From Wilderness Village RV Park in Rockport WA, I headed west on WA 20 under overcast skies to I-5 north and the Bellingham RV Park in Bellingham WA on Wednesday, July 12, 2017. Thursday, I decided ‘twould be a good day to be Mr. Domestic as the forecast called for rain. Indeed, when I awoke, it was drizzling and stayed dismal all day. I’d be the last to begrudge the locals, particularly the wildland firefighters, of some much-needed precipitation – as long as I can get a couple of decent days out of the deal – particularly since I actually had only two full days of activities on my agenda anyway. Friday was more of the same with intermittent light rain all day, and the weekend forecast incorrectly call for more of the same, but, in ... read more

So we left Coburg, Oregon on Friday morning and headed towards Seattle. They told us that Friday was not a particularly good day to travel but we are not particularly smart travelers. We thought we would maybe stop for the night somewhere south of Seattle to miss traffic and then get up early on Saturday and head through Seattle and then over the border since we were told that crossing the border before noon was usually the best time. Well we flew through Tacoma without any problem so we decided that maybe we were early enough why not try to get through Seattle and stay in Bellingham, WA. What a mistake! I won't bore you with the details but let's just say that it took us 9 hours to go from Coburg to Bellingham which is ... read more

We had a good drive from Grants Pass to Portland, stayed two nights in a nice park and made our way through the Cascades and downtown Seattle to land here in Bellingham, WA. As you can see from the pictures we had severe clear weather and it allowed us to navigate from mountain peak to mountain peak as we cruised along Interstate 5. It's hard to get good pictures from the window of the truck but Michelle is getting better at it as we go along. I think there will be more opportunities as we make our way north. The Bellingham stop was always planned to be a resupply for Canada but Michelle had the great idea to shop in Oregon since they have no sales tax and Washington soaks you for anywhere from 8-10% depending ... read more

So, we pulled out of GV just about an hour late and headed for Payson AZ for our 1stday out. The truck, as usual, performed really well except for our brakes. They began to chatter at low speeds and then increased to anytime. Since we had just had them serviced, we got a bit nervous. Good thing we have an electronic exhaust brake or we would have been in some real trouble. We overnited in an NF campground and left early the next day. We got as far as Camp Verde and, electronic brake or not, we had a problem. Stopped at the Ford dealer and met a service tech from Seattle. The brakes had over 100 K miles and the rotors were not just warped but gone. Ok, just $500 bucks and a lot of ... read more

Welcome back to Canada Kim and Kathy! Uneventful day on the Interstate. 9 hours in the seat culminating with rush hour traffic in Seattle. Did stop at an informative centre, portraying the struggles on The Oregon Trail. Cant imagine the hardships that were endured by those travellers. Went to Anthony's in Bellingham for dinner. I had the pan fried oysters. First real meal in a few days. Kate tried the fish and chips and we both had a wonderful cold beer. Stayed at the Econolodge on Meridian. This morning we do the export/ import process. Cant say Im looking forward to it , bit I think everything is properly prepared. We stopped in Kennrick Wa to pick up a travel permit. That was the easiest procedure I have ever accomplished at a Dept of Motor Vehicles ... read more

THE BASICS After a couple of days in Revelstoke, we proceeded to Kamloops, BC for a couple of days' stay. Then came a choice: go down the Okanagan Valley as so many urged, or down the Fraser River Valley. John chose the latter. We stayed overnight at a nice campground in Boston Bar, then drove the remainder of the valley (with Linda grinding her teeth in terror most of the time) and reached Hope, on flat land. A couple of days in Hope, then on to Vancouver. But wait! First, John wanted to duck over the border to buy some gasoline and visit the charming little Dutch town of Lynden. That wait to get into the U.S. was only 1 1/2 hours. On to Vancouver (it's quick to get into Canada) where our campground was very ... read more

On the I 5 at 9 this AM, off at 6PM and back at Larrabee State Park in the same campsite as before at 7PM. Travel was without incident, except for taking a wrong fork and short detour in Portland (got directions from a trucker at MacDonalds - Dianne had to satisfy her new craving for their pineapple-mango smoothies! Leftover pizza for supper, and other miscellaneous goodies. We sure hated to leave Jacksonville, but Dianne needs to be back at work on Tuesday. We'll deal with our car situation in the morning (the adjuster was off work today unexpectedly - they have offered $2100, and the repair estimate is $3700 - hope SGI will do a bit better. So we're back to tenting for a couple of nights - will probably be at the farm Sat ... read more

A wonderful leisurely breakfast on a beautiful morning. Great to stay with someone who loves to cook as Dennis does: last night it was fresh salmon bbq'd slowly in a wood fired indirect head bbq that gives a smoky taste - delicious! Now the Indian Runner ducks (7) are back in the pond with the half dozen large koi (look it up!) and some real rice growing along with other plants. The pond partly ices over i n the winder but the fish hibernate in the mud. A beautiful yard with all kinds of flowers and shrubs and trees, a raised bed garden, and many species of trees (watch for pics and names on my website (photobucket) later. Now we hit the road to north of Portland and down the Oregon coastal route to Jacksonville over ... read more

A gorgeous warm day on the coast. Picked up our Dodge Journey at 7:45 AM, and crossed the border at Sumas crossing. We got hauled aside for an agricultural search because we admitted having tomatoes and peppers in the vehicle. They took our tomatoes! Breakfast at a casino with Dianne's family cost 99 cents. Later we got to Larramy State Park on the coast and are tenting until tomorrow morning when we go back into Bellingham to visit relatives. After setting up camp we had a nap and went into Fairview - found a great bookstore (Village Books) with a cafe with WIFI which is where we are now. We had supper at AW Bistro, an asian cafe with great food and prices we liked. Now we're off to the campground for the night!... read more
