Hi Everyone, I know I have been updating this journal every day (hopefully you're not getting sick of reading them) but everyday there is just something so beautiful. Yesterday we spent the day in Bryce Canyon National Park and Zion National Park. They are both in southern utah about 30 minutes from each other so we spent half a day in each. Bryce Canyon was so much more beautiful than I thought. The Canyon was so vast and colorful. The rocks were bright orange, red, yellow, with a backdrop of lush green trees and snow capped mountains. Our first stop was the Bryce Amphithreatre that included Inspiration, Sunset, and Sunrise Point. While we were there a thunder and lighting storm was off in the distance. YOu could actually see the lighting strikes down into the canyon. ... read more

No, Pat, we didn't get lost. I was just too tired to write anything this night and the gol-danged internet connection didn't work in our room. May 18 - Day 4 - Las Vegas, Zion, Bryce Cyn The drive on I15 going east from Vegas is nothing but straight road for miles and miles. The only things to look at are the mountains far to the east that we will get to in good time. It doesn't take long to leave Vegas and its suburbs since most of Vegas has grown towards the south. We won't hear a word from the GPS lady for over a hundred miles. Within 15 minutes we are in the desert again, cruise control set at 80 and not much traffic at 9am this morning. After about one hour we stop ... read more

To get to Utah from the Grand Canyon South Rim you must go east about 35 miles and then north a hundred miles or so to the first bridge over the Colorado river at Marble Canyon AZ. From there its west over to Fredonia and north into Utah. We moseyed (sp?) up US 89 to the Hitching Post Campground in Panguitch, UT. Panguitch is a neat little cowboy town and is the gateway to Bryce Canyon. A local wrangler told us about a butcher shop where we bought some great ribeye steaks for the grill. It's about a 60 mile round trip from Panguitch to the end of Bryce Canyon, and is also a pretty good climb up to 10,000 feet. The canyon consists of several "amphitheaters" cut into the limestone along the eastern edge of ... read more

... read more

I’m retroactively blogging a trip my brother and I took around to some of the National Parks in the US in August of 2005. I wanted to put some information out about these amazing places, as they are, in my opinion, the highlights of the US. We made it to Bryce Canyon and, after being in the sweltering heat of Zion National Park; we appreciated the higher altitude and cooler temperature (at night at least) in Bryce Canyon. We spent the first day getting acquainted with the park, and just driving through the area. It is an extremely small park, but it is simply an amazing geological feature. The cliffs are a neon orange cream color with cylindrical spires, called hoodoos, jettisoning out from them. After settling on a campsite, we decided to do a quick ... read more

What a glorious place! Despite the fact that we arrived with the rain, this is one amazing place. We hiked to Queen's Garden in nearly pouring rain but still were impressed by the beauty! This park is filled with hoodoos, which are unique formations of the rock from years of water and wind. The Paoute indians refused to stay here because they thought the Hoodoos were bad people who had been frozen in stone. Sadly, due to clouds, no stars... The next morning the Schanz gang and Ryan took a horseback ride to the bottom of the canyon and back. Bud, Linda's horse, loved walking ON the edge of the trail and Jenae, Ryan's horse, loved to try to reach the plants that were over the edge to eat. Dave's horse, Jesse, should have been called ... read more

Hey All Will try and pick up where I left off... Went to Chicago after living the 'Windy City' of Cleveland. When you arrive in Chicago you can't help but notice that the skyline is massive and you get the impression that it is bigger than New York but they tell me that Chicago is the 3rd largest city in the US so it clearly isn't bigger, just seems so. There is a nice beach tehre and very interesting architecture on the buildings. It's a city that would be easy to live in. Went for a look along the 'Magnificent Mile' shopping street but managed to resist buying anything. Went to the top of the John Hancock tower which is 100 sotries high and had a look at the viewing platform which gives an excellent view ... read more

After leaving Zion National Park, we arrrived at Bryce Canyon in the afternoon. We quickly found a camping space and set out to explore the park before the sun set. First we walked over to the Amphitheatre at Inspiration Point to check out the amazing views, and then headed down into the Canyon along Wallstreet and Navajo Loop Trail. There is nothing that compares to the view from down inside the canyon among the hoodoos. We were stopping to take pictures every few feet. The colors at that time of day were unbelievable and I am sure the photos don't do them justice. We traveled the short loop through the canyon and came back up on the Thor's Hammer side. The sun was starting to leave the area so our photo opportunities were fading quickly. Once ... read more

Lesser known than the Grand Canyon but equally impressive, Bryce Canyon lies in southern Utah. We drove out to Bryce Canyon from Las Vegas, about 4 hrs, we passed through Zion National Park. Bryce Canyon was the maddest place, huge numbers of rock pillars rise up from the valley floor in shades of red, orange and brown, about 300 ft tall. Truly one of the most impressive natural spectacles I've yet to see. I walked for only a few miles within the canyon, along "Navaho Walk", watched the sunset, and then headed out to look for a cheap motel.... read more
