Day 15 -- Bryce Canyon After about a 2 hour drive from Zion to Bryce National Park, we settled in at Ruby's Campground and hopped on the shuttle into the park. We were running a little late because Chris had to do one last thing before we left the RV - a trait that while possiblely genetic does not make it any less frustrating to the rest of the family. Luckily after lunch in the Bryce Lodge (taco bar) everyone was in a better mood and we got to the corral and got our steeds. This time all four of us were going riding. We all got mules. Alea rode Tanya, Chris rode Tony, Ben rode Chubby and Lisa rode Janya. This was a wonderful ride in terms of what we got to see. We ... read more

I said in our last post that Tuesday would be a marathon day on the road, and boy, was it ever! We were up early once again, this time to head off to Bryce Canyon National Park in southern Utah. The visitor center greeter recommended we take the more scenic route through Cedar Breaks instead of using Highway 20, which normally is a little quicker. Apparently the fires further north were causing some traffic to be rerouted onto 20, leading to possible slow-downs. By then our stomachs were calling, so we stopped at a Cracker Barrel, where we also realized we had lost an hour due to the time change. We were quickly getting behind schedule, but Cedar Breaks National Monument enticed us into making stop anyway. We were at an elevation of about 10,000 ... read more

For those looking for the english version: Just scroll down a little. ... read more

Day 27 – Saturday – Hurricane, Utah Well after such a late night we all agreed to having a nice lie in this morning before heading off to see Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park (this time in the day light!). Dean & I have to admit that after yesterday's effort and seeing 3 Grand Canyon rims in one day that we weren't completely invested in seeing two more national parks....silly us! We had a great day!!! So first it was off to Bryce Canyon (ANOTHER whole in the ground hahah). But on our way we made an emegency stop as we found a patch of snow hahaha. Who knew - still snow on the ground here in May, almost June and when the weather outside is fairly warm. When we got to Bryce it ... read more

"The Grand Circle" is the circle of national parks in Northern Arizona, Southern Utah and Southwestern Colorado. They're Mesa Verde, Arches, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, Zion, and the Grand Canyon. And now, we've officially been to all of them! We started at Bryce Canyon after Capitol Reef (complete with Paul's Aussie Hat). Bryce is beautiful because of the look of its rock features (sorry, no big geology lesson this time). This one was carved out by water, and is still being eroded by water in the winter. That means that all of the rocky spires, called HOODOOS! (isn't that fun? Hoodoo Hoodoo Hoodoo...:)), look a lot like coral. In fact, if it weren't so hot, you could kind of imagine that you were underwater when you walk among the hoodoos down in the canyon. On the ... read more

new hot springs, old roads, some magic North America » United States » Utah » Bryce Canyon By pulamaMay 11th 2007Lisa Bartoletti HI Friends, At this moment I am somewhere below Provo Utah and wondering if I should head back to Arizona (woops, I missed Canyon de Chelley), the heady warmth of the desert sounds great. Utah has so far been sweet, but really cold at night. I spent much of the time at Bryce National Park, had my first campfire--very grounding esp. after the Conference in Sedona. Letting it all settle and feeling some shifts inside of me. I'm thankful for ... read more

Men tro mig, "huset" vinder altid. Nå, men som sagt, så kom vi vældig hurtigt afsted - vi havde booket en tur på hesteryg i Bryce Canyon kl.13.30 og efter Ole's mening, ... read more

Distance: 4 miles Rating: easy-difficult (final climb out of amphitheater) The term "other-worldly" gets tossed around a lot. I for one am guilty of having used it several times to describe some of the more unique hikes I've been on. However, I have now found a place that truly fits the other-worldly designation. As I look back at the pictures from my visit to Bryce Canyon National Park, I am still absolutely in awe of the place. I can honestly say that I've never seen anything like it! Thousands upon thousands of stone pillars run from the rim out to the horizon, conjuring images of alien forests or cities. Even more stunning is the variety of color seen in the layers of rock that have settled over time. While orange and brown dominate the landscape, closer ... read more

13/04/07 - 14/04/07 A Dash of Utah As we’d stopped at Zabriskie Point in Death Valley, an English woman we met told us that sunrise at Bryce Canyon was so beautiful that it had made her weep. Leaving Las Vegas, it was a slight detour North and would take us into an extra State where the book of Mormon, not the Gilead Bible makes bedside reading - Utah. To cause as much confusion as possible, seemed to be the goal of whoever named the viewpoints in Bryce Canyon National Park. The best place to watch sunset is at Sunrise Point and the best place to watch sunrise is at Bryce Point and Sunset point is no good for either or was it that the best place to watch sunrise is at Bryce point and the best ... read more

Well today we hit the wonder of Bryce and the 'hoodoos'. I remember as a child thinking that the rock towers looked liked people's faces, and this impression still sticks after visiting the park today. It has to be one of the most beautiful places I have visited, and I even bought a poster (and sadly a geological cross-section poster too!). Alex and I spent ages sitting overlooking the 'amphitheater', he drawing and me writing my journal. It was lovely and warm in the sun, and so peaceful. We only saw 2 other people the whole time. The colours are wonderful, especially with the snow caps. I wont bore you with an entire account of what I thought, but lets just say we loved it, and I'm so glad to have some back. On an entirely ... read more
