Miami Beach We arrived in Miami airport at about 7am. We got to immigration and it took us forever to get through!! About an hour and a half. Zo got hit on by the old immigration official!! We got out bags, which had been taken off the carousel because we had been so long! We were ready for a bit of sun and luxury to finish off what had be a fantastic 6 months. It was pouring with rain, so much so our taxi driver could hardly see where he was going. We arrived at the Miami Beach Resort and Spa, ready to be welcomed and there was nobody there to help. We has asked for an early check in but when we got to the desk the unhelpful guy told us their computers were ... read more

Well here we are day one! Firstly thanks to all my friends and family who have supported me in planning my travels, in particular Dee for her support throughout, marky metcalfe for the hours of entertainment and the shed project and nigel helping with the extractor fan project lol. As well as anyone looking after stuff for me! Arrived safely at Miami, heard from a fellow passenger that Honduras has just gone through a political coup! watch out for men with guns! Got to my hotel to find two doors up from a rstaraunt i ate at with my parents in the eighties! Walked up South Beach (took an hour to find!) the beach is massive and found out chatting to a beach man that the superbowl is being played here next weekend and loads of ... read more

Saturday 12th December, 2009 to Thursday January 14th, 2010 My second Christmas Stateside pretty much as expected came and went in the blink of an eye, a series of celebrations in the form of various Belmont Shore parades and parties preceded a very enjoyable Christmas Day which commenced with a now traditional early morning cobweb freeing run on the beach, continued with presents with the Kirby's, several Skyped conversations to loved ones back home, a steak dinner and an hour or so in the pub and culminated in wine with neighbours on the balcony. The following morning, struggling to remember what a holiday, Christmas or otherwise actually felt like I loaded the winter woollies into the car and with Phil and the girls hit the road North, destination Mammoth Mountain. Managing my personal finances since my ... read more

Hi gang, Day 1 on my way to Bequia. I flew into Ft Lauderdale, then took a shuttle to South Beach. My hotel is a small old building that has been recently renovated. I think its very nice and only a block off the beach and right in the heart of South Beach action. I stubbled apon a great little hole in the wall for dinner tonight. It's called the Pizza Bar. And they had the most humungous pizzia's I've ever seen. It was a good 36-48 inches in diameter. One slice was about 18 inches. Everyone just sat at the bar and watched the guys make the pizzas. On two huge flat screen tv's they were showing the movie Braveheart. It was just a neet place to hang out . After dinner I walked all ... read more

Hi everyone! This our first entry is written from a surprisingly COLD Miami Beach! We arrived on the 8th, late at night, and it was still 21 degrees out which was lush but only the next day was it pouring down rain and the temperature had dropped several degrees. The next day we woke up with a start at 7 AM, completely jet lagged and completely unable to go back to sleep. That was about the time that our room mate stumbled in after a long night out. We went for a walk (in the rain, which was quite unpleasant) and saw the house where Versace lived and got shot on Ocean Drive. There aren't many touristic things to see on South Beach, the beach is the high light, and since it was raining we couldn't ... read more

A curious fact that we discovered about Miami is that every day in the summer rains at some point, usually between one e four o’clock in the afternoon. Today wasn’t different. But we get really lucky, because the day was wonderful when we went take a walk in the boardwalk. Flavio was expecting to see some topless women, since his father-in-law told him about his past “events”, but he saw only one (European, probably). We guess Miami is not the same anymore…... read more

I´m going to Miami, haba neba ami ami... Is how Miami - as immortalised by Will Smith - sounded to me, before I actually went there. In my imagination, and not uncoincidentally, in line with said hit song - Miami was a place where the sun is always shining, the skies don´t see rain and the people are unfalteringly beautiful. With the very slight exception of a small amount of rain (barely worth mentioning, were it not for the author´s interest in accuracy), my preconceptions were basically true. Travelling on the local bus through Miami´s famous South Beach, you can look out to see honed bodies, pampered pooches and busty cosmetically altered mannequins (if you can forgive the obviousness of such a statement), but unlike the typical caricatures so often connoted by LA´s Hollywood, these beautiful ... read more

Flying from Singapore to Hong Kong to San Francisco to Boston and then an hour drive to Kittery, Maine. Why in the world would I then fly to Miami? Well, first off, it's colder than &$*($(& here. Oh, I could go on and on about the blessing that I wasn't with Jeremy when he moved to Maine. Holy crap it's cold here. At any rate, I flew out to meet Jeremy and explore his cute little town of Kittery, Maine. Yes, it does have some redeeming qualities but it is insanely cold and I've been used to tropical weather for the past year. Talk about body shock... I had to dress up like a snowman every minute, I even wore my coat indoors at times. It was certainly a long transit to get there too. ... read more

Alright, it's time for the first update from abroad, I'm traveling with Rasmus Thisted, a very good friend of mine, whom you will for sure hear and see more of later on. A short summary from our trip from Denmark to Miami: It's 03:30 and I just woke up from my 1,5 hours of sleep, fortunately my mom loves me so much that she voluenteered to drive us to the trainstation in Aarhus. A quick status check before getting on the train; 2 x backpacks, 1 big for all my stuff, 1 small for trekking and such. Rasmus with the same, except to my enjoyable surprise he was wearing 2 different shoes, which he seemed to find very much less entertaining than I did. So all is good (Rasmus = :S), we try the best we ... read more
