John: Melissa and Amy finally talked it out and everybody seems to be enjoying the trip. Jason feeds the horses every time we make a stop. He really must love those horses to have time to feed them in the unbearable cold. Jennifer is spending a lot of time writing in her journal about the history she learned. The guide has been very quiet throughout the whole trip, it’s almost as if he wasn’t there. I kind of enjoy it though, it feels more personal. Melissa has also been very happy about Amy’s change in attitude. She seems calmer and nicer than usual, which isn’t like her. I think that having no choice but to spend time with family changed her.... read more

Well it was a bone-chilling, nose-hair-freezing -3 degrees when we left the condo at 10:30 this morning. We made breakfast out of whatever groceries we had yet to consume since we had no way to pack home anything refrigerated. After we started the dryer and the dishwasher we were all ready to head out. We needed gas but decided to wait since te conversion rate made gas about $7/gal. We did go back to the Platzl and get some goods from the bakery, which was totally worth it! Two hours later we crossed the border. The border guard was funny...he asked one of the cars if they were carrying any thermonuclear warheads. We stopped in Bonners Ferry to exchange what was left of our currency and the rare had gone down from 75% to 69%. After ... read more

Stopped to get some food, use the bathroom, and exchange our American currency for Canadian. The teller was funny..."Someone told me that it smells like maple syrup but every time I say that to a Canadian they laugh. I'm not sure if it's a running joke or what." The money is different...it feels like flimsy plastic and is bright & colorful, like Monopoly money. We are currently about 60 miles from the border and I keep finding myself obsessively checking and rechecking my bag for my passport. I know that it will be there but I keep looking anyway. ? I packed food so I wouldn't need to get any on the way...so once everyone else finishes their sandwiches we will once again be underway!... read more

I'm so excited to have the opportunity to travel outside of the country, even if it is to the Frozen North ?❄️ But with that comes all of the anxieties of traveling. What to take & what to leave behind? Clean the house from top to bottom or just a quick once-over? At what setting should I leave my thermostat while I'm gone? Do I have all I will need or did I miss some crucial item/detail that will leave me helpless when the situation comes and I'm not prepared but everyone is counting on me to be prepared but I'm not so now everyone is disappointed & we all die? You know, little stuff like that. So while I agonize over the pre-travel anxieties I just want to share one piece of friendly advice from ... read more

…began with breakfast at McDonald’s. At least they were open when their hours said they’d be. On the road once more, our goal today was Cataldo, Idaho and the RV campground we frequent. Cataldo isn't on the list of Idaho cities in TravelBlog so I had to go with Kellogg...11 miles away. Montana is beautiful country, even through the smoke of all the forest fires. As we drove out of Montana and into Idaho I started out the window at the passing landscape. Whenever we passed water I always imagined paddling my kayak around it no matter how big or small the body of water. We passed a small pond with six or eight little islands scattered throughout it. My imagination took off. When we downsize the house we should get a smaller house on 2 ... read more

Wanderlust: a strong desire to travel or wander. Unknown quote --- "People always ask me "why travel?" and my answer has always been the same... I travel because I don't want life to escape me, I travel to find myself, reinvent myself and to know myself. I travel for those moments that take my breath away and make me feel happy to be alive. I travel for the peace, simplicity and joy it brings to my life. I travel for the unknown but most importantly, I travel because life is a gift and I don't intend on wasting it." Check out my adventures in the link below :) Enjoy! https://vimeo.com/135494170 ... read more

Wild horses-Rolling Stones (or Krajcik) It annoys me that every time someone asks me about my practice and beliefs I get all uncomfortable and try to justify myself. It seems that I am ashamed of those things, but why? They make me, me! They might be wrong or stupid, but fine, I’ll learn why and become a better person! Beliefs are born from our cultural background, personal values and things we learn through time. The people surrounding you that you trust will influence you and share beliefs with you. Either it is a cultural thing in your area our something your intellectual neighbour told you, the idea now as a place in your head. You will then question the reason behind this with your own set of values; does it make sense? Is there any proof ... read more

Cologne-Clean Bandit "'That's right' said the Intelligent Man. 'Unless someone can do something about it'" The Great Divorce I am not brave. Most people when I tell them I am traveling alone, by bike in an unknown countr, just assume that I am fearless and wonder what my mom thinks about what I am doing. She’s fine with it, even happy that I seem to enjoy what I am doing for once. I think she is supportive, but I will have to ask her to be sure. But, oh, most of all no, I am not fearless. In fact I am one of the most easily scared person that I know. I am afraid of cars. Frightened of open water. Scared of kids. Petrified of commitment. Panicking at the idea of speaking in front of a ... read more

Roy's question, to be precise: ' I don't understand why anyone would want to come here, in the middle of a semi-desert and work on barbwire and fences for free, it doesn't make any sense to me.' Alright it's more of an affirmation than a question, but still. Why volunteering, why this instead of a paying job in an environment that you know?I've had similar question about my lifestyle and other aspect of my personality, but here's the deal: I work on feelings and intuition. Yes I do reflect on my action before I actually act, but I don't have it all written down and I am, and have always been, really bad at communication. Every time I try to explain something that just feels right for me, it stops making sens at this exact moment. ... read more
