Sydney is currently having a lights festival called Vivid Sydney. Although they have different smart light displays around the Rocks, the main attraction (as always) is the Opera House. They have lights shining on the Opera House in different color schemes that change every 10-20 minutes. It is hard to tell exactly how long, it seems like some are up forever, while others seem to change fast. It is definitely a cool display, as I have always complained that the Opera House is too dark at night. This steps up the bar...and seeing the patterns of blues, oranges, greens, etc. on the Opera House is awesome! The lights on the Contemporary Art Museum (across Circular Quay from Opera House) are equally impressive. Man, mid-semester break FLEW by! I don't know how 17 days can pass so quickly, it's ridiculous!! I got back from Melbourne on Wednesday in the early afternoon, took a nice long nap, then went to my favorite restaurant in Sydney with my friend Rob from class, a tapas place called Firefly. It's AMAZING and it's right on the harbour with the harbour bridge in view! So pretty! I think Thursday was a lazy day... I'm pretty sure I just laid around and didn't shower. Friday I went up to Macquarie (high five to me for doing this) and went to the library to do some work. I better get extra points for going to the library during my break!! So far, minus a few days of rain, Autumn weather in Sydney has been absolutely perfect!! Mostly sunny and around 70 degrees truly makes for a perfect day to walk around the city and be outside. It's also nice that the humidity has dropped so I don't look like a sweaty monster by the time I get to class or work, haha. My weekend flew by, as usual. Friday night was my friend Kristian's (guy I met in Cairns in September... look back at my older entries) last night in Sydney, so I went to have a drink with him in Kings Cross and had a great time. OH MY GOSH. Today I was walking around The Rocks (after eating a huge pancake breakfast at Pancakes on the Rocks) and I saw the greatest thing I have ever seen in the past 280-some days: a stand in the weekend markets selling.... dun dun dun.... CORN ON THE COB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, you don't even know how excited I was. And even though I was incredibly full of pancakes and bacon, I had to have one. So I did. It was dripping with butter and was covered in salt and pepper. Simply delicious. And the guy selling it had a 'corn fed' shirt on, so I felt right at home. Ahhh, today was great! Just a normal, simple day... but things couldn't have gone better :) And the weather was perfect, party cloudy and about 75 - great!! So this morning on my way to the bus stop to head to school and I hear all these weird noises, and then came all these cops on motorcycles, cop cars, limousines, nice cars, etc. So my first thought was, "OMG, IT"S BARACK OBAMA, WOOOO," but I didn't see any American flags, or ANY flags for the matter. I still felt really cool that I "saw" someone important and knew I could brag about it on here later.
