luke here, I neglected to sign my most recent instalment and in the event my biscuits and gravy discourse draws a vehement reaction from TEABAG (The Established Association of Biscuits and Gravy) then it's only fair and reasonable I take the backlash. I'm figuring my supporters, however, although silent at present, are many and varied and are simply waiting to "snap", and take up arms at breakfast eateries throughout the US. We had another great day roaming around Platte County. The quintet visited a bona fide, lock'em-up, fair-dinkum prison. It looked just like a bought one. As the evening wore on, news of my biscuit-slurry campaign reached local ears and I found myself yearning for the comforts of home. It wasn't so much the safety of my mother's arms which tugged at the heartstrings, it was ... read more

I think, (said with one eyebrow cocked and an obvious degree of skepticism on my face), this will work. Being something of a rookie in Blogburg, USA, I'll keep this short and to the point. I wish to say very little, but before I do even that, I will qualify the following statement with these few short sentiments: Kansas City is pretty, I mean really pretty. Think Shirley Temple with bricks. It is a gorgeous downtown vista. Where red bricks fail, sandy stone steps in and gives us grand monuments such as City Hall, The Liberty Memorial, and Union Station. Bartle Hall is a boomer, as is the Federal Court House, and the two professional sports stadiums which play home to the much-loved Chiefs, and the ... uh, Royals. It's a neat place, full of neat ... read more

As our first week comes to an end, we reflect on what an interesting and enjoyable time we have been having. Everyone has been very welcoming and friendly. Its like we are celebrities, everyone wants to met and talk with us. Since we last wrote, we have done a great deal. Thursday morning we spent some free time exploring the beauty of the Country Club Plaza, a shopping centre designed with Seville in mind. Spring time has brought lots of beautiful red bud tree blossoms, colourful tulips line the street, and lets not forget the abundance of fountains. We attended a rotary meeting at Club 13, the 13th rotary club ever to be established and one of the biggest with about 400 members. The guest speaker was a local football star, a 'snapper'. very interesting and ... read more

Today we flew from LA via Denver to Kansas City. Almost missed the flight due to poor queue selection at LAX. Security was tight...it turns out it's harder to get OUT of LA than it is to get IN! As a contrast to yesterday (which was about 44 hours long), today seemed to fly by (ha!). we lost 3 hours during flights. We spent a full hour exploring Denver (airport), where we found the tornado shelters (which double as the public toilets). Mary had McDonalds, which was delicious. Luke and Nik had enormous burritos, which were great. Arrived in Kansas City at 6pm, and recieved a very warm welcome. It was great to put faces to names. Our accomodation at the Sheraton Country Club Plaza is superb. As the photo shows, the beds are BIG, but ... read more

I spent the weekend in the Midwest - Kansas & St Joseph, Missouri with some family friends / distant in-laws. My welcome into the city was somewhat unorthodox. My suitcase missed the flight (although I managed to make it on time...). So on my first night I all I had were my clothes on my back, my trusty camera & wallet. Chi-chi kindly took me to Walmart so I could by some underwear, and preserve some sort of dignity. Praise God the suitcase turned up on Saturday arvo... missing some handles. Aunty Ngozi & Uncle Immanuel made sure that I felt really comfortable in spite of this odd situation. :o) The weather was really cold, but nothing like a NZ cold though. It felt really crisp and clear. Yesterday it even started to snow a little ... read more
