Sorry we haven't updated for a while, our internet back in Orlando was absolutely crap and we hadn't done many interesting things anyway! Lol. Also, there were only a few pictures from today (Wednesday) so we'll upload them when we do a bigger photo upload to save time waiting for such a small amount of pictures. Sunday was our relaxing day, literally we did nothing but lay around our hotel room and pop out to grab a bite to eat when we were hungry. We decided not to do much aside from this as we knew that the following day we would be spending quite a lot of time on our feet as we had booked the shuttle bus to Busch Gardens. It worked out pretty well doing nothing anyway, since everytime we decide to take ... read more

First thing I did today was head to the beach. Even though the weather today wasn’t that great; it was windy and slightly rainy, however, the water was still perfectly fine, if not warmer than yesterday. Or at least it seemed so. It was my start to the day and I swam around for a bit. It was a little choppy so I didn’t go in too far, or stay in for too long. I then decided to take a bike ride around Miami Beach. There were stationed bikes available for hire, and I haven’t seen much of the city itself yet. So I took a ride around and took pictures wherever I decided to stop. I rode up and down Miami Beach for an hour. Shame the weather wasn’t that good, though at least it ... read more

Today I had my first swim of the trip. I had plans to meet up with Matt, as he had to check in today as well, but that didn't end up happening. He was tired from work and there was no free parking around here, so it was better for him to cancel at least one of the nights. And I decided I was going to go for a swim at the beach. It was literally a two minute walk from my hostel, so I was able to leave all my stuff inside. Can't really take my wallet and passport with me when I want to swim. The water was really warm. Much warmer than in my town in Australia. I stayed in the water for quite a bit, and I was able to cool down ... read more

A happy time is when I can make a return visit to my family and friends in Florida, especially during the cold winter months of Taizhou, Jiangsu. My young and curious Chinese students often ask me questions about Miami and Miami Beach; many have heard of the two cities, though they think of the two cities as one. They recognize Miami mostly because of their love for basketball, the NBA and the Miami Heat; and of course, their favorite players are Wade, James, and Bosh. Their faces light up, when they shout out the names of the Miami Heat stars to me. Unfortunately, Chinese students' knowledge of world geography, and for that matter their knowlege about the world outside of China is limited, if not minimal. Chinese education offers "somewhat" restricted and controlled information to its ... read more

We went on the Everglades Airboat tour today, While waiting for our tour bus, a police vehicle went past with flashing lights, followed by a movie crew filming a girl riding a motorcycle, sort of. The bike was attached to the film vehicle by a tow bar. On arrival at the Everglades we boarded an airboat, and were issued with earplugs. They are bloody noisy things. We saw some alligators in the wild, and took plenty of photos. Back at the dock we were given a show with one of the rangers hand feeding some rather large alligators, and explaining a few facts about them. They are protected, after almost being completely wiped out. There are now about 1.5 million 'gators in Florida. One of the big problems here is exotic wildlife being released into Greater ... read more

Managed to get through and went on HoHo bus this morning around South Beach Art Deco area, and then to Bayside. Some really beautiful buildings in South Beach. Took lots of photos.Took the City Tour afterwards, which went through Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, Little Havana and downtown Miami. Went past the Bayfront Sonesta in Coconut Grove where we stayed the last time we were here. Coral Gables is a very expensive and exclusive. Houses must only be painted certain colours, nothing garish. For Sale signs cannot be larger than 6" x 8", which makes it difficult to spot them. Went to Bayfront for lunch, and I had a water massage as my legs were aching a bit. Very relaxing. Went back to our hotel and had aswim and spa. The weather is in the 90s and ... read more

Back on the bus and heading for Miami. First stop, Kennedy Space Centre. Absolutely amazing to see how they got men to the moon. Spent four hours there, but could have used more. Traffic in Miami was chaotic, with diversions caused by a police incident with about a dozen police cars involved. Don't know the cause, but it was an experience. Dropped at our hotel about 7 pm. What a lovely surprise, upgraded to a beachview suite on the 3rd floor. Many thanks, Leanne. We had dinner at the restaurant downstairs, very nice, but pricier than we expected. We may have trouble with excursions as we have forgotten to confirm, and no response via telephone at this hour. Will try first thing in the morning. went for a walk along the sidewalk. Interesting being accosted by ... read more

Weekend in Miami staat blijkbaar gelijk ... read more

Goodday everyone, This will be the second and last blog from this trip. After a couple of days in Orlando we drove back to Miami where we stayed one night. We stayed at a Marriott hotel just at the parking lot of the Dolphin Mall; famous mall for those from Curaçao who go to Miami to shop. The mall is very big and we strolled around the mall. I didn’t buy anything though, just food and some creams I had to buy for someone. In Miami we also met with the rest of the group from Curaçao and Bonaire making it a total of more than 60 persons. The next day the buses came and picked us up and we went to the harbour where the cruise-ships dock. After a long line for security and check-in, ... read more
