Kind of slept in. More than was planned, but not as long as I would have liked. An early phone call from The Irishman was not what I was hoping. He needed something from my room, and I asked him to “see about breakfast” on his way. When he got here, informed me that there was in fact breakfast, but he would not be bringing me any. Good try, though. Sarah and I worked out, and Anne even joined us. Felt good. Although, I’m a bit sore. We went to a pool hall for lunch and some games. Was fun. My first game of 9-ball was against Sarah, and I was potting them like it was my job. Not even really paying attention to anything. Kyle and I got a bunch of work done today, too. ... read more

Kyle has malaria. We’re doing a show in a retirement community. Roofers will be installing a new roof on the venue. And we’re doing a fire drill in the middle. Sounds like a bad April Fool’s joke, doesn’t it? Welcome to my day. I woke up and headed to the lobby, all excited to do a show (finally!) and saw Kyle on the couch. He looked sick. Really sick. We left in the truck and he explained that he didn’t sleep most of the night; up puking. He thought it was malaria. (He got it a few years ago in Uganda and said it comes back every several months.) Puking, fevers, chills, overall feeling-gross-ness. This is how bad a friend I am: When I saw he was sick, my first thought was “Crap! I was in ... read more

Welcome to Kansas City! I didn't have internet for a while in Miami so I couldn't keep everything updated. I took a lot of pictures, but then I realized that I didn't have the wire to connect the camera to the computer (I'll just show them once I come back). I just flew from Miami to Kansas City (the tropical paradise to the freezing snow). Both of these cities are VERY different, but both have their pros and cons. I hung out on the K.C. plaza tonight; it was pretty fun. The rest of the weekend will most likely be spent starting and finishing my homework... arg. Anyway, I hope everything is going well back in the homeland, and I will check ya'll laterrr.... peace out.... read more

Having grown up in the Midwest and lived there for almost all of my life it is kind of surprising that there are still places like Kansas City, that I had never visited. So, when the chance came along for me to take a weekend trip to Kansas City I jumped at the chance. While I was in Kansas City I stayed at my friend Brad's house, which was currently undergoing renovations. This meant one working bathroom for 6 people. It was all good anyway as we really didn't spend that much time sitting around the house. Instead we visited the National World War I Memorial, walked around the local shopping district, got some great barbecue (which was actually served in a restaurant connected to a gas station), and spent a lot of time in bars ... read more

Obfuscator writes: When we woke up in the morning at whatever State Park we had found ourselves mired in (Ed. Note: Finger Lake State Park, as it turns out), we were again confronted with the minor debacle that had occurred under the cover of darkness. After 8:00, when we knew the park office opened, we waited around a bit to see if a kindly ranger would find us and take pity on us while doing rounds. We busted out the laptop and watched some Star Trek to kill a bit of time, but after an episode with no ranger in sight, we figured it was time to start the calls. First we called the park office, hoping for a cheap and simple fix. A sure sign of the times, the main reason the park office refused ... read more

Well, it is officially October 26 and in about 7 hours I will be heading off to Atlanta and then to Korea. Man, has it been a crazy week. I went to California last week and it was fun. We stayed about an hour and a half outside of San Francisco in a town called Salinas. It was something else. To be honest, I felt like I was in Mexico. But it was cute and fun. I was craving tacos (you know the real Mexican tacos) so we went to a Taquería. Amy's friend ordered and had us try a few different kinds and aftering trying them we came to find that we tried cow's head, tongue, intestine and some other body part that I have never tried before. And to my surprise, it was actually ... read more

I got my plane ticket yesterday from my recruiter and my visa arrived this afternoon. It's official, I am going to Korea on October 26. I can't believe it. I can't believe that I've been in Kansas City for almost two months. It's gone by way too fast. A few days ago, I kind of freaked out while I was talking to my parents. I guess it just hit me that I was really going to Korea...for a whole year! I started to pack yesterday and got really excited. I got a new camera. It's pretty sweet. My sister, Sharon, came to visit me last weekend. It was suppose to be a surprise, but I ruined it. It was good to see her. I don't think she knows this but I'm going to miss her a ... read more

Well, let's see. Where should I begin? I think most of you know that I quit my job on (kind of) a whim last month. Over Labor Day weekend, I moved home to Kansas City and have been bumming around my parents house for the last month. It's been nice taking a break from work and not having any real responsibilities. In the past month I went to Florida and learned some lessons, hosted some friends at my parents, met up with high school friends that I haven't seen in 5 years and got a job to teach English in South Korea. When I quit my job I had the idea of going to Korea for the next year to teach and now it's finally here. I thought this would be the best way to keep ... read more

I had a great week with Debbie, Bobby and family. We swam a lot and played a lot of games! Bev came through for the long weekend; it was of course great to see her too. Bobby’s folks came through on Saturday and we all enjoyed a shrimp and crab boil. Madisonville is located on the Tchefuncte River which feeds into Lake Pontchartrain; on Sunday we took the kids down to watch the boats and have an ice cream. I flew back to Kansas City on Wednesday. Kansas City really is a nice city. Just big enough to still feel friendly, they are really proud of their reputation for providing the world’s best barbecue. The Kiowa and Cheyenne Indians were the first human inhabitants of this area. Of course there is lots of cowboy history in ... read more

Saturday. Florida to Missouri. Tony's adventure actually began over a week ago when he drove to Kansas City to meet up with his friends and then take off to go camping and kayaking in the Ozarks. For the record, he had a good time... except for when the door of the rental SUV, which is much heavier than, say, a door on a Mini Cooper, closed on him unexpectedly and he ended up with a gash in his cheek. Were stitches needed? Probably... Were stitches gotten? No way, there was kayaking to be done! My adventure began with a flight out to Kansas City to meet up with Tony and meet his friends before the road-tripping started. The day was long, as flying days usually are. Tony and his friends picked me up at the airport ... read more
