14th May ’12 Leaving Sydney and the start of the Motorhead Motor Home Adventure! Howard and Matty set off to fetch the Motor Home while the rest of us packed up and got the gear down to the road to wait for them. We weren’t sure how long it would take them but knew when they pulled up we would just have to jump in and not hang around. Once they arrived we had a mad scramble to put the bags in and then we shot straight off. Well this was our first introduction to the motor home and it was bigger than I had expected but with 4 of us plus bags everywhere it wasn’t long before we realised that we had to get the gear stowed away. As we flew round corners the stuff ... read more

Wir laufen einmal ... read more

Had an 11 hour journey to Airlie Beach and Wednesday! We stopped in Sarina and did lawn bowling which was pretty random and I got perved on by some of the old men there! I'm even worse at lawn bowling than I am at 10 pin bowling and I came to the conclusion that I pretty much suck at all activities! I keep trying and hey its the taking part that counts! :P Arrive in Airlie quite late in the evening and feeling pretty stressed! Had a lot to sort out this evening to get ready for our Whitsundays trip tomorrow. Had to do laundry as I have run out of clean clothes, as well as meet our bus group for food. Had an amazing pizza at the Downunder bar, possibly the best pizza I have ... read more

Hello again! Well I arrived safely in Cairns early on Tuesday morning and got a transfer to my hostel, Gilligans. I was sharing a room with 7 other people but this was more than made up for by the fact that the hostel was right in the centre of town, had it's own swimming pool, bar and club and the people in my room were really friendly. I went out for lunch with Andy, someone I met on the Cambodia tour and then sunbathed for most of the afternoon (fortunately I managed not to burn this time which was rather nice). I had dinner in the hostel and then went out for the night. On the Wednesday, I had booked myself on a boat trip out to the Barrier Reef to do some snorkelling which was ... read more

"Under the sea Under the sea Darling it's better Down where it's wetter Take it from me Up on the shore they work all day Out in the sun they slave away While we devotin' Full time to floatin' Under the sea" -The Little Mermaid The Great Barrier Reef attracted me the most of all the attractive things in Australia. Its a massive expanse of living creatures that frolic beneath the sea. I find it very creepy. Especailly when you think of the carniverous coral plants just waiting for unsuspecting fish to swim by where they can grab them. I flew from Christchurch, New Zealand to Brisbane (my third entry into that particular city). I spent one night there and then took the overnight train to Airlie Beach. Well you can't actually take the train all ... read more

Da har vi allerede vært i Australia i over to uker. Koalaene sover i gjennomsnitt 18 timer hvert døgn. Og det meste av tiden de er våkne består av å spise eucalyptusblader. De lever med andre ord et ganske avslappende liv. Nesten sånn som oss J Kenguruene var det litt mer ... read more

So last time we wrote we were off to meet Dominik at the lagoon... we actually bumped into him on the street which was handy and headed there together, it was a lovely hot day and the water was refreshing, after a catch up we left him to visit the museum (thought we might as well do something that was free and cultural) and headed back for a night in. We had to get the bus in the morning, and when we woke up all our room mates had checked out... and taken our ipod wall charger and lead (which charged everything we had) as well as our moisturiser... we started off the day in a very bad mood! We headed up to Noosa which had a nice beach (a bit of a walk away) but ... read more

Croc hunting! Well, we are in the wet season for Cairns but not had a drop!! Experiencing glorious sunshine! Cairns often gets slagged off for being tacky, but actually it’s a nice, funky place. Having said that by the 2nd day we hired a car and drove up to Cape Tribulation, home to the most ancient rainforest in the world and the home of the only part of the planet where two world heritage sites ) rainforest and the reef) meet. It’s stunning – we spent the day going on walks through the rainforest, and even spotted a cassowary (very rare, funny emu like bird!) Found hidden waterfalls and creeks…highlight of the day was going crocodile hunting down the Daintree River! We saw a tree frog and tree snake, and some baby crocs (all very lovely ... read more

18.2.2012 Airlie Beach Arrived in Airlie Beach at 7.00, feeling rough and ragged after spending the whole night on an overnight bus. It was not a pleasant journey as we were seated next to the toilet, so when anyone went to spend a penny we were awoken by the awful stench which wafted through the door. It got better, half way through the night the toilet broke, not sure what happened but the smell was horrific and we were stuck with it all the way to Airle Beach. We checked into our accommodation, Beaches, which was ok (being generous) but we had to stay there as it was cheaper with the package we bought for sailing the Whitsundays. We paid for a double but there was none left so they gave us an 8 bedded dorm ... read more

Today was our last morning on the boat so after a quick breakfast we had the chance to do 1 more snorkel. We opted out of the last snorkelling session - as Will had indulged too much on breakfast and Jo was suffering from heat rash from the wet suit! But Jo (Will’s sister) went for a final look at the Great Barrier Reef, although when those who did snorkel returned to the boat there was talk of box jelly fish being seen in the water, so I think everyone was happy to make that their last dip in the sea! We then set sail back to Airlie Beach which took about 2 hours and enjoyed morning tea during the sail over to the main land. It was a particularly hot day so carrying our bags ... read more
