Sydney, Sydney, Sydney. This city is very big and bustlinig with businessmen and women and also lots and lots of tourists like us. So we still had our fabulous campervan as we drove into the city. Imagine this big camper trying to dodge the people jaywalking, not having a clue where we are and me navagating. We had to drive the van into the city to fond somewhere to ship our didgeridoos home. After trying Fed-Ex who quoted us over 600 Australian dollars....which we said thanks but no thanks to, we found a place to send them for 99 AD each. That was a relief because they oncy cost us 90 and 130 dollars. After getting those shipped, we checked into a hostel in the center of town and then said our final goodbyes to the ... read more

G'day from Sydney We've had a busy 4 days since we arrived here and no time for the blog until now Had good flights from KL to Sydney via Singapore, only delayed because someone didn't make the flight to Sydney from Singapore but their luggage did!! so we had to wait whilst it was unloaded. Lots of security at the airports which is reasssuring and didn't cause any delays. Much quickewr operation than at UK airports from what we've seen so far. On arrival at Sydney all the luggage is scanned again once you've picked it up and lots of people were having their cases opened and searched. The Australian authorities are really hot on anyone bringing food, plants, seeds, soil deposits on shoes/boots etc. They are really worried about getting infections into the country that ... read more

Nice sunny day today so was off out and about. First 'port' of call was Darling Harbour where I wandered around and looked at the boats and harbour then strolled along and found myself in Hyde Park, sydney style - gorgeous trees and parrots flying about all over the place and these crane things, with a long curved beak - must get a picture. Continuing the nature theme I found the Royal Botanical Gardens which are beautiful and lead to the main attractions: Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House yay! It was great and a bit surreal to actually be seeing it in the flesh. All very gorgeous and lovely! I shall be back. Went back throught the botanical gardens where I finally saw all the bats that roost there in the day, apparently they ... read more

We walked back to the hotel late afternoon, to have a sandwich for dinner (we had eaten a large lunch at wildlife world). On the way back, it was apparent that all four of our feet had had quite enough for the days, as we had basically been walking since about 11am. So after dinner, we got a taxi back to the opera house to see Holy Cow!, a pair of dutch magicians. They were very funny, and got more and more mind boggling as the show went on. Some of the stuff they did was actually impossible. I mean actually properly physically impossible. So, that's a big thumbs up for magic, and wave goodbye to science then. Glad that's finally settled... On the way back home, we again wandered through Hyde Park. This time ... read more

In love with Sydney once more... I love being back in Sydney and catching up with all of my friends and family. It feels like home and I’ll be very sad to leave :-( I have a packed two weeks and had the best weekend. I went for coffee in a funky place called Glebe. Glebe is very cool, lots of boutique shops, bars and bookshops. They had a market on so after a wander we headed to the Rocks which is right by Harbour Bridge to walk along the lanes as the sun set. Looking out to the Opera House I sighed and wished I could go to a show one more time...my dream came true as my friend picked up the phone as if by magic and booked us tickets to see the ... read more

Happy Birthday to ME!!!! What a gorgeous beautiful day to celebrate my birthday! I woke up relatively early but was excited about the day to come. I got online and saw that already I was getting little notes online giving me well wishes for the day. Then I headed down to Brekky for a good start to my day. When I walked into the dinning room everyone looked up and wished me a happy birthday ☺! I made myself some French toast (yay because we have bread again so I can). I used the bagel bread for two slices and the raisin bread for two slices, with a little honey on top. Mmmmmh! When the director of our house came in she immediately started to sing Happy Birthday to me! It was nice and adorable. ... read more

Hello, As every tourist coming into Sydney we went to visit the opera house again, but this time we decided to go on a guided tour. During this visit the guide explained us a lot of details concerning the history of the building, the construction itself and plans for the future. One hour of interesting story later we walked out to go to circular quay to have something to eat. Meanwhile we contacted Fran Mahony, the lovely lady we travelled with in Vietnam 10 years ago, and she said yes to our question to meet again. Hallo, We zijn in Sydney het opera huis nog eens gaan bezoeken, maar deze keer zijn we mee geweest op een begeleide toer in het gebouw. We kregen een hele uiteenzetting over de historiek en de manier waarop het gebouwd ... read more

Here are some photos from our walk around Sydney yesterday. We walked all over downtown running errands (yes, even on vacation there are errands to run!), and then had lunch in the Botanical Gardens, walked over the Opera House and The Rocks, and then back downtown. ... read more

Tina) Well folks we have now done trains and boats and planes. Our first train journey took us from Melbourne overnight to Sydney, being ever so considerate to our children and not wanting to waste their inheritance we didn't book a sleeper, as it was nearly 300$ more expensive than a recliner. Anyway its only a nights sleep we missed out on, but it was a bit of an adventure and there was two ladies in their 70's opposite us too which was nice cos we had a good old chat with them, one of them had been here for years and her children and grandchildren are all here but you could tell she missed England terribly. When she was huddled in her chair reading her book she looked just like our dear old Auntie ... read more
