So, you're probably wondering whatever made us decide to fly all the way across the world to Romania. Well, I'm sure there are going to be many times when we will repeat that question ourselves, but here is the general story. Earlier this year, my niece was inspired by someone in her church to do some mission work in Romania. Of course, she desired to have someone she knew well to go along with her and she, therefore, decided to talk my daughter into going along. As the plans progressed, we realized that the timing was not going to work out for us. Sooo..... I mentioned that I have an uncle who is involved in an orphan ministry over there and maybe we could work something out with him. My uncle seemed thrilled to have us ... read more

well, we finally made it to posting an entry....1000 miles into the journey of course, but better late than never. here's the quick recap...we left in a flurry (as most trips are left in), but eventually made it over to the peninsula and to greet us, it was REALLY wet and cold for a week. it was quite miserable actually. it took us time to get used the loads and taking turns on wet, cold pavement...needless to say the going was slow. and our fingers hurt. oregon...better weather (our first day of sunshine), rogue brewery, better time... california...hell yeah. i love the redwoods, we have wandered all around and seen some big, old trees (understatement). the drive through howland hills was fantastic (though it was not the kind of thing our bikes were meant for...wet, muddy ... read more

We've had the past year or so to soak up Washington state while we spent time with our families and worked. In early July we went to Eastern WA and to Montana. July was a great month of visiting old friends and family. Or should I say old family and young friends; and some young family. We also enjoyed some classic Missoula scenery and rivers. After returning to WA, Natalie headed out on an adventure with my parents, John and Tricia to beautiful Ross Lake WA, it's gorgeous up there as you might see from the photos. They kayaked up to Ross Lake Dam from Diablo Lake and paid for a ride around the dam and then paddle up Ross Lake. Natalie and Barb also hiked desolation peak. (btw Natalie doesn't give a damn about Kerouac) ... read more

(For you guys who are not familiar with Washington State geography, Mt Vernon(city) is approximately 20 miles south of Bellingham.) Surprisingly, after almost 100 miles of riding and 10+ hrs of saddle time the day before, Rene and I woke up today with nothing more than sore butts, luckily! Our legs felt fresh and strong for what laid ahead, another 80 or so miles to Vancouver B.C. After Starbucks and a hearty breakfast at Denny’s, we left Mt. Vernon and headed north, to Bellingham. The roads to Bellingham were not easy, with our sore glutes, the last thing we needed was a rough road. After miles and miles of bone-jarring pedaling, the road pointed up, and up, and up, and then became curvy. To increase the stress, this 2-lane, narrow highway became “shoulder-less”, ay yay ... read more

Heliotrope Glissading This is my first blog- Over the weekend my dad (Mike) and I headed out to Heliotrope Ridge. The hike is Located next to Mt. Baker, home to the World Record Snowfall and some pretty frickin sweet skiing. But the weekend instead included some flippin' sweet backpackin (I promise no more references to Mr Dynamite). The hike itself is relatively short- 3 miles, 1600 vert feet, with some fun (according to me) river crossings. This trip was chalk full of controversy, plot points, and bloggable tidbits. Unfortunately, I'm an introvert, and a private person, so those controversies will remain secret. I will say however, I have conclusive proof that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have a baby. A few things hold true in both worlds (W's and Everyone else's), Jack Daniels straight no ... read more

Last week, I decided to make a trip to USA during the weekends because my visa waiver record was expiring soon and I needed to return it to the Canadian Immigration. Since I would be spending more than 2 hours to travel all the way to the border, it would be a waste if I just went there to return the visa waiver record and did nothing else. Hence, I decided to visit Lynden, a small town north of Bellingham. (I could settle my visa waiver stuffs on my way back to Vancouver after the trip.) I wanted to visit Lynden because it's famous for its Dutch heritage and Dutch architecture. When I woke up on Saturday morning, the sky was clear and blue (unlike the previous few days, when the whole place was covered with ... read more

Vinny, Tony, and I are taking a trip to Europe beginning 10/04/05. We fly into Amsterdam Friday morning 10/07 and plan to stay there for the weekend. After that we will be headed to Germany, Italy, Greece (hopefully), Spain, France and then back to Amsterdam to fly back. That is the rough plan. Actually that is the only plan. We will see. Wish us luck. Oh yeah, and Tony has a mustache. Wait for pictures...... read more

Here we are the end of week three and still in Bellingham. The good news is that the camera will be arriving tomorrow and we will be getting the hell out of dodge. It has been nice in Bellingham but we are ready to move on. We spent the first 5 nights in a great campground at the Larabee State Park. It was right by the beach, had rv hook ups and showers. Yep, we showered. 2 showers in 2 weeks. Not too bad :) Since the campground was pre-reserved for the weekend we had to leave and thats how we ended up in the Wal-Mart parking lot. They allow you to stay there overnight for free which is nice. The first couple of days were funny - were in the Wal-Mart parking lot. But now, ... read more
