Louise McGuinness Please dont yawn at more opera photos, this building has a had serious affect on me!! Become an annoying snap happy tourist! I just couldnt help it though, everytime I look at it, it changes- the outside surface can look washed out sometimes, apparently the ceramic tiles are the 'skin' which breathes ( and self cleans- i dont understand that).. the different colours it takes on reflect the changes in the weather. You can see this in some photos where the white surface takes on the blue of the sky. Inside the Opera House, its very bizarre, there is a lot of nasty exposed concrete, but the industrial looking shapes mean you are drawn to the views from outside. The Utzon room is a prime example. So want a house with a whole wall exposed to the sea. Would be amazing. Utzon was the orginial architect, who now lives in Mallorca and has designed buildings elsewhere. Quite curious about his work. Its really cool.
