Ah man!!!...even when i have tried to book accommodations in advance its useless, I arrive in Sydney early morning Saturday (6:30-7am) tried to check in to find out i couldn't check into my room till 10am so i had to wonder the streets of another new country to kill 3 hours. Although i was very tired from not having much sleep on the plane coming from Thailand and not sleeping much the last few days there, all i was looking forward to was checking in and having a great sleep. Actually it turned out fine, i got to see the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House in the early morning light and the streets was so peaceful and empty apart from a few early morning joggers and an old Japanese man snapping away with his camera, ... read more

First off, sorry if you got emails for blogs you'd already read. Unfortunately, Travelblog was hacked a few weeks ago and all the entries deleted. Ange somehow managed to salvage mine, but reposting them meant all the subscription emails were sent out again. Going to post all feature blogs on Myspace too just in case it happens again, so if you're on there as well just ignore them. Been a busy few weeks since I last wrote. Had a wonderful trip to the harbour about a month ago. Got to go down as one of the best days of my life. We'd only gone into town to have a little look around after Steve had had to cancel the flight because of the flu, but thanks to a superhuman effort from Ange pushing me nearly the ... read more

Most pictures of Sydney Opera House show it nestled under or in front of the Harbour Bridge, we have just been to see an Aboriginal Dance Show there so thought we take some close up pictures to give a different view. Well it's my last full day in Australia, and I haven't caught up on my updating yet. I still have to write about my visit to Sydney. It was short and sweet, and fun visiting my friend Ben and seeing, probably what are the most famous Australian landmarks, the Harbour Bridge, and the Sydney Opera House. It was slightly surreal seeing them to be honest. You kind of just think wow, I've seen that on TV loads! but really the harbour is gorgeous and these two landmarks contribute to the overall picturesque views. On my first day, we walked about Darling harbour, and went to the Wildlife centre, where I got to see all the lovely critters that I (haven't really) missed while going through Australia. Oh you know, things like the red back spider, and ... read more

Today we started off the day, making our way across Hyde Park, past St Mary's Cathedral and the government house to arrive at the spectacular Sydney Opera House. The first must see activity within the city. We had a 1 hour tour inside the two theatres, and were fortunate enough to see the Sydney Symphony rehearsing, with Gary Burton on the vibraphone and Chick Corea the jazz legend. Ellie was disappointed not to see the Australian Ballet rehearsing in the next theatre! Unfortunately no cheap tickets available - maybe next time! The Sydney Opera house took 14 years to complete and cost a mere 102 million dollars - which was slightly over budget & extended the estimated time-scale. Each theatre has been constructed in order to maximise the acoustics & have been very cleverly and artistically ... read more

DAY 3: There was no escape. Cliche or no cliche. I had to pay a visit to the Opera House. We set out for the harbour in the late morning, after a delicious breakfast in a little Newtown cafe just 10 metres from Katherine's door step (which was just as well because Saturday night had been a late one). It was yet another glorious day. Sun shining. Not a cloud in the big blue sky. On arrival at the harbour we decided to take a walk around instead of heading straight to the Opera House. It was worth it with some lovely views of said building from across the bay. We were also able to admire the Sydney harbour bridge and the skyscrapers of downtown. But the main event was still walking over to the ... read more

Hi everyone. Keep those messages coming, it's great to hear from you..travelblogging is definitely the way to keep in touch. Suzanne left for Adelaide - Wednesday - and first report from her is it's lovely and she reports Great White Sharks in the vicinity, but I needn't worry cos I know she doesn't like to get her face wet. And I am at Double Bay with Angie and Ed's. Lovely to be here with them - Angie and I met doing our teacher training and Ed was at the University of Sussex when they met, so Michael knew him too....and we all fell in love at the same time and got married in the University Meeting House within a few months of each other and I had Richard just 6 months before Angie had Hattie.... so ... read more
