I'm a searcher of the unusual and the odd, and a lover of life and all the people in it! I'm a writer by trade, and a knitter and tea maker by accident. I love making friends with people, and traveling the world to see how others live, hear their stories, and experience different cultures is one of my greatest pleasures!

As I sit here looking at my packed bag, I can't help but smile. I have everything neatly in its place and packed with tons of room to spare for all the glorious yarn I'm going to stash into my carry on size duffel bag. Yep. No time like the night before to have everything organized and packed and taking the stress out of the next mornings mad rush to the airport. ................... That's what I'd love to type. But it's not true. I'm actually desperately downloading I-tunes songs into my I-pod which I'm also charging. Meanwhile I'm mentally sending telepathic messages to the dryer to finish drying my clothes faster. I don't think it hears me. Possibly the fact that I ingested half a bottle of NyQuil to make my insomnia go away is what's ... read more

As I've been busy I'm going to have to combine two days into one blog; I'm sure you can all suffer through it! The end of my trip is nearing, and tomorrow at 10 a.m. I will be heading to a hill for one last winter sport of inter-tubing before heading off to the airport to head for home--and daily life and stresses. Its been a very interesting vacation being a nanny--but not quite a nanny--on this trip, plagued with questions of 'how do I act' 'am I doing this right' and other such thoughts. But mainly I had fun, and enjoyed the snow much more than a sane person probably should. I'm going to be sad to see it go, and despite my mangled knees, I really REALLY enjoy skiing and hope I can ... read more

Yesterday was a day of relaxation, or so it was supposed to be. My knees were in much better shape--my calves not so much. Apparently the pain from the knees superseded the soreness of of my muscles, and I was feeling it. I woke up at the joyful hour of nine (but probably didn't reallysleep more than five or six hours), had some breakfast, and then waffled into my snow clothes before being loaded in with the rest of the motley crew to head off to go snowmobiling. It was cold that day, and windy, sending snow across barren fields and freezing already frozen spindly weeds and bushes. Yet surprisingly people were outside along these stretches of land and walking pretty briskly with their dogs and children in tow. If you can't beat the weather, ... read more

Today I awoke to knees that seemed to have almost miraculously healed. Apparently, this trip is filled with famous last thoughts. After breakfast, the donning of winter clothing, and a fifteen minute drive to the Ski Lodge, I found myself returning to meet my nemesis, the Green Ski Runs. Armed with only two Tylenol, grim determination, and part guilt trip, I grimly made my way to the bunny hill, determined to win against these hills of snow. My lovely companion for the day was Audrey, who was also feeling hesitant to go on any major hills that day. We joked around, skiied, and I didn't feel an ounce of pain. I felt my first twinges of pain in my knee, however, after an hour or so of skiing and Audrey and I sat down for ... read more

After getting next to no sleep--which is not uncommon in my life--I was awoken by my phone alerting me that it was indeed 7:30, and I should...no will be getting up. NOW. Outside wind and cloud had combined to make snow overnight, and after dragging my sleepy butt out of bed and pulling on winter like clothes I headed upstairs where the smell of pancakes awaited me, along with three girls very anxious to get out in the snow. As I love snow, I had no problem with this. We lugged on our coats, gloves, and shoes and went tromping around the snow and building more walls for our EXTREME SNOW BALL FIGHT EPIC BATTLE. We were soon wrangled up and taken to Deerfield to get fitted for ski boots and skis. It didn't take ... read more

I admit to fully being a last minute packer. What can I say, I thrive on the thought of 'what important thing have I forgotten now!?'. But as a person who generally travels light any way, it was very dismaying to pack a large suite case and FILL it. I filled a carry on duffel bag for four weeks and lugged it around Europe just fine. So how on earth did I manage to fill up a huge suite case for a trip that totals six days!? Well....adding a pillow, laptop, and snow boots probably didn't help. On the bright side, getting into the airport was no biggy! After all the horror stories of 'they pat you down/strip you/look at you naked/' I was a little nervous about it. Apparently though, the airport I went ... read more

That night, after having driven around and trying to escape the heat (which you couldn't), Dana and I got to meet Ben's band. Apparently they are very popular in their niche of the music world, and must practice a lot. So we met up with his band (and one of the member's girlfriends, who also is in a band, and I'm really dying to hear her music because her description sounds really interesting) and from there we went into Capitol Hill so they could go to their studio and they could practice. The studio, it turns out, its inbewteen two bars, behind a locked door littered with old flyers, grafetti, and stickers. But once you enter down the very long and sharp flight of stairs your greeted by frosted glass that says "Underground Recording Studio". There ... read more

Yesterday I awoke to my cat staring very intently at my face and my brain registering that maybe, MAYBE I'd over slept my alarm clock. Which thankfully I hadn't. After eating something that I THINK was a breakfast I was driven to LAX (thats LA airport for those NOT from the states) and then put on the most AMAZING plane on this planet. Really. I entered the plane and lo and behold, it was NOT a plane, it was a LIMO. It had purple and blue over head lights, comfy, squishy chairs, and touch screen t.v.'s that allowed you to watch free tv. I was waiting for the fog machine, strobe lights, and disco ball to come down at any minute! but it didn't, which was only mildly disappointing. During the flight I (being myself) struck ... read more

Do you remember being a little kid and you know, KNOW your going somewhere really awesome the next morning that includes waking up early, going through the airport, getting on a plane, and then being cattle herded into another place? Well I'm experiencing that feeling myself at the moment! In 12 hours I will be sitting next to some one--hopefully who is NOT hugging themselves and muttering about how they will enslave the human race--in an airport awaiting my plane to come and transport me to....Washington! Seattle, to be more precise. I'm going to be meeting my friend Dana there, as we're taking separate planes (and yet they take off at the same time...hmm...), and then after helping Dana manhandle her very large suite case, will be waiting for her cousin to pick us up. After ... read more
