Miami Beach We arrived in Miami airport at about 7am. We got to immigration and it took us forever to get through!! About an hour and a half. Zo got hit on by the old immigration official!! We got out bags, which had been taken off the carousel because we had been so long! We were ready for a bit of sun and luxury to finish off what had be a fantastic 6 months. It was pouring with rain, so much so our taxi driver could hardly see where he was going. We arrived at the Miami Beach Resort and Spa, ready to be welcomed and there was nobody there to help. We has asked for an early check in but when we got to the desk the unhelpful guy told us their computers were down. We sat in reception where a girl came and asked us if we had any weed!! We had arrived in Miami at the start of spring break, and it was full of young drunk Americans. We sat around until about 10am, when they told us we wouldn't be able to check in until 4pm!! It had hotted up and we took the 3
mile walk down the boardwalk to South Beach. It was a lovely walk and we took a stroll around town to see what was about. Had a drink and got a taxi back, about 1pm. They still didn't have a room available but told us it would be half hour. When we finally got into our room, it was amazing. We had a king size bed and I was in love with it - the first bed where my feet (and legs) don't hang off the end! We also had a partial sea view, which was lovely. We relaxed on our huge bed and had a couple of drinks from the mini bar - bad idea when we got the bill!! In the evening the weather had changed for the better and we took a walk back down the beach/boardwalk back to town. We walked past all the huge hotels, like the Ritz Carlton, where they were all having huge parties. Spring break had coincided with the Winter Music Conference, so all the best DJ's in the world were there. We would stop at these parties and watch from the outside because it was a ridiculous price to get in.
We took a walk down to see the Miami Ink tattoo shop (from the TV) and then stopped for a mexican dinner. There is a huge percentage of Spanish speakers in Miami, probably more than English speakers. We walked back after dinner, taking in all the parties and had the best night sleep ever in this huge bed with 6 pillows!
The weather was glorious today, so we went and sat by the pool to top up our tans! Had a few drinks and some lunch there but I went back to the room because I was having stomach issues. That evening we were going to walk to south beach for dinner but on the way we had to turn back, because I wasn't well enough. Zo ordered some room service and we watch TV, something we hadn't done in a long time.
After another great night sleep, belly still bad, we walked into town. We walked up Lincoln Avenue, which is where all the shops are and had a look around. Miami Beach is very pretentious, and we felt a bit out of place. It is full of rich beautiful people trying to better each other!! They
had a antiques market on, but it was more of a jumble sale. We walked back and got ready. Got a taxi over to Biscayne Bay to go to the Hard Rock cafe. Had a nice dinner and then sat at the bar having a few drinks, quite a lot actually. Had a wander around and got a taxi back.
It poured with rain all day and there is not much to do in Miami Beach if you don't have a car in the rain. We had lunch in the hotel restaurant and relaxed in our room. It was really nice to not have to do anything!! That night was our last supper. The oldies had treated us to a nice meal and we glammed it up for the night. We took a cab to a lovely restaurant on Ocean Drive, called Quinn's. We had a couple bottles of wine and the most beautiful meal. It was a sad evening because it was our last night, but a great way to finish.
We check out and got a taxi to Miami airport, well in advance of our flight. Got through security and went and had a few drinks
in a bar. Luckily Zo checked the screen again because our flight had moved to another gate, which was the other side of the terminal. We made it just in time for our flight to Chicago. When we got to Chicago, we had a few hours to kill, so what better way to do it then sit in another bar!! Zo managed to change our tickets to bulk head seats, so bit more room for my long legs and off we set back to England.
We arrived in shorts and t shirt at Heathrow and it was freezing!!! Mum had balloons, surprise surprise, and it was good to see everyone......... but also very sad to be home!!
We had the most amazing 6 months and cant believe how much we have seen. It was the best time of lives and we cant wait to get away and see more of the world.
Until next time....Tam Biet, Goodbye, see ya, ciao, tchau, bye.......
