking a self drive tour 3 days 2 nights on Fraser Island which is the largest sand island in the world. So we then got in the car and drove to Rainbow Beach. Rainbow beach was a really small town with a population of about 1000, probably half of which are backpackers. When we arrived we parked along the road with all the hostels and cooked up some dinner before going into the hostel where we would be staying in a couple of nights and having a couple of drinks, our fraser tour came with 2 nights in a hostel included. The next ... read more

You know that feeling you get when you turn up at a swanky party looking all glam and dressed to kill? And then you spot another partygoer with the same frock as you? The shame, the embarrassment, the outrage. Well, imagine the feeling when we turned up at our Noosa campsite only to find someone with the same A$13 tent as us. In the same yellow and red colour scheme too. Outrageous. Well, we recovered enough dignity to still enjoy ourselves over the last few days. Started off on Monday saying goodbye to our very good host Emma and heading North. Got to our first stop of the day at Yatala. It was simply to stock up for lunch. Yatala is home to a famous pie shop (plus a big pie - about 3m tall) so ... read more

One of the cheapest ways to explore the east coast is to use the Greyhound bus service. To save time we opted for the overnight bus, which left at 8pm and arrived at midday the following day. This is probably not the best way to get a good nights' sleep, as every 2 hours or so we had to stop, to get out stretch legs etc. It felt like a long journey especially as to start off the journey the girl behind Nick was fidgeting intensely. Once this stopped a girl at the front decided to have a conversation with the driver - this ensured the driver was kept awake but it also ensured the rest of us were kept awake too! The following day we arrived at Dingo's hostel, Rainbow Beach and checked into our ... read more

We were only in Rainbow beach for 2 nights . ... we checked into Dindo's backpackers late when the bus arrived....it was really good cos we met up with Louise, Charlotte and Megan there and we hadn't seen them for a while. We also met Megan's Boyfriend Chris who was class and loved playing pool and football and messing around just as much as Ant does!! Chris was only out to visit Megan for 2 weeks but it ment he could do the Fraser Island trip with us anfd do a bit of the East Coast! Unfortuantly the main thing to see in Rainbow Beach is th Carlos Sandblow which is a massive 120metre high sand dune...but it was closed for nature work to be done on it so we could only see it from ... read more

Well hello everybody! I apologise for the long pause, I have been quite busy recently! I am in airlie beach already but there is much to tell so I have splitup the journals! well, starting back in Brisbane, we were helping set up a new shop, which just included unpacking and pricing stuff, easy work for the money! But unfortnately, this finished 4 days early, although it meant we could add in rainbow beach! We were working with some really nice Irish people who were in our hostel and were a good laugh to work (and socialise!) with! we moved hostel half way through though as I woke up with a cockroach on my headboard and Laura had been bitten by bed bugs! hhmm..... Whilst in Brisbane we went to Australia Zoo, this is one ... read more

Arrived at Rainbow Beach after a long day of travelling (went through Surfer's Paradise and am quite glad I didn't stop there - seemed to be just full of skyscrapers!) and headed straight out of Dingos to explore the town. You realise very soon that there isn't very much at all to see and do in Rainbow Beach apart from walk along the beach (lots of different sandy colours, hence the name) and have a very short wander in the three or so shops they have there. We met some girls where we were staying who were stranded there for four days thanks to Peter Pans excellent booking! I quickly learned that Rainbow Beach was really just the gateway to Fraser Island (the world's largest sand island). It's not really the kind of place you'd ... read more

Next stop on our trip was Rainbow Beach - not much to say about this place really - just a nice beach and not much else! Stayed for 1 night at Frasers YHA which was really nice and chilled out. Arrived early pm and spent the afternoon by the beach ( theres a surprise - getting a bit of a habit by now!!). Ok waves but nowhere near as good as Noosa/byron ( Neil - will give you tips on best surfing places when we r back for when you come out cos you have to - you'd love it!!). After a quiet night in playing Uno (sad i know!!) with a group of German girls that we canooed and travelled up with, the next day ( miserable and rainy!) spent travelling to Hervey Bay for ... read more

After the briefest of stays in Noosa we headed further north to Rainbow Beach. We were mainly heading to Rainbow Beach as it is a major starting point for trips to Fraser Island. We arrived quite late in the evening at Dingo's hostel. After checking in we headed to find some grub but most of the town had shut up. Having a nose for these types of things we eventually found a pizzeria on the far side of the village. After that we met our roommates, most of whom appeared to be working in the hostel in one job or another. The following day we headed down to Rainbow's beautiful beach. This was the first place we have been in Australia that we could swim in the ocean without fear of jellyfish (So just the sharks ... read more
