The heat is really starting to get to us, as it's now in the high 90s. It seems the further we go, the hotter it gets! (Just glad we have aircon in the car and loads of water in the boot) Bryce Canyon is our next national park. (Thank goodness we purchased the annual park pass, it has now paid for it's self and some..) This is the place for spectacular scenic views. We just loved the "hoodoos". Told you earlier that each of the National Parks, has something a bit different going for it. And it just gets better as we go along. It's definitely a place I'd reccomend to visit. Our next stop was Red Canyon with it's own "Hoodoos". And where Butch Cassidy once hid from a posse.... Yet, another must do.... ... read more

KELLEY AND DAVE’S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE The Big Trip West…Notes From the road: WEEK FOUR. Thursday, June 12, Zion. Our peaceful night in the campsite with flute compliment turned into a cold and windy early morning that, because of the buffeting winds, allowed me only 5 hours sleep. In addition, some flute enthusiast began playing their flute at sunrise. At 6am I went into the camp showers and heard other women grumbling about the noisy flutes and cold, howling wind that ended their sleep far too early. Apparently there were many flutists in the campsite and I later found out there was a weeklong series of Indian flute concerts culminating in a “Flute Extravaganza” this coming weekend. Our camping experience has not been the most ideal since we have yet to stay more than one night in ... read more

Bryce Canyon's orange cliffs are the first step in a fantastic geological staircase that spills down the Colorado Plateau; Zion stands at the middle part of the staircase and Grand Canyon makes the lowest part of it. What a trio! The intricate, ornate stone pillars known as hoodoos were left standing in this canyon after ancient rivers continuously removed layers of rock from the Table Cliffs. The famous towers, pinnacles and eerie statues also result from rain and frost erosion acting from the top of the rock. They are just amazing! Red Rocks Standing Like Men in a Bowl-Shaped Canyon. This is what the Paiute Indians called this place. Wow! What a spectacular site to rest your eyes on! Somebody remarked back in 1876 that this is "...the wildest and most wonderful scene that the eye ... read more

I had been disappointed to hear we wouldn’t be camping at Zion but I needn't have been so. We were at Kotachrome national park, which was attractive with more red rock formations. After breakfast we went to Bryce where we opted for any easier hiking option of the Navajo look combined with the Queens garden Trail. My guide book told us which end to start to have the easier hike out. We hiked down in to the amphitheatre and walked among the rock formations (Hoodoos). We stopped under the shelter of a tree for lunch. Many of the other people on the bus who didn't know about my guide book’s suggestions then passed us going the other way! After hiking back out again we then walked around the rim for a little too. We ate dinner ... read more

Freitag, 16. Brittany's Freund war während ... read more

Glen Canyon After the Grand Canyon we headed to Page, Arizona, which was to be our base for seeing Lake Powell in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. I find it amazing to look at such a beautiful lake and imagine the canyon that has been submerged. Water is a valuable resource in this area. The dam provides for a more even supply of water throughout the year to the areas surrounding it and downstream. Lake Powell is a big water recreation area. I was surprised at the number of house boats that were docked, it was like small cities! Zion The road into the canyon required us to disconnect the car from the RV. We had to pay an extra fee due to the size of the RV needing an “escort” through the tunnel. Actually ... read more

An early start on the road got us on our way to Bryce Canyon. More motorways and winding roads took us the 170 miles into the National Park through mountains and snow drifts and fir tree lined forests. The lodge was just inside the park and we settled down to eat an all you can eat buffet for supper and double whipped ice creams with assorted toppings, just up the boys street. There is always hope that they wont be too hungry later, it seems to be a constant cry! Tristan and Seb even managed some washing in the laundry whilst I had a snooze! Up early the next morning and off to the Canyon with a beautiful clear sky despite a crisp ness in the air. We were completely taken a back by what we ... read more

I search about "Bryce Canyon". Taking plain from L.A to Panguitch we could see many mountains canyon and a lot of peaks. My plan is hiking through Panguitch to capitol Reef. Walking the road first we could go and see canyon's. And winter will be much fun to see animals, trees, spectacle canyon's. It's like the Grand canyon. The good thing of going canyon biking the roads will be much fun to some of peoples. Like motor cycles. And also we could borrow a horse to have fun and have an good experience. I think riding a horse will be best trip in bryce canyon. But there are something bad things about it. First, it's very dangerous to climb or hikinf the roads in winter. The roads are very slip and some of people slip down ... read more

What an amazing day today! Bryce Canyon is absolutely amazing, and we are both so very glad we decided to make this small detour. I've had to refrain from posting many many pics, so as to not overwhelm the site. We started today with a 2 hour drive down to Bryce. Once here, we did a small hike outside of the boundaries of the park, so little Tucker could be included. Following the small hike, we checked in to Ruby's Inn (great place!), and unhooked the car from the truck. Then we headed out to explore the canyon. We saw Bryce Point, Sunset Point (from which we did the Navajo Loop hike), and Inspiration Point, along with the Natural Bridge. So beautiful! Tomorrow is Easter Sunday, and we plan to get up early to attend a ... read more

Our second stop on our tour of National Parks was at Bryce Canyon National Park. At this time of year the weather is still very cold at this elevation (8,000-9,000ft.) so many of the good hikes were not open. But we did the Navajo loop that I would highly recommend. Bryce is full of rock formations called Hoodoos. One of the most famous is Thor's Hammer and you can get a much better view of the Hammer by walking down on the Navajo loop. You can walk through Wall Street, a nice slot canyon.... read more
