Happy Birthday to ME!!!!
What a gorgeous beautiful day to celebrate my birthday!
I woke up relatively early but was excited about the day to come. I got online and saw that already I was getting little notes online giving me well wishes for the day. Then I headed down to Brekky for a good start to my day. When I walked into the dinning room everyone looked up and wished me a happy birthday ☺!
I made myself some French toast (yay because we have bread again so I can). I used the bagel bread for two slices and the raisin bread for two slices, with a little honey on top. Mmmmmh! When the director of our house came in she immediately started to sing Happy Birthday to me! It was nice and adorable.
Then I went upstairs and tuned into Skype to have a chat with the US. I got to talk to my aunt Diana & uncle Frank, and my mum & dad all together on a conference call. I also during that time opened cards from my family that had arrived last week. After having a nice conversation with them I called my
Cheers and a Tim Tam
for those of you who don't know a Tim Tam is a delicious chocolate bisquit (aka cookie) Aunt Joyce who also sent me a card but didn’t have the means to get on Skype to conference call with everyone. She was so excited and surprised by my call. We had a nice chat. I also called my aunt Lois who sent me another cool card but I only got to leave a message for her. I was going to call more relatives but I had to go to class.
I enjoyed my Sport Mechanics lecture because we had a different lecturer today and it made me feel like I knew a lot because I got almost all of the questions right. Then I went to my Outdoor Ed class. We were getting ready for the field trip that we will be taking in two weeks. (A weekend in the blue mountains in cabins with lots of hiking). I was excited because I’m in a group of all Australians and we are beginning to become friends. To prepare for the field trip we learned about the Flora and Fauna of the area in a very different kind of way. He split us up in pairs or threes and gave us a paper about each of one of
the things. My group was supposed to talk about the Galah (a bird in the Cockatoo family). I suggested we make it funny. I would flap around the class like the bird and the other two would talk to each other describing “me”……..it was hilarious!
After class I visited Sarah and Sam in their room to work on the plans for celebrating this evening. Then I popped over to King St. to get some supplies. I had just enough time to drop of my school stuff at the house to race and meet Sarah and Sam at Victoria Park and then we walked to Central Train station to catch a train to Circular Quay. There we met up with Brittany and Nicole for a class evening watching the sunset behind the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. We toasted to my 22 completed years of life and the celebration of beginning my 23rd year. Of course we had to bring in the Australian side of things and had some Tim Tams to celebrate as well. Brittany also made and brought some delicious no bake cookies to enjoy. Mmmmmhh!
Then we set off back to catch a bus to Glebe
and have dinner at the Flying Fajita Sistas. We met Jeff out front and waited outside because there had been a mess up with the reservation time. While waiting Sarah sneaked off to St. Johns and brought me back a sombrero.
(Which is perfect of course because the first night we ever went to the sistas Brittany found a sombrero in a bush on the way there. It has been a tradition ever since. Now I have one to. The cool thing about my sombrero is that it is green and yellow which are the Australian colors.) We didn’t know if we would get a table but the good ole sistas made it work and found us a table by 7:20. We enjoyed tacos and tequitos and the best chips and guac and picarillo we could get. It was delicious.
After we wrapped it up at the Sistas we headed a couple doors down to San Churro Chocolateria. This is where I had invited everyone to come and wish me a happy birthday. I had just made an open facebook event the previous night so I didn’t really know if anyone would come. The six of us who had
gone to the sistas ordered some churros and an Aztecca hot chocolate (regular hot chocolate with chili and cinnamon). The place was pretty busy but it looked like a big table of people were about to leave. SO we grabbed a small table and were just getting organized when I chanced to look at the door. What I saw almost brought me to tears. Practically all of Mandelbaum House was there to wish me a Happy Birthday. I was floored! I didn’t realize that there were that many people here that cared about me. I was bubbling and over joyed. Unfortunately it was a little awkward for a bit because there wasn’t anywhere for people to sit for a little bit but it worked out alright and we finally got a spot for everybody. Everybody enjoyed my pick of places because of the amazing chocolate there. It was a great time.
The high of friends and probably a little chocolate definitely lasted me the rest of the night. It was a great celebration and a perfect night!
