I drove today from Memphis to Kansas City it was really tough leaving and I'm not to prideful to admit I cried more than a bit. But once I got on the road it sort of all swept away. I slipped out of Tennessee to Arkansas Crossing the Mississippi. And on up into Missouri. I saw a crop dusting plane swoop down over the interstate and then spray a near by field it then went back over the road and turned away and to the left and sped off behing me for another pass. It was really one of the coolest things ive ever randomly seen on the road especially in MO. The arch was cool there are these little capsules you sit in that I'm sure looked really futuristic in 62 when it was made ... read more

Today we toured the city. First stop was the Liberty Memorial Museum, it's the only public museum in the U.S. dedicated to WWI. In our opinion one of the most impressive museums we've experienced. Next up was 18th & Vine jazz district, and then country club plaza which claims to be the first suburban shopping district in the nation. The day would not be complete without sinking our teeth into the tangy, spicy, sweet and smoky goodness of world-class Kansas City barbecue. We tried Arthur Bryant's, the oldest barbecue joint in KC, the meat fell off the bone. McCain also sunk his teeth into this deliciousness on Sunday night. 0 miles traveled.... read more

Last night we experienced a good Mid-West thunder storm. The thunder was rattling the windows all night and needless to say we did not sleep to well. This didn't help the drive at all since today was when we braved the trek across Kansas. Flat and not a lot to see, for a long time. We stopped in Abilene to visit the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum. Ike's Museum was a nice break from the road, and it smells like cookies in Abilene thanks to the flour plant. We had lunch at the Historic Kirby House, great soups. After lunch it was on to Kansas City Miszoura. We walked around Union Station and finished the day with a gigantic Kansas City barbecue dinner at Jack Stack. 377 miles of travel in the day. 1,747 ... read more

My first travel blog..though not technically traveling yet I still feel the need to start this now. Geo: 39.0997, -94.5786Quebec, Canada ~ Pre-trip In celebration of my college graduation (because it took me so long to finally finish)... we enjoyed a week long trip to Quebec, Canada where this beautiful and amazing French city was celebrating their 400th Anniversary! It was a fantastic trip that I would repeat in a heartbeat! Today we drove to Kansas City to meet our early flight the next morning. On the way to Kansas City is was 108 degrees according to the car thermometer! You could practically see the heat ahead on the highway.... read more

The drive from Rapid City to Sioux Falls, SD was very interesting but long. We were amazed to see how much of the country is volcanic. The Yellowstone super-volcano comprises nearly all the park but its last eruption spewed ash, rocks and lava over many neighboring states. This was no surprise but to see how volcanic forces have been at worked underneath so much of the west was astounding. From the time we left Portland (where the Cascades are all volcanoes) to near Sioux Falls we were crossing terrain clearly disrupted by volcanic forces. Making it to Sioux Falls just after dark, we were pleased to find our camp, a pretty KOA right off the interstate. Easy in, easy out. Starting out early we hit the road for Kansas City. Lots more rolling farmland was the ... read more

Kansas City, Missouri was host to the 2008 EcoQuest Convention this week. Donna and I spent one day in training and three days networking, studying, etc. This morning we left for Rapid City, South Dakota. KCMO was a really pleasant town with little traffic that welcomed pedestrian exploration. KC is known for its barbecue and its steaks. A group of friends joined us at The Majestic Restaurant for dinner one evening to enjoy steaks. The food was really very good; the service was mediocore, and the staff attitude was horrible. ... read more
