That night, after having driven around and trying to escape the heat (which you couldn't), Dana and I got to meet Ben's band. Apparently they are very popular in their niche of the music world, and must practice a lot. So we met up with his band (and one of the member's girlfriends, who also is in a band, and I'm really dying to hear her music because her description sounds really interesting) and from there we went into Capitol Hill so they could go to their studio and they could practice. The studio, it turns out, its inbewteen two bars, behind a locked door littered with old flyers, grafetti, and stickers. But once you enter down the very long and sharp flight of stairs your greeted by frosted glass that says "Underground Recording Studio". There ... read more

Technology 1 Julie 0 Technology has won again as I have already written the blog post "Before the Trip", an eloquent reflection of the busyness of preparing for a trip, the worries I have going away, the things I will miss, the prayers that I asked for, but it was deleted before I could publish it. Possibly I just needed some personal reflection so it was good I could express all of those things; however, I'm slightly annoyed but realizing this is just one example of the flexibility and good spirits I will need to have when abroad. Some business stuff: This is where I will post everything I post- pictures (more pictures probably on facebook), videos, writings. I believe you will be able to follow me on a map through my travels as well so ... read more

Northern Baja and into California and towards home - Last Trip Post We changed our plans and decided against the back road short-cut. With the amount of rain that the area had been getting over the past week the only safe place to ride was on pavement. Even the pull-offs on the side of road were treacherous with inches of silty mud. I was even worried about the couple of miles of construction I knew we had to go through leaving Ensenada. Turned out the construction was not a problem, so we rode straight thru to Tecate and a little further before stopping at a family resort in the mountains. Another totally empty resort meant a great deal on a cute little cabin WITH heat and hot water. Getting there is when our plans to go ... read more

After two full days of travel I made it safe and sound back home! It feels great to be back in the Northwest and I look forward to getting caught up with friends and family. My phone is working again so give me a call:) "There's a kind of luck that's not much more than being in the right place at the right time, a kind of inspiration that's not much more than doing the right thing in the right way, and both really happen to you when you empty your heart of ambition, purpose, and plan; When you give yourself completely to the golden, fate-filled moment" - Gregory Roberts, 'Shantaram' To give yourself up to the moment is one of the most important things I learned in my travels... going with your and not necessarily ... read more

Happy Inauguration Day!!!! What a wonderful moment in time to be alive and to witness a whole nation that has chosen to make a change. Pretty powerful stuff, it seems it can only get better from here. Hope you all find a memorable way to celebrate and remember this blessed day. Less than Nine months from now we will have a new edition in our lives and probably the biggest adventure yet. We are both very excited and ready for this next branch of life. Hello again folks! Thanks for all your supportive messages. It makes such a difference. I have never done this travelling lark before but every now and then I think of all my nice, normal, lovely friends and family in the UK and it makes me smile very broadly. So, I am now in Bellingham, the northernmost town in the US (on the West side, anyway). But first let me tell you how I spent my last day in Seattle. I had a nice leisurely morning (it really is a great hostel - so friendly - if you ever find yourself in Seattle I highly recommend 'Hostel Seattle'. It's quite small and the owners Lee and Nancy make a great effort to know everyone's names and take an interest in what you're up to). And then I ... read more

Happy wishes from Bellingham! Just want to say Hi and thanks for all your love and support. We are doing well and happy to be back in this area of the world as you can probably see from the pictures. Not to much to tell you as far as the health battle goes, taking a break from doctors until we get ourselves in a home and a steady income. However, I am still learning and reading about all kinds of holistic healing and body work that I can do on myself. I have a daily routine I now do and have a wonderful friend who is giving me full body massages and energy work once a week here in Bellingham. The hardest part about doctors is finding the right match. So I am waiting for that ... read more

Hi All! Sorry it’s been so long since we posted anything. Our life got kind of crazy the past few months. Many of you already know we are back in Washington. I think it was sometime in May when Natalie started having some intestinal difficulties as it were. This of course didn’t come as surprise as it’s a normal occurrence in less developed countries with poor sanitation and water quality etc. Anyway, Natalie was also working very hard to overcome some behavioral challenges with her class, and I was working very hard to keep up with the ever frantic guiding business. The visits to the clinic just added to our already hectic lifestyle. So, needless to say, this was a trying time for us. Natalie’s symptoms were not improving though. The symptoms were and are varied ... read more
