From Noosa we travelled further north to Hervey Bay. This is principally the gateway for Fraser Island but it is also the "whale watching capital of the world" so we could hardly refuse the opportunity to go meet some friendly whales. It is a well-known whale watching spot in July to October as Hervey Bay is en route of the humpback whales southern migration down to the Antartic waters in the southern hemisphere summer months. Hervey Bay is a sheltered bay where female whales come to give birth in a safe environment before sticking around in the warm waters of the bay for a couple of months. This allows their calves, weighing 1.5 tonnes at birth, to up their weight to about 4 tonnes, by drinking 600 litres of milk a day!! so they are large ... read more

I have started studying campsite books like I do hotels on the internet so I managed to find a really sweet site right on the beach that luckily had a lovely little spot for us right on the front. We spent the first day walking halfway along the beach (it’s 17km!!) and doing a bit of sunbathing - well it’s been a while!!!!!! On the second day there I decided that if I didn’t do the Indonesia blogs soon I would give up all together so spent most of the day in the internet café while Tel had his hair cut and had a bit of a drive around and general campsite activities like chatting a lot - he’s pretty good at that!!!! Blog done, well the Indonesian ones anyway, we decided it was time to ... read more

We got as far south as Proserpine and stayed at the caravan park. In the morning we had a swim in the heated Olympic pool. It was fun. Left and went through Dingo Beach and stayed to look at Airlie Beach. They were both nice places. Then we drove to Eungella and stayed at the camping ground at the top of the valley. We drove to the dam and got there before 10am. It was nice, so we all decided to stay the night. I had a dip so I could call my family a chicken. Then Dad & Kate cooked tea, while I lit a fire. Next we stayed at Carmila Beach. Kate and I went down to the beach. In the morning the tide was a long, long, way out. We took about 45 ... read more

One of the many suggested 'must dos' in Australia is to visit Hervey Bay and take a day cruise out into the bay to watch the Humpback Whales congregate in the warm waters and have their calves, before swimming back down the coast to Antartic waters later on in the year. So with the opportunity of a two day holiday, mid week, thanks to Brisbanes' Annual Ekka Show Day, similar to the Newbury Show we decided to drive the 4 1/2 hour drive north after work and stay in a B&B reccommended to us. The drive out of the city was painfully slow but improved once we had driven passed the Bribie Island turning. Obviously others were taking up the opprotunity of a short break away too. After jumping on the night bus from Airlie beach i caught up with the Irish girls,Norma, Fionnula and Cliona. Three cracking girls i met on mission beach and traveled with to Airlie. They went on the silent night a couple of days before me so had left Airlie before i finished. Met up with them on Saturday morning then straight on the boat out to Fraser. They had booked onto a guided tour on Fraser which sounded like a laugh and knowing them it would be! We arrived on Fraser early and jumped straight on the bus. The driver Peter was definitely a bit lively for this time in the morning. But we all soon caught up! first of all we went out to Lake Mckenzie basically just one big freshwater lake but the first ... read more

Day 70 - Petrie Park, Tiaro to Hervey Bay Crikey it was cold last night! Brrrrrrrrr! When the alarm went off at 6.15 this morning we both groaned but we really wanted to see the platypus again and figured our best opportunity to do that was when everyone else was still asleep and the wildlife was only just waking up! Catch them unaware, that was the plan!! We grabbed a hot drink each, a towel to sit on, the binoculars, oh and of course the camera! We’d found a little spot yesterday which gave us a good view of the river but we were sort of hidden behind some overhanging branches! Sitting quietly at that time of the morning is easy and we’d only been there about ten minutes when we had our first glimpse of ... read more

Hey everyone!! So much has happened since the last entry so ill try explain as much as I can. So the last couple of days in Brisbane were fun, got all the stuff ready for the road trip, packed everything up and collected as much free stuff as we could find.. food, blankets, tents, sleeping bags - you name it, we found it!! Me and Rob walked down into the city on the last night and unfortunatly because he had a hole in his jeans we were unable to go to the casino... never mind! We said our good byes to the city and headed back to the hostel! Went out for a few drinks with everyone as a good bye party then crashed out in anticipation for a very early and hectic start. We’ve been very busy bees the last few weeks. Work has been going great for both of us and we’ve really settled into city living. We’ve moved apartment in the last few weeks. Found a lovely 2 bed apartment, just a couple of hundred yards away from our old place. It’s right on Hyde Park. We now have a gorgeous view of St. Mary’s Cathedral and Hyde Park, with Sydney Harbour in the background. We still have our gym and swimming pool in the building, so we’re still keeping our high living standards, nothing but the best for us! Haha We finally brought our camera for a trip around the city to the Queen Victoria Building (QVB), a lovely shopping centre where Lynsey gets the bus to work daily, and Town Hall. Next stop was Hyde ... read more

Sorry its been so long. I am in Hervey Bay in Australia its hot and humid up here. Tomorrow or day after I will go on a 2 day tour of Fraser Island (the largest sand island in the world). Since the last time I wrote I flew to Brisbane and stayed at a Meher Baba retreat. I had an amazing time there. I caught up with old friends that I met in India and met many new friends. When I was leaving I saw a kangaroo! It was so cool. It bounced up a hill as we were driving. Last night I stayed in Noosa. I got there at 5ish and left this morning at 9:35am. I didn't realize how beautiful of an area it is so I hope to make it back there to ... read more
